AAC is a literal cuck codec.

Because most music is consumed through shitty earplugs or phone speakers. Never was any reason to use anything other than 96k mp3s.

>every video uses aac
not my collection
I suspect it's popular because it's the default apple codec and people associate apple with content production despite rendering on a macbook being fucking retarded

both android and VLC/MPC support AAC

so whats the issue?

Back then:
Lobbying by Fraunhofer and other consortiums meant that AAC wasn't marketed as a music file format.
Now:
AAC is a non-free format encumbered by patents.
MP3 is now a free format and is almost guaranteed to be compatible with whatever use case it needs to be
OPUS is free and has far better quality than even HE-AAC v2.
No reason to use AAC.

MP3 doesnt work well with current day video codecs and video containers, that's the main reason

Addendum: IIRC Steve Jobs had to force them to give the AAC licensing for use in their iTunes music store. Thus then until now only iTunes/Apple Music distribute music with the AAC codec, and also why the Apple AAC encoder is considered to be the best.

>mp3 is free

thats wrong

u still have to add-on the feature into audacity

huh? why not?

Modern video containers (i.e. MKV, every thing else is irrelevant) can support practically everything.
People don't use MP3 because they choose not to.

With implementations such as LAME, MP3 is now a wholly free as in freedom codec.

>this literally just happened a few months ago

literal autism

>every video uses AAC
Most these days use Vorbis or Opus. Because YouTube.

Nah, mang, mp3 is finally truly free.
xiphmont.dreamwidth.org/76442.html

youtube converts it to that, but when videos are hosted on other platforms (major media outlets who reup everywhere) you'll see mp4 and aac when u download it

>backpedaling and name-calling at the same time
Just admit that you're wrong you dumb faggot.

>but when videos are hosted on other platforms (major media outlets who reup everywhere)
None of which are anywhere near the scale of youtube. I said most not all.

>Most these days use Vorbis or Opus. Because YouTube.
Youtube still uses AAC along with Vorbis and Opus.

>Modern video containers (i.e. MKV, every thing else is irrelevant)
Why the plural then? Just say container, dumbass.

>Youtube still uses AAC along with Vorbis and Opus.
Only if you're on Applel using Safari (ie, the only web platform left without Vorbis and Opus native). Way to out yerself.

Literally nobody knows or cares about Vorbis or Opus, or ever will for that matter.

>Way to out yerself.
...did you even look at the image I posted?

>saying this on this site

they literally not only use vorbis but require the 8th version which is out dated and 9 is now the standard so its a pain in the ass to create a webm

Every ONLINE video uses AAC.

Meanwhile actual professional video uses AC3, since it's still released on DVD.

>...did you even look at the image I posted?
Um yeah. I could go on bout how I'm part of the youtube team and WebM is always preferred, but, ya know... no details eh.

>implying I have or ever will create(d) a webm
Fuck it man, I try to avoid WATCHING those shits.

Hopefully Sup Forums will get APNG soon so I can do it

>they literally not only use vorbis but require the 8th version which is out dated and 9 is now the standard so its a pain in the ass to create a webm
this... makes no sense. There are no non-interoperable versions of Vorbis.

>Literally nobody knows or cares about Vorbis or Opus, or ever will for that matter.
xcept every streaming service and the likes of discord

or just fucking embed stuff from streamable or gifycat or imgur's gifv and other sites that discord easily embeds from

I think you might be confusing VPx (a family of free video codecs) with Vorbis (a free audio codec).

>Fuck it man, I try to avoid WATCHING those shits.
Why? It's a perfectly reasonable video format.

>Hopefully Sup Forums will get APNG soon so I can do it
APNG is a clunky non-standard extension which basically no-one uses.

test yeah

test yea
