Tfw its time to reinstall your OS

Another day down the drain...

#JustWindowsThings

I'd like to make an amnesiac partition of Lowang 10 that I can reinstall pre-configured but without any actual user information on it, leaving sensitive apps (and hopefully their portable data) on an encrypted partition on another SSD. That would make formatting relatively easy but I imagine it would be pretty taxing on an SSD.

i just restore a hdd image backup of the iniital install. just start it and do something else or go to sleep.

If you reinstall your os often you should consider nixos.

I never got this meme. A bunch of people I know were reinstalling about once a year or so. I've had XP for 8 years, 7 for 4 and now on 8.1 for a bit over 3 years and never had to reinstall anything. The only thing I reinstalled a lot was 98SE. I really wonder what the fuck to these people do to brick their OS so much

It takes me like 1 hour total to download a linux iso, put it on a usb flash drive, boot from it, install linux, update linux, add my third party repos, install all my software that doesn't come with the distro and configure it.

Installing windows takes an entire day because you have to wrestle with fucked up updates, failed update loops, windows settings being in max shittiness mode and actively trying to change back when you configure them.

>brick
i reinstall my system whenever i hit the 1000 packages mark

>Brick
Who's talking about that shit? But all the programms and stuff will naturally clutter and slow your shit down. Wiping everything once a year or every two years, is recommended. Its like wiping dust user.

What you're saying is that you never ever clean your house, because you dont mind the dirt

porn and bonzibuddy

Sounds like the daily life of an Arch/Gentoo user.

feels good never needing to reinstall arch

pacman -Syu

>Installing windows takes an entire day because you have to wrestle with fucked up updates, failed update loops, windows settings being in max shittiness mode and actively trying to change back when you configure them.
This is my pain.
>have a Samsung Chronos 7
>recovery partition is windows 8 first version
>when re-installing I first gotta update 8 all the way to the end, before the 10 update prompts
>fuck my life

updating != reinstalling

oh yea, reinstalling windows
that takes me back

According to some of them it becomes almost unusable. I'm not talking about an extra second of boot time but struggling to open chrome and playing youtube videos and shit.

Also I really don't see any slowdowns with my long-running installs. Just disable trash services, properly uninstall stuff when not needed, disable most auto-update and similar features for newly installed programs etc.

> fucked up updates, failed update loops
This really is the worst of it. Can't even install all listed updates at once, because Windows WILL fuck it up, and then it has to revert. Which is FUCKED on a fresh installation.
I resorted to installing them in batches of ten.
Thank you Microsoft.

don't you wish windows could do a netinstall like most linux distros, where the installer downloads the latest packages and installs those directly, so you install each package only once, and they're up to date from the get-go?

>According to some of them it becomes almost unusable.
Well that sounds like they're just idiots the likes of "I won an iPhone!" tier idiots.
My PC isn't really slower as well, but I notice some smaller fucks ups. Especially with Winupdates, so once in a while I do this to get the latest updates right from the start, without the old clutter.

Windows 10?

>being to retarded to clean temp and update data
>not using common sense while browsing

Seriously, some people are so technologically illiterate that they should be given an abacus instead of a PC..
An OS is like a car. With simple and scheduled maintenance it can run smooth for years.
My current win 7 install is almost 8 years old and is running like clockwork..

Windows would fuck that up as well. Its just windows really. The method doesn't matter, it will be fucked in one way or the other

I've been skipping this day out of laziness for two years now.

>being such a brainlet that you think those will suffice

>NixOS

>like clockwork..
I don't even wanna see how that clockwork looks on the inside.
Yuck!

likely due to their lack of proper file tracking, as well as the inability to replace files that are open
in linux, the package manager knows exactly what version everything is, which files to remove when removing a package, and can delete and replace files even if they're open (which doesn't break things, as the open files are kept on disk until the handle(s) are closed)

>that feel when your garden gets overgrown so you have to tear it up and plant a new one

>don't know how to restore your system
Literally wangblows comes with a restoration tool, good goy.

>implying
Rolling release my dude
