>want to install linux >download ISO >pop in flash drive >click through the ISO writing program very quickly >accidentally clicked the wrong USB device and hit "Go"
>ended up writing the ISO to my external hard drive >a decade's worth of reaction images, rare .swfs, irc logs, and other internet memories gone in a fucking second
Here, have this anime i pulled off google images. I'm fucking upset, guys
This is why you don't use (provide) a GUI for such things. Chances are you would have thought and double checked your input before hitting enter if you had to use a command.
Mason Garcia
what can i do now?
since i am on linux now, could anyone recommend me a good program for trying to recover data when you lost the partition table? GUI or command line, I don't care
>a decade's worth of reaction images, rare .swfs, irc logs, and other internet memories gone in a fucking second Good riddance. Time to activate those neurons and become creative.
William Allen
I feel empty now
What should I create?

google photorec user, i accidentally did the same thing to a hard drive that had family photos on it and that program pulled about 100000 images out of unallocated space

Not OP, but I have a similar problem, so I'd appreciate any help in getting my pics back. In my case my GUID Partition Table got nuked, and I want to know how to restore the partition table.

That's your fault for being a dumbass and A: not having backups and B: not paying attention
Everytime I use Rufus or Unetbootin I take a damned good look at what drive it is about to overwrite
Jeremiah Wood
you could get it back with a recovery program but it'll be a bitch to sort

So Linux had absolutely nothing to do with it. You would have screwed up with any OS, since they all tend to come as disk images.

Maybe write to the 8GB volume instead of the 1TB volume next time user. Did you have a backup? No? Well, maybe this is a wake up call. You can still run file recovery software and salvage what you can.
Wish you the best xoxoxoxxooxxx -user

First, try testdisk. It is superb free and libre tool for pargition recovery.
If this doesn't work however: 1. Download ReclaiMe Pro trial from their website 2. Download Fiddler 3. Install both 4.1. Each time you start RMP, it sends your key (trial) to their server 4.2. Their server responds with two numbers, $tier and $date, unencrypted, unobfuscated 4.3. Values for tiers are: "0"(key invalid), "1"(valid trial key), "2"(valid pro key) 6. Intercept server response with Fiddler 7. You are now in possession of enterprise grade data recovery software worth $800 MSRP.
Thank me by doing good and being nice and helpful to other people. Oh, and backup your shit ffs.

This is why burning DVDs and Blu-ray Discs is still a viable backup option. I have CD backups from 2003 of my early internet days. Planning to get some of those 100 year discs and make copies.
