Where did the billions of dollars go?
Where did the billions of dollars go?
VR>AR
Why are AR headsets expensive? They seem to be interested in only the enterprise market, only. I hope, if these guys release their headset for CONSUMERS, then it will be very inexpensive.
>Google Glass
Only for enterprise
>Hololens
For Devs and currently costs a few thousand and I assume that the final version will be expensive
There are a few other headsets you can find on Amazon, but they're also expensive. I know I'm a hypocrite for not buying something because it is expensive, when I'm a shill for VR, but VR is nowhere near the price of these AR headsets.
How do current AR headsets work? Do they project the image directly into your eyes like the Google Glass did? Can they cover your entire vision? Are the objects you see translucent?
>ROUND LENSES
KEK SHIT DESIGN WOULDNT BE CAUGHT DEAD WEARING THESE EVEN FOR A MINUTE
ALL VR ON YOUR FACE LOOKS HILARIOUSLY GAY, AND AR IS DUMB
GOOGLE GLASS WAS PASSABLE ONLY CUS IT WAS TINY BUT IT HAS SHIT FOR SENSORS, HOLOLENS IS BEST AR LARGELY CUS IT DOESNT HAVE FAGGOT ROUND LENSES LMAO
You can watch videos of Google Glass in action. For Google Glass, you have a prism on one eye, and you look at the prism to see a transparent image. You can listen to music, watch a video, post pictures you took with Google Glass online, or ask, Google Now a question like, "How old was Adolf Hitler".
You can see perfectly fine with AR headsets, however they seem to be too new and expensive for a dev kit, even though VR dev kits were nowhere near expensive.
Here is a video of Google Glass in action
youtube.com
Spoiler: It is a video about domestic violence.
>Capslock is cruise control for cool
Yeah I've seen videos like this but it doesn't actually show what the user sees. Can this technology produce objects that seem solid in your vision and not translucent?
With the Hololens, I assume that is the case. With augmented reality, you'll be able to create digital furniture for a brand new apartment, and look at the furniture being displayed in your house before you decide to buy. There are a few, not a lot, but a few that are appearing on the market, but they're more expensive than VR.
I want futuristic technology like AR headsets, but we can't get them yet. We have to wait a year or two before they might be affordable like how VR is affordable today.
google glass is an awesome idea it was either ahead of it's time or like you said just way too expensive. Hopefully they make a new model a few years down the road
