Previous windows and mac UIs were designed by largely by the programmers themselves and were therefore focused on usability.
Now you have design by manager+art grad and you get interfaces that are pretty at first glance but are inconsistent and low contrast - fucking awful to actually use.

>implying design isnt driven by customers

I do webdev on the side, and every customer will say he wants it to look """modern""" (which means he wants flat/minimalistic design)

so, even if you were retarded enough and put actual effort into the projects design, the customer would be unsatisfied

this is false
tons of effort, research and extensive cultural testing went in to most oldschool UIs, where the shit you’re talking about is exactly what’s happening today; dipshit programmers with no taste just trying to check off some aesthetic boxes that confirm to their ideas of modernity
programmer-designed interfaces in the ‘80s and ‘90s were ass too, developers generally know fuck all about what makes for a good user experience

...

Wht dont we see the same modern features on developer tools? Only corporations that are run by idiots from desgin schools force these features into products. I was browsing the intel documentation on a library they support and all of their text was grey on white, the code snippets where grey on grey. I was unable to read anything on the side, but it looked good if you didnt care about the information.

does this constitute as child porn

>can still run modern Linux or BSD distros on as little as 50MB of RAM and use twm for maximum comfy
Things haven't really changed that much. You can still use Windows 2000, BeOS, classic MacOS, PPC OSX, IRIX, Solaris, etc. and they all work just like they used to. And the Lenovo laptops are still just as nice as the IBM ones if you aren't an autist about the shapes and sizes. The newer keyboards have a similar amount of travel as the old ones and they feel nice and include a backlight. The hinges are also just as sturdy as ever despite the design changes.

I would also like to take a moment to say that I think OS/2 is an absolute dumpster fire. I work for a company that maintains ATMs and PoS machines and there are companies that we contract with that haven't moved on from OS/2 after more than 20 years and one was still using Warp 3 until 2009. I've had the great honor of migrating these machines over to Arca OS, which is basically OS/2 Warp 4 with some extra kernel extensions, security patches, and a touched up UI. Trying to install packages on it is an absolute clusterfuck with the Arca Noae package manager and so I've had to spend hours on the phone with them trying to sort it out. I fucking hate OS/2 more than anything. I would rather drag my ballsack through broken glass and used needles than have to fuck around with it for one more day. The only reason why I haven't left is because I make dump trucks of shekels for my troubles.

I've used Warp 4 as a main OS and it's comfy and intuitive as fuck.
Guess the commercial layers for your shit really ruin it.

You're thinking of CDE.

>os/2
Lol.

that chick is retarded, gym equipment is filthy

So are cocks.

How the fuck would it if there is no nudity or sexual contact?
A naked guy next to a underage fully clothed girl or two kids dryhumping wouldn't even be considered CP.

To 's point,

AT&T tested 17 different configurations for number pads with real-life experiments to find the most efficient and comfortable ones: theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/08/the-17-designs-that-bell-almost-used-for-the-layout-of-telephone-buttons/279237/

Apple did a lot of early research into UI design with keyboard shortcuts versus mousing: asktog.com/TOI/toi06KeyboardVMouse1.html

>gym equipment is filthy
So are girls.

I'm still using Win XP. I'm thinking eventually I'll get a chromebook for web browsing and continue using the Win XP machine for everything else. For me "everything else" is primarily note taking with WordPad.

I've used it a tiny bit in VirtualBox at home and I didn't like it. I'm sure that it was great to have the MS-DOS and Windows program compatibility built right in and all of the UI customization options but it's not the 90s anymore. I also find the UI to be significantly less intuitive than any of the others that I've used. In the end it just comes down to my personal preferences.

If you have 2GB of RAM and a 1GHz dual core CPU then you should consider Windows 7.

>I've used it a tiny bit in VirtualBox
Yeah, it's pretty sucky with VM driver support.
A dual Pentium Pro system with a Voodoo 3, it just lovely.

>computers built to last
Ahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha

You nostalgia faggots never lived in the 90s.

>computers became outdated after 2 years
>had to constantly clean mice
>keyboards clacked loud as fuck
>barely could do anything on the internet
>multitasking on PC rarely done due to memory constraints
>blue screens. Oh god the blue screens
>anti virus programs slowed systems down to a halt
>internet totally unsecure
>monitors that strained eyes and looked like shit
>few people had internet access. Only "nerds" had computers
>porn took forever to download and cost money

I could go on.

>90's
>it industry is white people
brap. didnt read the rest of the faux nostalgia of a lazy millenial,

name a successful society that wasn't homogeneous

56%land

LOL as we literally are dying
America was 90% white in the 60's all downhill from there bud

You mean the country thats been in decline ever since the 80s?

american "white" includes scandinavs, slavs, germanics, ugro-finnics, mediterraneans, semites, arabs and sometimes berbers and turks.
