Memes aside, in 2018 the desktop is only relevant to gaming and professional work. Both of which are and will continue to be comfortably covered by Windows and macOS.
So no. It will never be the year of the Linux desktop.

>professional work
What does this mean because I do monte carlo simulations for free gas dynamics and most of what I use, commercially and privately developed, only works on linux.

why is mint so popular for people that dont get paid to use linux for a living?

I meant the most common professional work. Things like audio, video, office, etc.

>I do monte carlo simulations for free gas dynamics
You and how many others? This work isn't going to bring about the year of the linux desktop.

too me mint is fucking garbage, this is coming from an ubuntu user.

Me and probably millions of others who use CART3D or other CFD and particle dynamics simulations. Also isn't most video work done in linux these days? Disney and pixar contribute to the kernel I think. Audio and office work I understand, linux is trash for that.

Point taken.
Regardless, I don't think we'll ever see Linux at the forefront of the desktop.

Yes in the form of Chromebooks.

...

All my IDE’s for C++ crash on Ubuntu, I might go back to windows.

I recently switched from Linux to Windows with the Linux subsystem.

I'm surprisingly comfortable with my decision.

You've failed user
(though I see where you're coming from)

> be OP
> I wanna be a linux master xdddd!
> Well, I really like Windows
> hmmm
> Oh cool, I found this Linux distro that looks and spies on me just like windows!!!
> installs linux mint

Just use a fucking text editor like everyone else on loonuuuiux

>not being able to use both
so these are the salty tears of a Windows user, wow....

>he doesn't use vim
Go back to windows you retarded chicken shit fuck boy!

It will never be the year of the Linux desktop, since Linux is just a kernel, found in Android, GNU/Linux, etc.

because it's shipped with propietary drivers/codecs so linux newcomers won't struggle searching and installing them

It's not gnome and

>professional work
>macOS

Retard alert.

God no. I don't think this will happen and I've used Linux as my workstation OS for the list 15 years.

no get over yourself. if it ever will, it won't be for years to come

that's a lot to root for, given that the desktop is dying

do you really want the average windows user to use your favorite OS?

Because it's the easiest transition from windows to linux.

to me ubuntu is fucking garbage, this is coming from an mint user.

OBSESSED

here, take a look at this, retard

>the state of linux in 2017

for 20 years audio work was only viable on macOS...
