boot both from LiveCD and try them out yourself

Ubuntu with Unity

I did
I'm asking for your opinion
I personally prefer Linux Mint because it just werks but if Debian didn't have such bad repos I would install it

ubuntu but with a non shit DE like mate or xfce

mint is forked from ubuntu which forked from debian
either one will be fine

Literally either. The biggest difference between the two is the boot screen.
Choice of DE/WM makes much more difference day to day.

Arch

LMDE? idk if it's still alive.

Arch you fucking nigger.

Debian Buster, you fucking fruit.

For a newfriend(which you are). Mint.

But mate and XFCE are both shit, the don't even support high-dpi scaling (a feature even Android and ChromeOS have!).

They do, but barely tested. Feel free to send bug reports or kindly fuck off.

How come everyone's solution on the forums for high-dpi displays is to increase the font size to make things bigger? This seems like a huge workaround for not supporting it at all

Also I should add Ubuntu Gnome and Ubuntu Unity support high-dpi displays natively and do it well.

But they don't support multiple DPIs existing in the same userland, this is a limitation of XORG tho, not the DE, so all DEs have this limitation of multiple DPIs causing huge conflicts. XORG also causes huge issues for touchscreens on linux. Thank god for wayland. Google got around this by making their own display system called Freon that is used in ChromeOS.

Gentoo

...

If either one would suit your needs fine then go with the easiest-to-use one - Mint.

stop promoting botnets, son

I like both
