Anyone else here hate KDE?

Anyone else here hate KDE?

I've never enjoyed using the KDE interface even in it's original form and since then it's only gotten worse with every release.

The current version of Plasma is near unusable. Even on high end GPU accelerated hardware it stutters and tears. There's too many interface elements scattered all over the place. The desktop metaphor they use is complete shit; it's unintuitive, it lacks cohesion, it feels like a hundred different UI paradigms slapped together with no integration. And the ridiculous concept of activities takes this mish-mash of implementations and turns it into a 'feature'.

Does anyone even use activities? I bet there's a handful of people who have even bothered to try it out. Because why would any user want the entire desktop changed so drastically at the push of a button? If I'm running Linux on a kiosk then I'll set up a kiosk interface and leave it at that. If it's on a desktop then I'll setup up a desktop interface. Are there any cases where a user would want two seperate UI's on one OS? I can already switch workspaces for window management. No other GUI I know of has a option to completely change it's configuration on the fly as part of it's features.

That's because competent operating system user interface should become familiar over time, it should be able to handle whatever task you need without having to be completely reconfigured. The KDE activities implementation proves that the team responsible have no idea what constitutes a good interface for a desktop system. They've built an environment that can do anything and everything without boundaries, even if those boundaries are sensible and necessary for navigation.

KDE a fucking joke.

That is a whole lot words just to day "I'm a faggot". They pay you by the word shill? What do garden gnomes use as currency?

>hate KDE
Why?

...

>even if those boundaries are sensible and necessary for navigation.
t. Gnome dev

>Even on high end GPU accelerated hardware it stutters and tears
My Intel and AMD systems have no issues with it whatsoever.

How can i get those icons??!?!?!?!

or what kde version is this?

>or what kde version is this?
Probably the one OP is complaining about.

I started out with Slackware years ago and used KDE for a long time. Last time I looked it over it stall has the same bugs it had ~20 years ago. It's also very bloated, and I don't like DEs (or anything else) that have opt-out indexers and trackers recording everything in a database. You shouldn't have to go in and manually disable all of that crap like akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, baloo. Some of the applications that come with KDE are great, but you can't use them without pulling in half a ton of the whole KDE desktop. Not for me, Thanks.

It runs great on my 200 dollar Intel Celeron laptop. Your problem sounds like user error.

The number one problems you guys have is not using KDE Neon.

My main issue is with the desktop interface itself, it just doesn't feel cohesive and it should. Even in comparison to newer DE's it feels so clunky and thrown together.

I really wish KDE would just die. It's ridiculous that in 2017 we still have 2 communities working on complete desktop solutions (Gnome and KDE). Just fucking ditch KDE already, there is literally ONE person I work with who uses KDE and he's a complete faggot.

KDE has never been good, hell it's never even been NOT-bad. In screenshots in looks decent, usable even but once you're in front of a live system any gloss you see is only surface deep, the underlying mechanics are just a bloated outdated mess dressed up to look like Windows 10.

Let's kill KDE and move the fuck on already.

Is it just me, or does anyone notice how fucking awful the start menu thing feels on KDE? It feels like you have to hold your mouse over a thing for half a second for it to register that you moved it there

Well, I used Gnome2 for a while after I used KDE, and when Gnome went full retard with Gnome3 I switched over to Mate. I'm very satisfied with it and have no reason to switch.

No, it's not just you believe me. There's a large amount of people who have major issues with SHIT like what you just explained. Things don't flow nicely, the default start panel is a great example.

MATE is a great choice, but depending on the distro you're using you could try Gnome 3 with using Gnome Classic.

I actually prefer it to the Gnome 2 desktop now. it's worth a try.

It's GNOME that should be ditched, you retard.
Qt is the toolkit standard, period. Desktop KDE's shortcomings are irrelevant, plus GNOME 3 sucks

Qt should be absorbed into GTK. There, problem solved.

It's buttery smooth with many browser tabs running and doing other stuff on a cheap under-powered laptop I take with me everywhere.
KDE on a N3050 or 3350 don't remember and too lazy to boot it up now probably the weaker one it was cheap.
It doesn't even have an SSD only a 5400rpm HDD. What the hell are you running it on that it is unusable?
Now it not having any decent themes would be a valid complaint.
Same laptop can't run GNOME without being unusable (kinda ironic), only DE that would beat it in performance that I tried is xfce (not by much), but I like the feel of KDE more.

You do know that KDE ships with alternatives to most desktop elements by default, right? Just rightclick them with widgets unlocked.

AHAHAHAH

Widgets, right! Because that’s where the future of GUI design is headed. Your KDE widget paradigm is garbage, I have no issue with Qt but KDE is just a mess from top to bottom. Believe me, fucked around trying to get a KDE into a useful state and I naturally ended up with a desktop that looks like Gnome. Says a lot about KDE, doesn’t it?

KDE done right:

lxqt.org

Any taskbar element is just called a widget. Xfce, Mate lxqt all have the same shit. Only desktop I can thinknof that won' t let you customize your panel is Gnome.

Just use Budgie, you colossal faggots.

>Anyone else here hate KDE?
Assmad?
>I've never enjoyed using the KDE interface even in it's original form and since then it's only gotten worse with every release.
Are you mad that your 32-bit hardware can't keep up?
>The current version of Plasma is near unusable.
More like your distro or hardware is shit or you can't do a simple killall command.
>Even on high end GPU accelerated hardware it stutters and tears.
More like you've never touched a high end GPU since 2010 or you haven't installed the proper drivers like a retard would do or your distro just suck bad
>There's too many interface elements scattered all over the place. ...
So they had to adjust the whole project just to cater your autism and OCD?
>And the ridiculous concept of activities takes this mish-mash of implementations and turns it into a 'feature'.
Activities is useful if you don't want to get caught on your porn or scantily clad animu wall while on projectors.
>Does anyone even use activities?...
>...
>If it's on a desktop then I'll setup up a desktop interface. Are there any cases where a user would want two...
It's useful for having different task manager(taskbar icons) and widgets among activities.
I used to use 3 activities, one for basic stuff, programming, and for graphics and it really helps with my concentration
>That's because competent operating system user interface should become familiar over time, it should be able to handle whatever task you need without having to be completely reconfigured.
"competent" whoah. just stop.
Maybe just go back. Just go back to windows at this point or maybe go back to apple(tm).
>The KDE activities implementation proves that the team responsible have no idea what constitutes a good interface for a desktop system.
Nice strawman argument. Too redundant.
>KDE a fucking joke.
You're the joke. You hold no value to anyone. You'll die a worthless death no one will even know while KDE will be legacy and known. Die a hater, retard.

haha triggered

>Qt should be absorbed into GTK.
What did he mean by this?

It still better than GNOME. Just use a WM like i3 or openbox or something.

Completely replace GTK

This. At least it's not Gnome.

Fuck off gnomelet

Being angry about the tool because of your incompetence?
You are a fool.

Holy shit user, take your medicine

I use debian stretch with kde
I don't really wanna rice anything so the easy setup was a big plus. But I still like my whole color scheme to be gray and black and kde made it easier than gnome

>Completely replace GTK
Answer the fucking question.

Nope, I can't stand it either. It's a shame, too because Konqi is so cute

KDE is shit
