Netneutrality

Since net neutrality is ending why don't we start our own internet? Connect homemade servers w websites to each others w switches and repeaters just like some other poorer countries?

Cause it will be shit unless we put our own fiber in. It's too expensive to put our own fiber in.

In Germany there is is a project called freifunk. They are making WiFi routers and firmwares that connects to each other so a big meshed and decentralized WiFi network is created. When there are enough connections it can operate without relying on the internet

Ok calm down there, we're talking about stringing Ethernet cables across the street here not putting down fibre and making a real internet. It would be a p2p mesh network operated through minimum 150mbps switches and probably parabolic ISM band/5GHz WIFI antennas to bridge larger gaps like rivers and inlets.

It's not meant to be gigabit fibre blazing fast download a terabyte of anime in half an hour while watching hentai and streaming on Twitch levels of speed here. Just to share information, videos, pictures, and reasonably sized files without incursion of government censorship.

our internet
expectative: a free as in freedom internet
reality: save my small woman with child head porn in someone else hd

>why don't we start our own internet?

Because you'll soon discover that you are not allowed to put a cable over or under the road to the next block, and low-power wireless links are too unreliable. Poorer countries don't have this problem because nobody gives a fuck.

Do you have $400,000 per mile you plan to install this new internet?

This was widespread here a couple decades ago. But it only works well with high population density (a 500-apartment commieblock is perfect; American suburbia not so much) and comes with a lot of legal issues and gray areas (so you're SOL when there's a large company actively trying to shut it down)

Hiding the cables ez pz

How exactly are you planning to cross a 4 lane road with a cable without anyone noticing?

What if there are long range wifi antennas connecting large blocks w each other? They are very fast

Could be done with a long range wireless setup as they can send and receive like 58km away with pretty good speed

I'm getting increasingly pissy about all this. I cannot find a single fucking advantage to people to abolish net neutrality. NOT ONE FUCKING POSITIVE.

Even the fucking Nazis had some upside, even if the downside was monumentally larger. How do I benefit in any way from abolishing Net Neutrality?

we go around

RONJAs like in eastern europe.
Freifunk like in germany.
DO put down cables where there is no other option.

Combine all and apply based on the circumstances -> global Librenet in two years.

Cubans did a similar thing.

By being Comcast.

They aren't too fast if you intend to serve a lot of people. The best you can get with directional Wi-Fi nowadays is a single MCS9 stream, which is 866 Mbit/s, and with Wi-Fi overhead taken into account, you're looking at ~500 Mbit/s useful bandwidth in ideal conditions. With weather and interference from other Wi-Fi networks, you can only realistically count on a couple hundred megabits. Range is also a problem since you need a license to operate a Wi-Fi link with a power of over a couple dozen milliwatts.

This requires a license though.

I'm not too sure about licenses but even if one is needed is shouldn't be too hard to get one.

100mbs is still good enough for a beginning, technology will be faster as time goes by and a project like this doesn't begin big with thousands of users.. a word must be spread and a network needs to be realised and made with the help of others. Lets say people in CA or FL want to take my idea into reality they should start out small with just a couple college friends and by spreading the word a budget can be realised etc.
But before all this happens, everything needs to be realised and written down on paper (like licenses and legal stuff(or be hidden and illegal eh))it is possible to make a network / our own internet and other people have already done so on small scale.

I'll give my opinion on your critique of the logo

I'll criticize the criticize you do on the logo.

Let's watch the end of interwebz together guys

Around what? Physical space?

By ginormous websites taking up less control of your life.

Who cares

I'm newfag. Is Sup Forumsternet a meme?

>Since net neutrality is ending
*yawn*

/thread
best solution right here

So what are the actual changes coming with net neutrality ending?

Deport the road

>Since net neutrality is ending why don't we start our own internet?
Tor? I2P? Freenet?

not a single mention of Substratum?

The government will just say we are a pedophilia ring (which probably will be true knowing you guys) and shut everything down

I will fap to it.

you should know how slow tor is and that it can be seen that if someone in your network is using tor or not

What the fuck do you think is going to happen here? Nothing will change except that fucking porntube sites will have to pay more money to host their garbage.

>net neutrality
>regurgitating Obama propaganda

Read the bill, retard.

This is just greedy and jewy companies like Google and Reddit gaslighting people to believe that the internet will somehow end.

Imagine the post office right, people are sending regular ass letters to each other, but then Jewy Google comes along and start sending heavy ass bricks demanding that he will pay just as much money to the postal office as everyone else sending letters. It's retarded.

How can it transfer data across continents? Satellites?

I just looked it up. Still not sure how it works. Explain pls?

We'll need at least 3 more logo guys and 4 idea guys

How will SpaceX with the Internet satellites do it?

You have a much bigger fight to fight, the one to end ISP monopolies on your country.
You live in a place where an ISP can go to the local government and lobby the fuck out of em to create a law that forbids competition, and that happened on pretty much all the cities.
NN was just the bandaid.

Just ask google fiber what happens with a fucking megacorporation that tries to compete.

Already a project on here.
See Wiki is down at the usual URL but can be accessed through the onion link.

I love how you redditors don't even realise we went through this for ages and talked through every option and there are no viable options

Just goes to show you the amount of new-fags that have been infesting this site the last couple years. Its like summer never left.

You can agree though we shouldn't be charged a different rate if we're sending a letter from if we're sending photos from if we're sending tickets to a concert, right? What stops ISPs from doing exactly that?

HIDE THIS!
HIDE THIS NOW!
SO THE TROLLS WONT GET ON THEM!

>why don't we start our own internet?

Where's the free market fags? You should ask them about this.

a user can be connected to multiple nodes at a time. whichever node can serve the requested content the quickest gets used, which makes throttling of certain sites/services irrelevant

see

Our own internet, not our own overnet

>Implying those things are meant to be read

Posted this Idea in a few places but Sup Forums is probably a better place for it.

So I had this Idea, but I don't have the finances or know how to make it happen. So basically it's an automated phone service, and since everyone has unlimited calling for their cell phones, you can call this service, and what you do is you hook a speaker up to your phone from your computer that plays various tones into your phone to transmit data to the service, while the phone plays back more tones to transmit data back to your computer's microphone.
Since I believe Title 2 still applies to phone service, these calls can't be stopped or throttled, kinda like how Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis can be transmitted over a phone call and the cell companies can't do anything about it.

So basically you call this phone service, and it connects you to a modem that your computer plays dial-up tones at, while you have a microphone that feeds into a Dail-up modem program on your computer. It would be slow as well, dial-up internet but it would be a way around using ISPs infrastructure to get to an unfiltered internet.

Basically I imagine it would work similarly to the old Tandy Computer phone modems.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to fund this/ Have enough phone lines for mass use/ pitch this service to someone with the money to back it. And to make this happen, you'd have to start around now to have it up and running it time to release the software to potential users without ISPs blocking access to download links to it.

What do you guys think? Impossible?

>hook a speaker up to your phone from your computer

mfw americans would rather downgrade to shitty third world internet salad oil tier instead of trying to get a government that actually succeeds in regulating markets successfully

I wonder about free space optical transmissions for directional wireless data transfer. Repeaters could basically be an Arduino or RPi if you wanted to be fancy, a couple of tight focus laser pointers and a receiver or two. Range is easily a thousand meters or so.
Sure, line of sight is a pain in the ass but it'd be really cheap and relatively fast to set up and operate when compared to cable or fiber.

Well yeah "those gosh darn libruls haha epic kekistan #maga" sure as hell won't get the country anywhere.

The fact that this is not the focus of the thread indicates this thread is either full of ai or brainlets.
Thanks god nn was killed
