Sure, but you also have to take into account the amount of money we are spending of foreign products we don't need, and subsidies in jobs we can't compete with because of our geographical size.
Notice how the fastest developing countries are in close proximity to the London/Paris/Berlin triangle.
We didn't use to rely on trade and tourism alone, and even if corruption did fuck us over, we are now in a position where we can't get out of.

But there isn't. There are fishing quotas.
We used to be able to fish to fill our demand, but since we eat a ton of fish, we were competing proportionall too hard against Spain for example, and are now forced to buy fish from Spain, which is bigger, and can get it for cheaper.
This absolutely kills our fishing industry.
There was demand, but forced import quotas are fucking us over.
Since we've been sucked dry we can't leave without spending 30 years building it all back up, and even then we'd be competing against a giant conglomerate that is the EU, who would STILL fuck us over, so Departugal is off the table as well.
Add to that the shitty left-wing government that's spending the little we have in bullshit shit and nepotism, and we can't even claim to be slowly rising or stagnating.

Ireland voted no to the lisbon treaty so a year later they brought the same referendum out again and if we voted no again we would have just got it again until we voted yes.
That is not democracy. Ireland is not the only country to suffer from this, other countries had the EU and the Eurozone forced on them after voting no.

It's the opposite. Since there's almost no anti-EU sentiment, Germany can abuse those countries. But countries more rebellious nations zealous of their autonomy and traditions (like Poland) are kept well fed and content to prevent them from causing trouble.

Portuguese have no entrepreneur spirit at all. They don't understand the "spend money to make money" idea. Only the "borrow money to spend it" idea.
Before the European Union, Portugal's economy was based on fisheries and farming. Europe actually tried to stimulate the growth of other industries in exchange for us accepting the said quotas. We burn our ships, we took their money, and then spent it all on stupid stuff.
Though it's also to blame Portuguese government who expected a nation of farmers and fishermen to suddenly start industries that were already mastered by other European countries, it's also fault of the Portuguese that couldn't adapt.
And we wouldn't be able to adapt either way, but at least inside the EU, we grew up pretty well instead of Cuba tier upringing.

That just means people spend 40+ hours per week IN their jobs, doesn't mean they're necessarily being efficient or productive.
Equating time with efficiency or productivity is wrong. In fact, working more hours and still not being able to reach efficiency or productivity levels of other countries that work less hours reveals there's a clear problem in the work, not the time.

Portugal once had a lead in producing and exporting Arcebuses.

Also Portugal was good in building ships, and then it started to suck.
Also I read from a Portuguese historian that in late mediavel times it it was harder to cheat on taxes or to sell stuff on behind the fiscus back than today.

The whole countrie is clientelistic. Every one wants to work at state financed institutions, no one wants to work in the private sector, no one wants to pay taxes.
But the street should be nice, the subventions high, the loans of state servants generous....
That can only work with a limiless creditline...for some time...until it crashes.
