You can also poison or debilitate your character or experience bizarre side effects like hallucinations that might be mixed with beneficial effects. If you really screw up your character could die or your character could be forever unplayable and you'd have to make a new one. Like you log in and your character is forever hallucinating and flopping around and anything you type to other players in rendered unintelligible because they drank a really fucked up potion.
This game should be focused on experimentation, maybe randomness would be implemented into effects so each new character would have to experiment again. You couldn't just look up on GameFAQs to find out mixing ingredients A, B, and C turn you into a god.
