Just in case he doesn't respond - I think that's HP-UX, with a RDP session to a windows 7 host. HP-UX was HP's fancy UNIX for the PA-RISC archetecture. It used the CDE as the desktop environment. If you want you can compile it on a modern Debian box.

It's an old Visualize C3000 running HP-UX that I keep around at home. I don't really have any specific practical/work reasons for running it, I just enjoy over-engineered enterprise hardware and making it useful again.
Right on. I think my setup's generic as hell other than the HP audio controls and the browser icon I stole from Solaris, surprised someone could tell just from that shot.

It is. The core is very stable. Other parts of the KDE is not. Crashes are common but not the core.
KDE is a very large set of software. So it's normal that some parts are developed by sub-standard developers. Overall it's beautiful and usable.
