because freetard shitposting

10 ltsb just werks

Similarly, Debian testing just werks and operates at the stability of fucking iOS, which is an amazing feat considering it's a community effort. I like how it lets me use my computer however I want, whenever I want, instead of my school laptop that puts itself through a 10+ minute updating phase whenever I take it out of my drawer.

What's the point for modeling him if the model has no bulge that you can bury your noes into and sniff?

Not a freetard, but if it's as straightforward, how come I had to install drivers after the installation.

systemd

I like Linux better.
I've been using the same VM for Windows 10 since 10240 though, it's gone through two hosts now, so it's actually older than the linux distro I'm using to type this now.

Because legacy corporate 32-bit only software doesn't werk on 10

Well, if they roll out a Debian testing equivalent under the Devuan name, I might consider it. I heavily dislike rolling distributions and feel like being choked on LTS ones, so Debian testing is the only viable option for me for the foreseeable future.

Debian security fucking sucks. It doesn't even use ASLR by default in 2017. Use Ubuntu: wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Features

Debian uses AppArmor by default now, only on testing though. They are planning on rolling out Debian 10 with AppArmor by default if the testing phase is carried out seamlessly, and in my experience, it feels like that will be the case.

Why do you talk about one OS in the first line and then about a completely different one in the second?

sysvinit is still supported

Also, Ubuntu doesn't allow Turkish layout/keyboard for full-encryption so I can't use @ symbol in my password for example. This wasn't the case with Debian, which was the main reason I have settled on Debian. I have gotten comfier as I experienced the rest of the ecosystem so I never left, I only use Arch for tinkering inside a VM.

It's still embarrassing that it's so far behind. Look at Fedora: fedoraproject.org/wiki/Security_Features_Matrix

Seems like a weird bug if it actually works on Debian but not Ubuntu. You should report it.

Windows 10 is literal shit. It spies on you and there's no way to disable it, its UI is an inconsistent pile of crap, there are ads in the file manager and start menu, Cortana is a botnet built right into the OS even if it's disabled, it automatically installs crapware like Candy Crush and vulnerable password managers without your permission: twitter.com/taviso/status/941710362717470720

There is no reason not use Windows 7 if you need Windows. When it stop receiving security updates, just put it into a VM with GPU passthrough for all your gayming needs.

People always say this shit about windows 10 but i've never seen or experienced it

what crack should I use for ltsb reeeee

Windows 10 is proprietary Orwellian garbage you fucking stupid Redditors. Fuck off back to wherever you came from and DIE.

>i've never
That does not mean it isn't happening

ms toolkit

stay mad dumb freetard lmao

Good for you, but all of it is true and if you haven't seen it is because you haven't looked enough (talking about visible stuff like ads and automatically installed crapware; telemetry is transmitted on background and of course you won't notice it) or have been on the lucky side of Microsoft A/B experiments.

LTSB performance on par with 1709? Or should I stick with the latest for muh frames?

>stay mad dumb freetard lmao
Idiot.

tell me your secret.

i have reinstalled windows 10 two times because the performance decays too much (the performance is already bad from first day on fresh install). I have had a lot of problems (big and small) on windows 10 and i think windows 10 is *the worst* version of windows (even worse than 8.1, because windows 8 at least worked despite looking ugly and being hard to use).

No idea but i won't touch normal w10 because of all the bullshit it has out of the box.

And this isn't about ">muh botnet", w10 ltsb out of the box is pretty much w7 with w10's skin.

>tell me your secret.
He doesn't have one. He's just too retarded to notice anything's wrong with it.

>And this isn't about ">muh botnet", w10 ltsb out of the box is pretty much w7 with w10's skin.
Doesn't matter. Windows 7 is better but it's still Windows. Use it for gaming or some other proprietary shit and absolutely nothing else.

You tell me man, performance and stability is shut on my 2600k, since day one.

>start menu won't open
>start icons disappear or deleted ones reappear
>explorer doesnt always open
>forced updates
>lower frame rate and stability in games
>search in start doesn't work

All on a fresh install... But then again I installed it on a friend's 8700k build I did and it ran flawlessly.

>Use it for gaming or some other proprietary shit and absolutely nothing else.
I use it as my main OS precisely because it runs all my proprietary shit.

Do you just not care about being botnetted to hell for that luxury? What do you even run on it?

I don't like Linux and my hardware is backdoored anyway, the other option is macOS but i don't have an Apple device.

>and my hardware is backdoored anyway
That's some real tinfoil shit though. Your hardware may be backdoored but I wouldn't particularly worry about the NSA getting physical access to your PC, which it needs. Windows 10 on the other hand is literal spyware and will always send data back to microsoft.

>he thinks Apple is any better

>Your hardware may be backdoored but I wouldn't particularly worry about the NSA getting physical access to your PC, which it needs
Wrong! They don't need physical access at all and it's not just hardware manufacturers and intelligence agencies who have access, hackers have demonstrably found and exploited vulnerabilities in those backdoors too. Look it up.

Can you source me on that? Or what methods can they use to access the backdoors? I know about the IME vulnerabilities but I was always under the impression they still needed physical access.

Which is why people who laugh at us for using 10 year old Thinkpads with C2Ds are clueless morons.

>Windows 10 on the other hand is literal spyware and will always send data back to microsoft
I know but W7 with all the updates is pretty much the same, everything is a botnet now and the only other option would be macos which is also a botnet.

>the most straightforward and simplest
because it's rubbish
today, after half a year or so, had to boot up my win10 pc again to benchmark some new cpus I got, turned it on to check if everything was alright, then tried to shut the damn thing down, during which it gave me the most stupid blue screen with no explanations nor error codes whatsoever, now shit won't even start up at all but just keeps bringing me to the same blue screen, after hours of struggle I came to the conclusion it can only start in the safe mode probably cuz it corrupted some of its windows services files during a self update attempt, will never ever bother even getting close to a windows machine as soon as I finish testing the damn cpus tomorrow, there's your windows bloody 10.

Hackintosh. You don't need a Mac.

Linux is an option.
But yes, you're right. Fighting the botnet is a hassle and it will only get worse.

Nope, there are only a handful of W7 botnet updates which you can choose not to install, and recently Microsoft has started offering security-only updates, which all sane people have been using instead of regular updates: support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4009469/windows-7-sp1-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-update-history

theregister.co.uk/2017/05/01/intel_amt_me_vulnerability/

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Management_Engine#Security_vulnerabilities

There is much, much more if you look. Don't even get me started on the hundreds of thousands of different hardware vendors and the potential vulnerabilities (both intentional and unintentional) in their proprietary firmware.

People have no idea how bad things really are, even on Sup Forums. It's pathetic.

Not everything is a botnet you're just too lazy and completely unwilling to sacrifice your luxuries.

>he thinks he has control over what Microsoft decides to install on his machine

>you're just too lazy
Not really
>completely unwilling to sacrifice your luxuries
When the convenience and ease of use gets hindered then yeah.

I don't deny it's all messed up and there's glaring security issues, but I think it would be flawed to bend over to microshit just because your hardware is backdoored as well. Not to mention standard W10 comes with loads of bloat as well.
I could only encourage getting one of those IME disabled laptops though.

>Not really
Yes, really. By your very own admission in your very next statement:
>When the convenience and ease of use gets hindered then yeah.

The absolute fucking state of Sup Forums.

>but I think it would be flawed to bend over to microshit just because your hardware is backdoored as well.
I don't. That's my entire point. Nobody should. I don't use any it.

*any of it

What's wrong with Q10 "spying" on you? Serious question.

Oh well. The original post read
>I don't like Linux and my hardware is backdoored anyway
hence my post.

What's right with it? Serious question. And lose the quote tags on spying. That's exactly what they're doing, and more.

Just shut up. You're way out of your depth.

gross

rude

Well if you don't mind Microsoft knowing everything you do on your computer, including what you type and your browsing history, then for sure enjoy W10, nothing wrong with it.

There is nothing right nor wrong with it, so why should I care?

My point exactly. Why would anyone mind about Windows knowing your browser history or what you type? Seems like an irrational fear to me.

I'm still using Win XP. I'm thinking eventually I'll get a chromebook for web browsing and continue using the Win XP machine for everything else. For me "everything else" is primarily note taking with WordPad.

>There is nothing right nor wrong with it, so why should I care?
There is everything wrong with it. It's none of their business and it's a massive breach of users' privacy and security.

If they really can collect all of that, it’s ridiculous to think they’re storing it permanently for every Windows user. You realise that’s at least an order of magnitude more data than Google process, right?

That doesn't explain what's wrong with it. What do you have to fear from that? Will it ever harm you in any way? I don't think so.

Huge amounts of the workload is shared with third parties. They have very sophisticated data compression techniques available to them as well. They use supercomputers and incredibly advanced algorithms to analyze as much as they can. They keep what they want and discard the useless data.

>if they really can collect all of that
They can and they do. They also store your encryption keys if you use BitLocker. Haven't you read their privacy policy or how Cortana works? And no, Google probably collects more data since Android and Google services are used by more people than Windows. You seem to underestimate how cheap storage has become and how valuable data is.

That explains exactly what's wrong with it.Are you retarded? I have nothing to fear because I don't use Windows, proprietary firmware or botnetted hardware. That doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with what they're doing. What they're doing is literally criminal.

I'll ditch windows for linux the moment you'll be able to pirate games on it.

Why people struggle with most simplistic operating system like Ubuntu LTS?
It's even easier than any windows.
1. No need to browse websites for drivers (theres a GUI for that)
2. Software installation is simpler just do this:
sudo apt install

If, however you got a problem (mistype or software is named differently) you'll get a user-friendly suggestions for what you might be looking for.
3. You can update whenever you want, no forced restarts or forced updates
4. More secure
5. Become a member of elitist club

Honestly if you struggle with linux, you shouldn't be on Sup Forums.

Criminal how exactly? It's a victimless "crime". Nobody loses. I have nothing to fear nor harm, so what exactly is wrong with it?
The only situation I think it would suck is if you were a pedophile, but you are not a pedophile, right?

You'd better pick yourself a nice GNU/Linux distribution, then, because you can pirate games on it right now.

Not the guy you're replying to, but you're either a retard or a troll, either way get the fuck out.

I hate the UI and the spying and the forced updates. I need Windows 10 for work so I use the LTSB version which is tolerable but it still looks and feels like ass and there are two control panels for no goddamn reason.

Yep, Debian is rock solid. I use that on my home server. I used to use it on my desktop and laptops but I've been using Fedora since February of this year because it's bleeding edge with better QEMU support and just as stable.

This has always been a dumb argument. It depends greatly on your hardware. Some of my machines work fully out of the box with every OS and others are a mixed bag.

It does on the 32-bit version of Windows 10 LTSB. The 32-bit version still doesn't have modern features like KPP or DEP because of the massive amounts of legacy software that requires these things to be turned off. At work there's a machine in one of the back rooms that runs 32-bit Windows 10 LTSB that we used to run a few 16-bit programs from the early 90s. Government agencies are fucking retarded in that they'll bitch about installing OS updates in fear of ransomeware and stuff but they can't find a replacement for some proprietary shitware after like 20 years.

Tell me how exactly I'm wrong. Please provide an argument because what I'm saying is true. There is nothing to fear nor will they do you any harm, so why do you think it's bad?

If you're relying on deprecated software then you're the one doing something wrong.

Okay. Give me your bank details, your email accounts and social media passwords and give me all of your chat logs. Give me all of your browsing history. I'll just share them with about 57 third parties. There's no reason to worry. I won't access them. I'll just store them and pass them around to people who may or may not access them.

And no, I'm not a fucking pedophile you pleb. I just think carrying out mass surveillance for literally no reason is completely unacceptable. Are you saying Microsoft are spying on everyone to catch pedophiles now? Kill yourself, shill.

>trying this hard to justify his own use of proprietary malware
Literally nothing you've said is true. You're completely retarded.

I tried using Linux a number of times, I really did but god damn I want drivers that work and don't have shitty 50% decreases in performance.

Also for some reason I get real shitty battery life when using Linux distros while on bloatware botnet Win10 I get at least double that.

Windows doesn't have my passwords though, so what do I have to worry about?

And no, I'm saying that if you have something to hide and posting on Sup Forums, odds are you are a pedophile.

Faggot.

Prove it. Everything I said is true and you just say "no, ur wrong hurr".
Tell me ONE (1) thing that should worry me and can harm me about Window's "surveillance". You are the one accusing me of being a retard, so it should be easy for you to post just ONE (1) example.

If you think there's nothing wrong with all your computer activities (which are increasingly ALL activities) being sent to countless corporations, you essentially think privacy shouldn't exist. Privacy is an important human right, is required for a healthy democracy, and is enshrined in law in many advanced countries such as most of Europe and Japan. Have you heard of GDPR? A significant privacy-enhancing EU-wide law which will come into force in 2018 and will require big changes for many American corporations doing business there.

>And no, I'm saying that if you have something to hide and posting on Sup Forums, odds are you are a pedophile.
Weak bait. Goodbye. Enjoy your botnet.

I already have. Good bye. You get no more (You)s.

That doesn't tell me anything about why Window's "surveillance" is a bad thing. You are only telling me that "everybody thinks it's good, therefore it is", which is a fallacious argument.

Not bait, but I see you don't have a valid counter argument, so my suspicions of you being a pedophile are legit.

>Hurr durr, why it's bad to invade people private lives, hurr durr, nothing to hide nothing to fear
Imagine a search engine which can query through everyone's emails, messages, phone contacts, email contacts, every conversation, web history, every post ever made, every file ever used, pretty much everything.
Do you feel comfortable with this? Does your brain comprehend how mich power this gives?
Imagine world where you can be punished because you called someone on the internet a "nigger". Also, consider Poe's law.
BTW, NSA already has search engine like that.

That quote is a false analogy. Try to argue for the issue at hand instead.

Yes, I do feel comfortable for that. You don't? What's bothering you? Why do you have to worry? How could that ever harm you? If you can't answer those questions you are literally retarded.
So, I insist, give a good answer to the three questions I posted. That's all you need to prove that what windows is doing is bad. Not being able to do this would confirm my suspicions of you being a pedophile.

The absolute state of nu/g/.

I have been posting on Sup Forums for quite a few years actually.
Also, I would love it if you could actually offer a counter argument.

He thinks you're me now, user. The state of this fucking newfag.

Read the thread you fucking faggot. You've already been addressed.

You are both the same person to me, since neither of you has been able to prove what's wrong with windows unless you are a pedophile.

I have been posting in this thread since the whole "surveillance" stupidity started.

Not the person you're speaking with but do consider no one owes you their time to educate such an ignorant person as you on things that are just a search away

Kill yourself then.

You must be a pedophile as well! If you don't agree with Microsoft's Orwellian policies then you're a pedophile.

I have already done my research, I'm the one who's lecturing you guys now.

This os what happens when the pedophile has no arguments to justify his wrong doings.

I'm convinced you must be trolling, but I'll give you a last reply.

Imagine you're making a product that directly competes with Microsoft. They can use your data to leverage against you (sabotaging, copying...).

Imagine you're trying to get elected to some parliament but your porn viewing records are leaked after the rival party bribes some third-party that got your browsing data and they disclose it, making you look like a pervert and losing votes.

Imagine you're investigating government corruption or corporate crimes but your investigation records, or your sources, get leaked and you or they are attacked or threatened, or your employer is persuaded to fire you.

Imagine you're doing online banking and your bank passwords are transmitted to some third-party that lets them unsecured on some cloud instance (happened countless times, even for classified government information).

Imagine you're filming some sex act of yourself or some partner and the video gets leaked.

Imagine you're searching for abortion clinics and your search queries go to some third-party that maintains a public "shaming list" of people who might have aborted, with their names and addresses.

Imagine you're searching for some disease and the fact that you've searched about it gets transmitted to healthcare insurance providers, who now charge you a higher rate or refuse to offer you insurance.

Imagine you're writing a book and the manuscript gets leaked to a third party who steals it and publishes it before you.

Imagine Microsoft starts a service which charges people to let them see what other people running Windows are doing.

Now please kill yourself.

>Jet.OLEDB.4.0

I'm not, but my company is, I sure as shit am not going to pay or rewrite a huge piece of software that runs basically everything.

It's just plain wrong before it even escalates anywhere near potential problems such as those.

And by my company I meant the company I work for, not actually MY company

>Simplest

>>>>>>>TWO CONTROL PANELS

1) That's illegal and you can sue Microsoft for that and demand a huge monetary compensation
2) It's the candidate's fault. If people don't want to vote for a pervert, then they should know they could have voted for the pervert.
3) That has nothing to do with privacy. They could threaten you regardless once you publish the results of government corruption.
4) Microsoft does not store passwords so that's not a valid argument.
5) No such thing has ever happened due to Microsoft's "surveillance"
6) If you don't want to get shamed for aborting, then don't abort
7) Has never happened due to Microsoft's "surveillance"
8) Same as 7)
9) Never going to happen

On top of that, I would bet a big sum of money that none of those scenarios would ever apply to you, so again, your only reason to care so much about yore privacy is because you are a pedophile.

>4) Microsoft does not store passwords so that's not a valid argument.
How do you know?
