How do I be cool and survive in my IT job?

>Be me
>Got hired to do coding
>Been there several months, many PRs merged to the code base, so it seems alright..
>But am a loner and several people sit near me in the 'open office plan' who constantly talk and chatter but I'm not included
>They have positions of seniority / have been here before me, so I dunno wtf
>On one hand, I get my work done, help review other people's code, participate in team meetings etc when I can
>On the other, I don't interact with the top managers ever, and these people at computers right next to me do and are constantly gabbing, so I feel they're going to judge me and say I don't cooperate or socialize and find a reason to axe me.

Wat do?

I just want to hang around because I get a good salary and benefits and feels like I can make some contribution in software, but then again maybe I'm not cool and hip like the cohorts around me so I'm going to get sidelined off the better projects, be a nobody and/or maybe get let go unexpectedly. ;_;

wtf is it that makes people think job advice threads belong on Sup Forums

Where else do you talk about tech jobs?
This is the tech board.

/adv/ dummy

I went there once, it seems like a bunch of inexperienced losers giving life advice on things they know very little about.

>implying that's any different at all from Sup Forums
doesn't matter what your opinion of the board is, that's where this thread belongs

Who knows, have the same problem with coworkers. They are okay people but don't have much in common with them. Still, it's important to have a couple of guys you can talk to for advice and shit about work or the company. Tag along for lunch or go on a stroll or something and invite people out. Either way, staying in the same company for >2 years is a bad idea, so it's not like you're stuck with the same team for life.

Seems to me you work with fuckwits

You can safely ignore the other slaves but always make sure the slave owners know who you are.

>coding

Programming is not IT.

Damnit this is why I hate normie superiors.
>durrrrr user why u no talk about day
>duuuuuuurrr u fired leave nowwwwww
>drools

>Muh open office, no cubicles
>Hey guys lets socialize!
>I just got back from B school where I learned """LEADERSHIP SKILLS"""
>user, what do you mean you're not going to the after work office happy hour!?!
>You gotta market yourself bro, where's your online presence?
I feel for you. Modern workplace culture (especially in tech) is a fucking cancer on the soul. I feel like the world is massively biased towards these annoying, phony extroverts people for no valid reason. Why can't I just do my job like a normal man and keep my interactions with people I know I don't really vibe with to a minimum?

As long as you're valuable to the company, you won't get axed.

Just make small talk and if gossip comes up just say you don't like to gossip at work. You may be labeled as the office weirdo but as long as you pull your weight you'll never be fired and people will hold respect that you don't engage in office politics. Just don't act like the next office shooter.

shoot up the place. kill yourself.

Pretty much this but you need to make sure people know when ur creating value. If you aren't actually creating value, pretend you are.
Open office plans are cancer and research shows they lower productivity.

No it doesn't, it belongs here you fucking faggot

Tips on getting hired?

took 2 years until i become lead programmer
just make sure your code is modular that you could just copy and paste between projects and commit your code early
programing is ez money, its like money exploit in real world

Try to contain your spaghetti and join in the conversation. Ask them about themselves or what they were talking about.

You will realize quickly 99% of conversations even with "friends" are dull and meaningless but they will like you because they think you give a shit about what they have to say.

>Sup Forums - technology
Christmas is coming up. Does your office have a christmas party? go to it, socialise, bang linda from accounts in the toilets, try and act like a human being not someone who seeks advice from Sup Forums.

Mate fuck off
I welcome anything that isn't AYYYmd on suicide watch thread #3554 or a battlestation/guts/wholeinteriorofmyhouse validatory wankfest

plox put two underscores on the sad face like this ;__; looks much nicer desu

>You gotta market yourself bro, where's your online presence?
Fuck me I'm so happy I have a way around that.

elaborate pls

I got a CS master's while going for my law doctorate and lucked into a security advisory position for a fuckhuge law firm. So every time I tell people I don't have social media, they nod sagely and assume it's because of security concerns and not because I literally couldn't care less for their stupid shit.

You should fuck off back to r*ddit buddy.
