Ruby is just as fast as python at this moment in time, and comparing Ruby to PHP and Java is absolutely retarded, these people obviously have not even tried to use Ruby properly and do not understand it.
Anyone who thinks Java is anywhere near as nice to use as Ruby is mentally retarded. Java's verbosity and ridiculous conventions are completely insane and unnecessary. You know it's a bunch of bullshit when they start saying 'Java was a breath of fresh air'

the only thing that resembles a criticism is "ruby standard library classes have too many methods" which is horseshit because they are all sensible, basic stuff that programmers shouldn't have to write, and even if programmers did write them, the standard lib methods have the advantage of being implemented in C.
if you are struggling to learn how to use an Array because the 'compact' method exists then see a doctor.
