How much is too much?

I save a lot of images. If I made subfolders for absolutely everything I'd probably never find them all. How do you do it?

I do the same thing, but i think i dont have enough folders like you. Sometimes i download an image twice because i dont look at it (in greentext threads i just download them and read them later)but thats fine you just sort your images by file size and look if you see the same thumbnail. Also sometimes i download an image and i dont know where to put it

Sorry for the spicrunes.

>How do you do it?
Everything in one folder + filenames + luck

Write yourself a script, you pleb. Are you on Sup Forums or what?
Jeez Louis

hydrus network

post the thighs from the cute folder

what would I even write a script for? 'FIND ALL IMAGES WITH CUTE GIRLS'

here you go friend

Stop using folders and start tagging your shit.

I have like 400gb of booru pics and I still feel like a little baby.

Could be worse, you are not trying to re-organize these and rename their files every few months

Hydrus

How manny tags would that take?
>Konosuba
>Megumin
>Megumeme
>Anime
>Waifu
>Mi-24
>k
>pol
>sg
>Shitposting
>Drawing
>Meme
>Russia
>War

is this xp? yikes

Booru style detailed tags are too high maintenance and don't provide much value unless you have hundreds of thousands of images. Stick to collections like you're doing now, but use a program with a database so an image can be a member of multiple collections. Besides the sort of collections you have now, make collections for date of acquisition and point of origin (e.g. collections for Sup Forums broadly and Sup Forums in particular). Those two combined with your other more subjective collections should probably be enough to narrow down any query to a reasonable number of images to sift through.

one big folder, all items get named so I can search for them quickly
9GB, 14515 files, 0 folders.

as an aside, is there a file manager on Linux that doesn't take several seconds to open a folder with that many files
on windows, it's basically instant

BASH

Finder should do

I use Google photos and have a massive album. Then I can just search through my shit. Because it's 2018 and we have object recognition neural nets you faggots.

Even when you have tons of images, tagging everything yourself and maintaining those tags seems like a lot of work for only one user
Do you really remember all those filenames? Or do you use tags to narrow your search down?

>what would I even write a script for? 'FIND ALL IMAGES WITH CUTE GIRLS'
yes? get to work faggot

post this
you must have it in there

Once you build up a nice tag database, you only have to create a new tag once and that's it. Most viewers will even let you drag and drop either the multiple tags and or images onto the other so its not that hard to do.
>save a new image
>drag tag or tags over new image
>done
Need to find new image
>click the number of tag or tags
>done
In the long run you're just shooting yourself in the foot relying on different folders.

Detailed tags aren't really necessary and yeah you'd be going overboard doing it that way. Personal tagging is ment for YOU and You alone if you want them to be as in you can make whatever the fuck you want. Everyone has their own system so you don't need all those extra tags like you see in the boorus. You can make really simple tags ment for you and still have a nicely organized folder for fast searching.

So something like
>Girls und PANZER
>Yukari Akiyama
>Orarai Girls High School
>Angler Team
>a
>pol
>Erwin Rommel
>NSDAP
>k
>World War II
>Field Marshal
>Military Uniform
>his
>Drawing
>Meme
Work good for personal use? Or are these too manny tags and will come to bite me in the ass one day?

gib me link ploxs

A bit too many for me. The only time you should use detailed or that many tags like those is if you have hundred or thousands of say a series tag like "Girls und PANZER" that you know you can't keep up with. For me personaly I can recognize maybe close to 100-200 of my tagged images from some kind of show, so I'd be able to find any /k/ related or meme related tags pretty easily without needing them to be tagged. You can tag them that way if your collection of that tag starts to grow. Basically you just want to try to avoid having only 1 tag being used for only 1 image, type thing.

Also I make sure to put something like "series:Girls und PANZER" to know its from a show(same for games, books, ect.) or "character:Yukari Akiyama" to know its a character(I forgot what you call those). You can even search for "series:" and your viewer will bring up everything that's from a series. They are sort of like a base for your tags, so like "war:World War I" and "war:World War II", then you can just search for the term "war:" and you'll get everything war related. That's just an example, pic related in another example if you still don't get what I mean.

Also not saying you don't need those tags you have like "meme" and such, everyone has their own way of identifying images. Just use tags you know have a lot of images similar to them. When you start getting into tagging you tend to come up with your own system of doing things

Even if you're reorganizing them all the time, thats still only 73 items, plus youll remember them better from fucking with them so much. Me im like a memory packrat, I have trouble letting go. If I dont delete my camera photos before they get too old, those 'slightly different angle' pictures will become permanent fixtures in my hard drive.

This is probably exactly what I need to do. There's a lot of images that can fit into multiple categories but wont always be a good idea to have there. Like putting lewd hunters in my monster hunter thread folder. Anything with enough nudity to get me banned goes into the too lewd folder. Are they any image programs you can recommend on windows that have a database? I typically just use irfranview for everything. I like simplicity.

>FIND ALL IMAGES WITH CUTE GIRLS
You can, you know. Sky is the limit.

>avoid having only 1 tag being used for only one image
You are very wise. Basically ensures you're seeing your images often enough through other queries to remember they exist.

>Do you really remember all those filenames?
nope
>Or do you use tags to narrow your search down?
usually they'll have face in the name for reaction faces, or story or the board name for Sup Forums screenshots or whatever
it's really easy
a proper tagging system would be better, but this just works

I don't, but I have this.

been meaning to zip my folder up for ages now and post it somewhere
but I can't be arsed to go through the effort

>"Waifus"
>Megaman
Same, OP.. Same.

It's always a hard choice of saving the best images, or everything in between.

A lot of viewers suck even paid ones sadly, atleast on Windows. Its like barly few can make good one. I know we shit on windows and microsoft a lot but they can make some pretty damn good image viewers. For win7(and 8 I think too), I know they had Window Photo Gallery(Live Photo Gallery for the older releases) and that thing was pretty fucking fast even on old machines. The only down side is it didn't/doesn't support newer image formats and I think it ended support in 2012. I wouldn't be surprised if Win10 has something better. There's XnViewMP but when I tried it, it was slow as balls when you have a ton of images in one folder.

Then there's Hydrus, that programs was made for people who hord a lot of images. It does pretty much every fucking thing, even has its own booru downloader and a bunch of ways for auto tagging. Biggest down side is it's runs heavenly on python(if that annoys you) and takes awhile to understand it, you'll be reading the help section 30 times over before you get the hang of it. On the plus side the dev is really passionate about the program and updates it every week.

Lots of people here recommend Hydrus, but I don't know a whole lot about it other than that it's got botnet-like features to share your tags. XnView is a popular choice, it uses SQLite and has a nice UI, but I've found it's possible to put the database in an inconsistent state. Personally, I use an old version of ThumbsPlus with SQL Server LocalDB over ODBC. It doesn't support Unicode, and the interface isn't great (no scripting, and the built in viewer sucks by modern standards), but the database functionality seems solid. Another possibility is something like FenrirFS that isn't a dedicated photo database per se, but can still tag files.

One thing to be aware of is the database technology in use. I imagine with Photo Gallery, Microsoft probably used ESE or something, which would tend to lock you in. Whereas with something like XnView that uses SQLite, you can export your data pretty easily.

>Discovered hydrus
>Downloaded all of one artist's drawings off danbooru and pixiv
>Also scrapped a thread on /c/
Hydrus is comfy.

If Hydrus has network features that could be harmful, can't they just be blocked through the firewall?

Get on my level. I have a bash script which scrapes boorus for image tags and then sorts the images into folders by series.

Write a crawler that recursively indexes the pictures based on metadata. Dump it into an elasticsearch instance for querying.

>other than that it's got botnet-like features to share your tags
You have to manually set this up though, basically you can turn your clent into your own personal tagging server. I've never used it myself but from what I'm understanding. You can set up hydrus to let other people download tags so they don't have to if they have the same image base off the image hash. In order for other people to download from your server they have to have a key, which is like a long serial of letters and numbers so you have to actually give this out. You can also set it up to allow other people to tag in your server, so you and a small group of people can share and update your tags.

I rename every picture with space separated tags, then I simply use windows search like I would on some kind of booru. It supports wildcards, boolean operations, grouping, file attributes.

The best part is that it works in the file picker.

I could see this working, but for it to be as convenient as dedicated software, you'd need to make little batch files to add or remove tags from a set of files dropped on them.

Do you not use tags?

>pixiv
How do you get Hydrus to work for pixiv, it always skips the manga for me? It'd be nice if it can sort them properly too.

thats your image folder hello newfriend :^)

Yeah, I want to update to a newer OS but I'm too lazy.
I'll probably upload a zip after I finish organizing my collection of reaction faces.
That's a lot of anime.

hydrus

im only complaint is that it simply does not search as fast as you would expect a booru site to search files.

if it could retrieve results in

do you got 7 million pics?

one image is too much
>hehe that's a funny one, I think I'll save that and maybe 2 years down the line I can post it to my anonymous online friend simulator

>7million

>Not having 3tb worth of porn
It's like you expect the internet outlast you

Oh gosh have you thought about AA?

not just pics but mp4/webms too

it's really not that big yet.

>thats still only 73 items
Shitposting has:
>a, which is divided into a few franchises that themselves are spited between characters and factions (That's why I am very specific in 's tags)
>pol; deferent ideologies have their own memes and folders. Things like fashwave and mutt memes are getting too numerous to manage in only one folder
>g. Folders for desktops I like, battle stations, any photo I can find of that Illya user who posts on the Screenfetch threads)
>General purpouse shitposting has manny folders for copypastas, pepes, gondolas and spurdos
And more boards

A E S T H E T I C S is a lot more straight forward

I am interested in tags because I have had problems with some images; should an army spurdo shooting at soviets go to the Spurdo folder? the pol one? maybe k?
What I have being doing so far is to create a hierarchy, with things like anime, pepes and spurdos on the bottom and more specialized memes on top. Something like a Spurdo dick goes into a Spurdo folder inside General Purpouse Shitposting. But a Nazi spurdo, or an army spurdo go to the pol and k folders respectably. This way a smug anime girl and a sad anime girl go to the same "a" folder, but a smug nazi anime girl and a Linux compiling anime girl go to different folders
What do you want?

What OS is that

Unironically Gentoo. You can get that same look by just using the greybird theme on any distro running XFCE though.

the internet will outlast me

still wish I hadn't deleted my porn folder from when I was a teen
but then again, I lost my shit again a few years ago because my porn was the only thing I didn't backup

How am I doing?
(is hidden on my desktop, pretty stupid considering that I have nothing there but that lone folder)

Seems like they have good intentions with that then. Its probably safe, but even if its not at least it can be made safe.

I'll never understand how you guys can be into ponylewds. I've fapped to my fair share of monstergirls, but they're at least largely humanoid. When things might as well just be an animal I become disgusted.

No but I should probably start.

That's my phone's image folder

My train of thought is more like,
>I laughed at this and want to laugh again
>Im going to fap to this at a later date
>this image has a good atmosphere

I don't really save anything from Sup Forums besides information I want to read later. And maybe a couple of images that made me laugh, pic related

>I've fapped to my fair share of monstergirls, but they're at least largely humanoid.
Initially it's more about the familiarity with the characters you fap to. Then it's about the aesthetics. Then you simply can't go back. Recently I tried fapping to human porn again after six years of pony porn. One of the first pics was the rear view, and I immediately though "where's the tail?" I got so weirded out by that that I closed the tab.

nice try

I remember that thread, even the Poo that posted cp
Have you tried Jesus?

>fapping to Jesus
I'm not THAT degenerate.

Let technowizards take care of it for you. I found out that naming just some files with keyword will give you results for similar images in Windows 10 search.

pic related

It's a slippery slope I guess. Thankfully for me interest in a given character only goes on so long save for a few I really like, and even then I need a steady supply of good quality art to keep me going. To each their own though.

>castlevania

so, do you still live with your parents

That's freaky, how is it determining the similarities? Colours of the thumbnail? Pixel colour groupings?

>Face recognition
Oh...
>HardDrive at 99%
>Cortana shows up
>"user, your disk is almost full, maybe it time to manage your files [y/n]"
>y
>"Scanning for duplicates"
>"Scanning complete"
>"A-user, why do you have that manny pictures of the known German Dictator Adolf Hitler and of Japanese cartoon girls with the NSDAP insignia? I am calling the police!"

Same way internet search gives pics related even without knowing name or label for most of the stuff. Integrated local Bing is my guess. And this is cool as hell.

What does liking the Castlevania series have to do with living with parents? No, I've been living with my girlfriend for 10 years.

my ipad’s AI recognized someone weird (pic related), I didn’t recognize it at first (pic related is the folder it created)

I have everything on a folder named "Memes", I put everything there everything and I classify them into subfolders, as a rule I don't make more than two folder levels.

then I opened it and saw pic related

post mouse_clicks

Welcome to my phone, population: Emperador Iturbide I, Emperador Maximiliano I, Porfirio Díaz, Wojak, me and now YOU

Post japanese tree climbing, I'm intrigued.

7/10 hiding. Smaller than my anthro furry folder

kek

I don't save anything, all my important info is airgapped and I regularly delete entire downloads folder if it gets too big and format all my pc's regularly when I feel like it
This has cost me around 1k in buttcoin but IDGAF

>no uploads ITT
You datahoarding faggots are all the same. God forbid you actually upload the folder.

yande.re
danbooru.donmai.us/
There you go, you have my folder.

jesus sometimes i feel old, im on this cancer site since 2005. i saved every image i saw on any of boards i've visited, and i think during 2006 - 2010 i was here daily for few hours.

Actually keked hard

are you in school and studying German?

that's cute

here you go

Holy shit nice dude.

I don't. It's just an unordered 4gb mess of images and webbums.

thats a screen of whole hard disk you fag. Here, have my '1.72tb of pictures' . Let me connect my HDD with serials and i'll show you my 7TB of pictures.

no, that's just a screen of animu/western porn

Ah ok, makes sense. Pictures here however shows the amount of pictures from imageboards saved, so you might want to upload new shot.

that's exactly what i did

Start thinking about a proper naming convention for your image files.

I personally use Adobe Lightroom (lol) to catalog 65k images i have saved over the decades.

I individually save all my images with unique names and categorize them by source material. I have folders for all anime that I have several images of, and a miscellaneous folder for not-so-frequent source materials, but I still name the file with the source material and a description, mostly including easily-searchable tags. I easily have thousands of images.

nobody is about to dump 100GB+ to some random faggot that'll probably just delete it 2 months later.

Just admit you assign value to your "special" collection like some librarian or archivist who doesn't want to break up or compromise the set. You won't.

well, i can UL it. the question is: can't you just RIP an imageboard by yourself?

like it is a bad thing you idiot. If someone spent shitload of time hoarding those pictures, why he should make life easier for some newfag that want everything spoonfeed?

I'd merge anime pictures with my collection and run dupeguru over it to weed out all duplicates.

I almost shared my 12gb anime picture collection via Mega just now, but realized I haven't vetted it to make absolutely sure it doesn't have stray pictures giving away my identity, so there is that too.

BUT I am willing to trade requested anime pics for pic related.

Hoarding is a mental disorder. One day, if you're lucky, you'll know freedom.
