Is x265 a meme for 3rd world pajeets?

Is x265 a meme for 3rd world pajeets?

I really like the idea of downloading 10 gigs of a season instead of ~100GB x264.
I have good internet connection and speed, but downloading 100 GB of x264 is much faster than 10GB of x265, it really feels like all those HEVC peers are from suburban brazil or india. I feel like I felt for a meme. Not to mention the quality with high birate.

>single season is 100gb
nicely bloated encodes there mane

most gous don't have acceleration

Most people torrenting shows, porn and games are normies who don't even know what an encode is. They just get the one with the most peers so it's going to take YEARS for x265 to replace x264 just like it happened to DivX. Just see and there are still people sharing xvid avis to this day. It's got nothing to do with the tech, it's the people.

Wait for AV1.

Most computers in the world are using CPUs without HEVC hardware acceleration. My mom's Wal-Mart PC can't run 1080p HEVC files without shitting itself.

I'm waiting for the free and open source AV1.

>1080p 400kbps
Retarded mini shit. x265 is worse on the transparent level anyway so theres 0 point for me to use/download in it anyway.

Wait is the right word. It takes anywhere from 4 to 10 times more to encode a video compared to HEVC with similar results. You think release groups are going to spend 4 to 10 times more time encoding for a video that's a little more efficient for streaming? AV1 was made for Netflix and YouTube so they can save money, not for us.

Yes? I would, at least, for my personal encodes. My computer is on 24/7 anyway, why would it matter if it takes a bit longer to encode something I'll have forever?

x265 is made for web streaming because it doesn't preserve edges as well as x264 at high bitrates so use x264 for films.
It isn't even like x265 is meant to replace x264 it was just made for a different purpose.
Audio is more important anyway you gays

>visual medium
>audio is more important

Well audio quality is far more important than visual

But it would have no benefits for someone like you that just wants to store it and not stream it.

How do you know? AV1 isn't even finalized.

>find $2 DVD of show/movie I like that I could previously only find in xvid avi
>rip it with MakeMKV
>that massive quality difference

There is though. Often the AVI encodes are bitstarved, or use MP3 for audio.

All those retards talking about x264 and x265 as if they were video standards

oh i wasnt being sarcastic

They're just using the name of the encoding library instead of the codec. H.265 vs. x265 doesn't really matter in most circumstances. People will only be confused if you are in a context where the difference is important, like if you are comparing different encoder implementations.

mp3 for audio is an acceptable trade off if it's transparent and you are watching from your TV speakers. It's better if it's AAC. But those bits are better saved for video.

>They just get the one with the most peers

I suspect they also think more GB = better quality.
So bigger files will get more peers.

Or they think more GBs just use up more hard drive for the same movie, so they naturally choose the smaller.

>someone like you that just wants to store it and not stream it.

Maybe he'll one day want to stream it to another device like a VR headset?

But "muh grain".

A non-autistic post? On MY Sup Forums!?

only good if you want to do really low bitrates but it still looks shit.
for higher bitrates, it's no better than x264.

There is NO reason to transcode audio! EVER!

But that's true to an extent. Obviously there's a balance, but a 2 hour 2GB movie is not going to look the same as the same movie 8GB. There's a threshold and beyond that threshold you begin approaching placebo.

lolno

That totally explains why it's used for 4k blurays right? No, you're a fucking retard.

to think that the video on the left has lower bitrate than audiphool music

left looks airbrushed though.
better than macroblocking but i still would not download.
