Anime video format for 2018

(You) made Nyaa.si happen, now let's guide our anime masters to better video quality.

Proposal A pic related.

>VP9
why not just wait for AV-1?

/thread and fpbp

you might as well use h265 until av-1 is ready if you're going to use a video format with poor hw support

>VP9
no

why are animuguufags so hellbent on keeping their encodes non-compliant to any hardware-decoding-support?
10bit h264, 12bit h265, av1...

It's 2018 and anime is still being ripped in 720p x264 with 2 channel audio.

Streaming is already ubiquitous if you dont care about quality.

If storage is an issue, you have to be full retard to choose a larger 720p 264 file over a smaller 1080p 265

The only one who knows what the fuck they are doing is bonkai77

Compare bonkais 6gig Fate/Zero release with Coalgirls bloated 66gig monstrosity that somehow looks worse.

Because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Meant

>1080p h265
nice upscale nigger. forgot your 10 bit for extra memes.

why be so impatient? av-1 is going to need alot of refinements and retranscoding results in degradation of quality. Just wait for av-2

WTF is "ass" and how is it better than SRT?

Substation alpha. It can do more than just show text at time. Positioning, animation, etc.

Yeah, who would want DVD, its not even compliant with VHS.

AV1 is sponsored by literally all the industry with the sole exception of Apple, there will be hardware decoders within months of the bitstream freeze

1.2gb 1080p HSrip of Houseki no Kuni episode can be re encoded to 200mb HEVC without quality lost because video is this bitrate starved so there is no hope for better video quality especially with retards like this .

AV1 should be better than HEVC and H.266 is only now being formed so unlikely to be ready until 2025.

Why isn't scene adopting MXF? It can do and store practically anything.

I wasnt talking about hevc. I said that instead of using av1 which is right around the corner he should wait for av2 so that he gets better bang for his degraded transcode buck.

>VP-9
>Not H264 or 265

Are the new encoders actually more efficient than x264 at this point?

Container: WebM
Video: AV1
Audio: Opus
Subtitles: WebVTT

Anime = Autism

They have been for a long time.

Wrong.

>2018
If AV1 is released stable in 2018, sure.

Someone is newfag.

It's a mystery. Sup Forums blames Daiz a lot when I dropped this thread there two week ago.

MKV is one of those rare actually "good enough" formats. I don't see any reason to use something else.

Right, you read correctly, congrats.

They don't care that your shitty toy can't do proper playback.

Will there ever be a decent release of initial D? Everything apart of season one is litterally vhs rips i swear to god

why don't we already have a lossless vector based video format? compression and scaling would be superior to existing codecs for animations

>why don't we already have a lossless vector based video format?
it's called swf

HEVC is best. Also has best free encoder (x265). Has a ton of hardware support too.

Opus is a meme that can't even do 44.1khz. All your audio is literally re-transcoded to 48khz. GTFO here with that.

There are DVD rips for every stage. Season 1 has vastly superior art to the other early ones though.

Opus can also screw with sub timings in mkv.

I started watching dubed and decided to keep going, not at statge 4 i think, i cant find any dub torrent, best i found was funimation.com laggy stream that i cant even cast to my tv and have to use vpn and anime9.tv or whatever watermarked stream on kodi

>WebVTT

No way, phoneposter. You're getting ASS and there's nothing you can do about it.

>re-transcoded
lol you mean resampled?

+1 on this. I'd be able to natively watch them on my apple shit soon.

Because it's very impractical and heavy to convert a bitmap image to a vector representation. For some things like noise or fine texture the vector would have to be really complex, I don't think you will save on space that way.

I have converted a lot of subs to webvtt so kek on you

Good thing video isn't produced for 44100Hz.

Is Daiz still around? I haven't seen him in years and his anime sub group has been dead for a long time too.

>his subtitle format of choice can't play animations or have different fonts
>it will always look out of place and jarring because there's no way to beatifully compose it along with the picture

TOP LEL

>What is CSS?
top kek

>has to have a fucking browser running to see the subtitles

just make animation studios to render their videos to vector based codec

You know 44.1kHz is only for CDs right?
It's also trash btw

u know u can use a simple media player to play it?
I can't believe you're that stupid.

>the "simple" media player has to have a whole fucking web browser shipped with it to have the subtiles rendered

TOP LOL

But so many encodes are shitty and with each format shift get bigger, not smaller.

That won't operate well with studios' business sense. They can't ship videos to a market that's not ready to watch vector videos, the market isn't ready because there is no proper hardware or even standards for this and there are plenty of other existing mature technologies. Studio can't prepare something without an infrastracture that the big boys dictate.

web browser != css rendering engine

pretty much the same as ass format or do you think all those colors and effects are part of the codec? You need a video filter wich render it so it's even easier to implement and use the css rendering engine

I'm getting bored answering your dumb shit.

If you aren't an expert, may as well go bigger than fuck everything up going for the line between optimal compression and quality.

Because if you aren't watching it on a PC, you are doing it wrong.

Where can I read more about video containers/codecs?
I really don't know anything about them, but I want to have at least some basic knowledge.

Doom9 is where all the autists gather

has that really been relevant post-2005?

Er, no, its the opposite. Codec progress has allowed much more data/higher quality in smaller file sizes.

rips from 2001 are still 100-300mb in size while being 480p

You have no idea what you are talking about.

>only visibly better than avc at sub 2.5k bitrate
>less hw compatibility than avc
>manufacturers have to suck the mpeg-la cock and pay massive taxes to include decoders
>is going to get superseded by av1 in literally a year
hevc is a mistake. either go h264/avc or wait for av1.

x265 is pretty much pajeet-tier software

Container: avi
Video: flv
Audio: mp3
Subtitles: hardcoded yellow

Commie plz

x264 was literally nigger tier back in 2008-2011. But eventually it got MUCH better very fast
The same with x265 has yet to happen, but I'm hoping it will. Especially with encoding speed and grain retention

mp4
aac
h264
whatever is in mp4

This

I fucking love bonkai. His filters are the best.

mkv
fdk he-aac
h264 (for now)

mkv

RealVideo
hardsubs

When will we see AV1 encodec movies and TV shows? Will the non-anime rippers ever move to it?

Roll.

>filters out grain
Get the fuck out

If you call that kike enough times he will end up replying.

He's a bald cunt.

...

He is busy shilling for a cartoon porn site.

I heard Fakku was failing but I doubt it because nothing good ever happens.

HEVC itself is fine.
but x265 is utter garbage, then can't even partition image correctly

He partnered with Sekai Project to create not!Nutaku.

>Sekai Project
Blech, fucking scammers.

You should know 90% of DAC's resample to 48KHz in hardware anyway, you might as well control how that happens.

mkv
flac
ffv1
srt

we'll never live to see lossless anime

>VP9
No, fuck you. I don't want my laptop's fan blaring while I'm watching my stories. H.264 is perfectly fine. I'm a NEET and I'm not going to buy a new laptop just to watch anime.

>Reencoding audio
Just do a passthrough. I don't know why anime groups are so retarded with audio that they either convert the lossy AC3 audio to FLAC resulting in audio 3x the original size or convert it to sub 96kbps trash. Oh wait I do, 99% don't know what they're doing.

dvd/bluray have options for lossless audio (PCM/DTS-MA/TrueHD), these make sense to convert to flac

You motherfuckers are retarded. Stop trying to push these meme codecs and containers. h.264, ogg/aac and srt in a mkv works FINE and is supported by everything including the kitchen toaster. It pisses me off to no end when I download shit just to find the codec isn't supported on one of my devices and I have to run it through ffmpeg. You niggers are killing my plex server.

Just
fucking
stop.

>waah stop using new technologies that don't work on my 2nd gen Iphone

>*marginally better technologies that take more energy to encode and decode and don't have hardware support on anything.
h.265 and vp9 will be great in 5 years. Not now.

The broadcast industry already sided with HEVC. AV-1 will never be popular outside OTT and The Scene.

>mp3
ra for consistency

Vector-based video would allow people to do arbitrary resolution rips and 4K projections with minimal loss. Not profitable.

roll

And it still fails to do smooth gradients without banding.

You forgot MPEG Timed Text
>hardsubs
lol. They will look like shit due to chroma subsampling, unreadable if downscaled and blurry when upsampled. Worst choice ever.

>Opus
>VP9

enjoy your lack of hardware acceleration, general poor compatibility, and lossy audio

10bit doesn't have this problem

My BD player only accepts FLAC as an audio only format. For video, it must be AAC, MP3, PCM, (E-)AC-3 or DTS (lossless variants included).
And receivers wouldn't accept FLAC over S/PDIF or HDMI either.

>zero consumer hardware support.
Only professional hardware supports 10-bit.

i'm not sure how any of that is relevant
transcoding from a lossless source to flac isn't a waste of space
and for receiver support, just have your player output to a supported lossless format, if it supports any at all, it'll at least support PCM, which is what anything decodes to anyway

What media player are we using nowadays? Since mpc is dead.

mpv
