Classic Shell dev quits

Another one bites the dust.

That's what happens when you're a proprietary cuck.

This is why I hate open source software (where there's just 1 dude working on the project). If that person dies or just decides to quit, all fucking hope is lost.

It's a different thing if a program is maintained by an open source COMMUNITY where a lot of developers are contributing to the project.

Anyone know of an alternative? Literally every other post on /r/Windows10 is about the built-in start menu's search function can't find even the most simple stuff like Google Chrome if you search for it

just use Everything

>Literally every other post on /r/Windows10 is about the built-in start menu's search function can't find even the most simple stuff like Google Chrome if you search for it
?

>Literally every other post on /r/Windows10 is about the built-in start menu's search function can't find even the most simple stuff like Google Chrome if you search for it

that sort of issue only happens if you don't install things properly

>This is why I hate open source software (where there's just 1 dude working on the project). If that person dies or just decides to quit, all fucking hope is lost.
How would that be fixed by not having open source software? If there's only one person and that person dies, with proprietary software it's fully lost. With open source someone else can at least see the code and fork it.

open source software is often buggier and incompatible, without a dev these will never get fixed

type "regedi"

>So, moving forward, I am making the latest version of Classic Shell open-source and adding it back to SourceForge (sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/)

Literally anyone will work it

Oh no, you have to write out the full name. What a fucking catastrophe.

What exactly do you mean by that? What things and how can you install them improperly?

you're missing the point

>have fuzzy finder
>doesn't work properly
>who cares, just type in the whole thing!

Typical Sup Forums post.

>x doesn't do something y that it's supposed to do?
>who needs y. only retards need y. big deal

This is Steve Jobs level
>just don't hold it that way

Typical dumb goalpost-shifting redditors.
>haha it's so shit you can't even search for chrome!
>prove that you can
>o-oh yeah, well you can't search for this obscure command unless you type out the full name xd
Fucking neck yourselves. Search works fine for any properly installed program.

Fucking this.

I've seen that picture so many times over the years and I only just realised today that she's not naked.

i want to go back to being ignorant.

???

How does this even happen? Can't the Windows guys ask the Bing guys to spend an afternoon writing a little search feature?
Why doesn't Windows search my programs immediately when I type something? It's almost always faster to use "All Programs" and scroll through the list manually.
Why can't this company get even this little feature right?

>don't install things properly

I've had this happen on a default, vanilla, brand fucking new windows install. The fix I found for it was ridiculously obscure and involved editing various registry settings.

OUT OF THE BOX.

So fuck you and fuck people who suggest it is the operators fault this shit happens. Windows is broken shit.

>regedit
>obscure
>properly installed
>as if you can improperly install something on an OS where everything is next...next...next

It's a buggy feature. I've dealt with it in the past. I don't use Windows much anymore, so it doesn't bother me, but it is a thing.

Mixing internet search results with system search is truly a terrible idea.

it's neither buggy nor obscure.
it's a feature so normies don't accidentally open it and fuck up their computer

>Search works fine for any properly installed program.
you think you know shit but you don't.

>it's not a bug, it's a feature

10 cents have been deposited in your Microsoft account.

Isn't that what W10 search already does?
I'm not saying to make the Windows search use the internet though, I'm just saying to let the guys who work on Bing search to make a simple search engine for the windows guys.
Surely it's easier to search files/folders on a single machine than the entire internet.

hahahahahahahahahhaahahahhaha

how often did you type 3 letters and hit enter, only for some other application to open?
microdick literally went out of their way to implement it for some system apps

>everyone who knows about UI design is a shill
absolute state of Sup Forums

>Apple obscures things from normies
>fucking applel making toddler toys
>Microsoft obscures things from normies
>that's just good UI design, dontchaknow?
>Apple phones can't do x
>fucking applel, get AIDS faggot
>Android can't do x
>who wants to do x? Only retards do x?

the real state of Sup Forums

lol eat shit wincucks, maybe now you'll have to swap to a real OS.

>horse porn
the actual state of Sup Forums

this user is right, time to assemble a Hackintosh.

OR or you could just stop being a cuck and stop using windows 10.
He literally said that the main reason for him not to be able to continue was the fact that he had no free time caused because WINDOWS CHANGES AND BREAKS STUFF TWICE A YEAR and WINDOWS IS MOVING AWAY FROM WIN32 WITH EVERY RELEASE.
In other words you are the reason the software development stopped because you decided to use the most cucked version of windows.

>WINDOWS IS MOVING AWAY FROM WIN32 WITH EVERY RELEASE
As it should.

>horse porn

>maybe now you'll have to swap to a real OS.
Why? Because you posted that pic? Lmao.

Upgrading over time is good if it was under i would have introduced an alternative that would be added on windows 7 and steadily move away from win32 with every release of windows.
Also my alternative would not be DRM

>Surely it's easier to search files/folders on a single machine than the entire internet.

doing it without bringing your pc to a crawl is non trivial

start working on it yourself then. Don't have the time or skill? well shit, now you know why the project was done by 1 dude in his spare time to begin with. Shoulda given him an incentive to continue his work.

In there*
fucking autocorrect

>2) Windows 10 is being updated way too frequently (twice a year) and each new version changes something that breaks Classic Shell. And
>3) Each new version of Windows moves further away from the classic Win32 programming model, which allowed room for a lot of tinkering. The new ways things are done make it very difficult to achieve the same customizations
I had a feeling this was going to be a problem

its faster to click the desktop shortcut than trying to remember what you want to open and waiting many seconds for the search

The search should not act like a command prompt famalamadingdong

I guess it was only a matter of time, Win32 is dead, long live Win32.

nice

winshill btfo

when are you gonna pull that windick out of your ass, anyways? Maybe gonna wait and let microsoft finish on your back?

>Search works fine for any properly installed program.
>regedit is part of windows
>windows cannot properly install itself

again, it's to make sure that the normies who use windows don't accidentally open it while searching.

it's what happens when you have the most market share

>open source software is often buggier and incompatible
>buggier and incompatible
Not him but i honestly fail to see how those are related to a program being open source: An open source program can be checked by more people and bugs can potentially be fixed easier. Regarding compatibility is microsoft the one which has broken their own compatibility, not the projects that are just using their API. I can give you that open source projects can often be small, but yet that doesn't negate that there exist a lot of proprietary software with a one man team. In short what you're saying just makes no sense.

>windows cannot properly install itself
I actually got something like this some days ago:
>Windows 7 fresh install
>tries to install the visual c++ redistributable
>Installation hangs for an hour at 99%
>Has never happened to me before so press the cancel installation button to try again.
>Error: "another version of this product is already installed" when trying to run the installer again
>I was thinking the installer could try to just reinstall the files but i was wrong
>ok, no problem let's uninstall the previously detected installation
>The redistributable appears in the list of installed programs
>Error: "it's possible that this program had already been uninstalled, you want to quit it from the installed programs list?"
>press ok
>The program is still there...
>Try again the installer and fails with the same error
>Now it's stuck in an state where it cannot be installed because it's detected as already installed but at the same time it cannot be uninstalled

>it's what happens when you have the most market share
>He is unironically trying to justify this.

that's when it's not fucking crashed, i hate this shit

You being intellectually unable to maintain your machine properly does not make an operating system shit.

Who cares? Normal people use Windows 10 Pro with disabled spyfaggotry. Only autists and paranoid schizophrenics who honestly believe that CIA and NSA cares about their hentai and lolli collection use anything else. You guys are pathetic and that dev quit when he realised that this was his userbase.
