I cannot believe I am bearing witness to this. Sup Forums not en masse supporting net neutrality.
If you told me this even three years ago I wouldn't believe it.
this board is now officially unrecognizable. I cannot comprehend how you can reconcile open source ideals with shunning net neutrality. get it together, Sup Forumsents. Stop bringing ideological bs into our beloved internet. Support net neutrality. Don't so willfully betray your kin.
--- This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals.
We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals.
Sup Forums has been a far-right troll site ever since Gamergate.
Jacob Sullivan
well said, op! HACKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE

We don't need NN though. It's a government solution to a government made problem.
Hudson Miller
>wanting an echo chamber get out, go back to wherever you came from
Wyatt Cruz
I come from here. I wont be leaving anytime soon. But this board has strayed. We're Sup Forums. We are better than this.
Matthew Robinson
Cry me a river bitch, I work for a big ISP I cant imagine how my wage will multiply once net neutrality ends and since Im just 30' Im still able to get a higher position and infiltrate my son into the company
Jayden Williams
>Prefers corporate cock over government cock
Jose Ward
> people don't share my politics > 'We have strayed. We are better!'
Adrian Reyes
I didn't even say what side I was on you stupid piece of shit. OP wants an echo chamber.
Parker Baker
>board has strayed you don't understand. reddit should be more your speed.
Parker Phillips
Not really because those same stupid corporations are big and some of the only options some people have because of the government as a whole. So I would just support lowering the barrier of entry for newer ISPs and increasing competition.
Zachary Taylor
It's not politics. It's not ideological. It's a necessary foundation of this technology, and we're supposed to be its vanguards. We're failing in our duties.
Gabriel Hall
I get what you're saying, but there is absolutely no way that it will benefit us over the corporations involved. Most of the larger ones regularly get legislation changed to suit their needs, and in some cases totally write their own laws.
I personally dont have much of a stake in it, and doubt it will effect me personally, but mark my words, 'net neutrality', or whatever bastardized version we see, will be mainly designed to milk as much money out of the consumer as possible. At least at the start, it very well could evolve into something like a resource or a basic Right. But if that's the case it will become increasingly inefficient and indirectly more expensive in the long run, just like absolutely every government run program ever. I would rather pay $50/month for something up front than have it buried in my taxes and end up paying $75.
I dunno where I stand politically, Im definitely not right wing, but I also think the government can suck a cock
Jeremiah Jenkins
Your next line will be >but the jews!
Jayden Evans
Nope, it's definitely political because there are alternatives to all this regulation which mind you hasn't even existed before 2014/2015.
Luis Stewart
>bruh it's not even politiks anymore
Levi Sullivan
I first came to Sup Forums in 2014 and you guys were saying the exact same thing
Nothing has changed you idiots

>If you told me this even three years ago I wouldn't believe it.

A lot of us just realize it's a hopeless battle at this point. Why waste energy on something we can't change?
Juan Fisher
What needs to happen is the infrastructure needs to be nationalized like the electric grid. Otherwise it will suffer the same fate as our privatized railroads (insufficient, lacking ample priority, and dedicated monitoring.)
Either way the 3-letter agencies have their hands on your data.
It seems I'm alone in the FDR type of social nationalist category here.
Wyatt Phillips

Wrong site you fucking commie.
Nicholas Hernandez
Spotted the Gamergate bandwagoner.
Jordan Perez
Sup Forums has always been a libertarian stronghold you fucking newfag. holy shit just lurk more before posting or go back to whatever reddit page you're from
Sup Forums is filled with brainless magapedes who think ricing their $200 sukebei machine is technology. Nothing they think should surprise you.
Owen Brown
The government problem is that we haven't mass executed executives from ISPs and nationalized our internet infrastructure, yes.
Andrew Turner
and don't forget the /cyb/ tards. 99% of them are obsessed with anime and haxoring
Matthew Allen
we need to abandon the shitty, centralized internet that allows opressive corporations and governments to control information. ending NN would be one of the many straws to land on the camel's back of internet users to get them to set up their own networks.
William Gonzalez
You realize they are voting to REPEAL net neutrality? It's already in place. You don't stand anywhere politically because you're too ignorant to have an opinion. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality_in_the_United_States It doesn't take much to be at least minimally informed about the issue. After wikipedia you can go look up all the other sources you want. The issue is a political one just because a fuss has been made about obama suggesting to guarantee net neutrality so trump is trying to oppose it. Whether you think the reason to oppose it are correct or whether he's just trying to dismantle obama's actions are up to you to decide. I don't live in the US. It won't directly affect me unless europe follows suit, and in the foreseeable future i don't see that happening.
This isn't a vote to have it become socialized and nationalized and buried in your taxes. It's to keep the situation as it is now and not allow ISP's to raise prices or shit like that.
There are some reasons that can be given as to why net neutrality can be the wrong thing. I don't agree with those reasons. Its obvious that the ISP's and big tech companies don't really care about the consumers but their own pockets. Netflix doesn't want comcast to raise the price on "streaming packages" and damage their profits. But you gotta support whatever bad guy helps you out more. Is it better for you to keep things as they are and tech companies not get damaged or give more power to ISPS that might create "streaming packages for 20$ extra" and then the tech companies raise their prices themselves after seeing fewer people use their services?

but user the whole net neutrality shebang has been a thing for years and there were protests against it during the Obama mandate, what does Trump have to do with it ?
Connor Johnson
It's not Sup Forums. It's Sup Forums invading Sup Forums again as usual. It's laughable how little they understand of technology, yet spill over into our board to try to trigger regular Sup Forums posters by coming up with posts that show how ignorant they are on the subjects.
Angel Murphy
You outsmarted every country in the world that experienced you into banning you Commie faggot. That's quite smart indeed.
Sup Forums is a board for consumerism whores and subhuman hipsters that use loonix to rice their desktops for like 5 years already, kill yourself newfag

I love how OP says "this board is now officially unrecognizable". Bet the fucker came when all the shitstains from 9gag found out about this place.

Just like with "patriot act".

I actually saw more people talking about the DRM the w3c approved on Gopher and UseNet than on the web.

you wish Been on Sup Forums since after Sup Forumsuro days, never once supported government regulations, dont plan to do so now If it's someone spilling over it's fucking reddit, Sup Forums was is and will be mostly libertarian or communist depnding on the board, if you were here for at least a year you'd see that watered down ideologies don't fly here
Andrew Johnson
This is the exact opposite of what the government should do, and is amplifying the problem 10fold. All humans without any exception, be government, be private company etc.. ultimately want your money for no work. And when they're the only choice, they will use it to get as close as the possible of the goal stated above. But when you have actual real competition, you will have two humans wanting your money and they will constantly fight each other for it, thus offering much more work for your money. But that don't exactly COMPLETELY ELIMINATE your socialism, as if the government competed with the private sector in an equal footing, well competition is competition.
Brandon Rivera
>reddit spacing >muh net bogality who gives a shit
Isaiah Young
>We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. You push boundaries. This is not far from being a criminal in society.
Brandon Jones
Thinking a bit more, the "ideal socialist solution" would be the US using nasa to launch a shitload of satellites that offer cheap shitty internet. As in for example,1MBPS, 50-100ms ping, no caps. The no caps part is the funniest, because it pretty much imposes NN on comcast, at&t etc because they will have to compete with the sattelites, and they can't do it with tiered internet.

So basically USA is caught between a rock and a hard place between companies that might throttle and companies that push for DRM?
William Cruz
Net neutrality shifts liberty from the ISPs to the internet services themselves. The government will always have control over putting regulations on the internet. This one just makes sure you don't get treated badly by the ISPs you pay.
Josiah Cruz
Why is net neutrality such a big deal in the States? We don't have it over here (bongistan) and nobody seems to mind

Bongistan is stuck in 1984. Of course noone cares.

It's only been in place since 2015, so nothing changes consumer side. Just because they call it NN doesn't make it true. It's just a kick back to huge silicon valley companies in the form of they don't pay their fair share of use.
Cameron Carter

Austin Stewart
Fuck off mate
Jason Fisher
>Sup Forums >better than anything You sound like a 12 year old for christ's sake, go back to your cyberpunk novels
Asher Roberts
Let's assume that they repeal it and Comcast says Netflix has to pay x$ for their "fair share". Do you think that they'll gladly accept that? Or do you think that they'd then raise their own subscription prices or gain some other monetary value from their userbase? Be it ads or selling more data than they already do or anything else?
What if the isp's decide they could make more money on making the consumer rather than the company pay?
In both cases the consumer is ultimately fucked. If you say "oh deregulate the markets" because you're a big libertarian free market guy then sure I could understand if I saw any possible future for new isp's to disrupt the market and bring competition. Because the current landscape seems to an oligopoly. With no chance of competition. The isp's cut up their territory where they are the only option and just fuck the consumer in the ass.
Ayden Hughes
And the argument of being in place for 3 years makes no sense. Why does that matter when before then it was an up in the air question still. The fcc had to decide one way or the other. Isp's were lobbying one way and tech companies the other. I'm not some tech-bro that seems them as the second coming.
But then bringing up fairness between two entities that both want to suck the most money out of your pockets seems to be of a person with moral standards up to masochism or partisan bullshit.
Just support the entity that will do you less harm
Kayden Rodriguez

I'd like net neutrality, I'm just exhausted from people pretending any of their battles matter when all it takes is the whim of a new president to completely upend their hard-won "victories"

If net neutrality is enforced, that's a big win for the ISP monopolies as they become public utilities entitled to billions of dollars in new government investment
If net neutrality is repealed, that's a big win for the ISP monopolies as they can do whatever the fuck they want to their service and customers without oversight
John Garcia
The anti-authoritarian identity of Sup Forums is gone. The average retard on this site now trusts any authority that they believe is on the right side of the culture wars.
