this one is good.

How independent are the subdivisions of other federations? US States can make their own laws, including criminal laws. Are other federations like that?

they're joined by tyranny, of course they'll go wrong

awful and corrupt, especially Terran and Klingon consuls

Our states have their own mini constitutions and can regulate their police forces however they like
But their laws cant go against the country´s constitution
Also, they cant have militias the only armed force in the country is owned by the federation

Is half of Switzerland a federation but not the other half? Or is that blue between Switzerland and Austria meant to be Liechtenstein?

Interesting. In the US state laws also cannot violate the US Constitution, but they do have power over what criminal penalties to impose (which is why stuff like the death penalty and post-incarceration stuff are decided at the state level), and they have their own taxes on top of the federal tax rates. Is it like that in Mexico?

Yes its lichtenstein. They are Principality with some small states or shit

>Whiteland
>federation

Ayy lmoa

Romulans pls go

Sort of, states cant create punishments but they can choose the one they see fit, but if its a federal crime, its ruled by the federation, and im not sure, but i think that no, the only taxes are charged in a federal level, and then the budged is given to each state by its needs or contributions, thats a reason why many states hate Mexico City

butthurt provinciano

Interesting. I know that Criminal Law is a federal matter in Canada, and I'd like to know more from other federations.

Bump, I'm interested in this.

Yes, our system is basically a carbon copy of yours, eeven our official name is technically the United Mexican States, congress never gets around to changing it despite it being an embarrassment and something that gets brought up frequently. Every state gets their criminal code and commerce and civil laws although in other than procedural matters there really is much less in the way of variation compared to the US. States can levy taxes but for things other than property or vehicular they tend to leave that to the Federal government which is their main source of revenue. Pretty much the same deal, governors and a state congress, municipios insteadof counties which are technically more independent than your on paper but de facto allow for less imput from the public and rarely elect officials other than the local executive. Things are changing in some states tho, Mexico City used to be like DC but it's getting it's own constitution now.

>uneducated porteño

it's your fault if your province sucks btw

>Mexico City used to be like DC but it's getting it's own constitution now.
Nice. DC also has some level of home rule nowadays, but that's given by Congress so it's not much, and residents can vote for President since the 1970s. The only thing DC residents don't have that states do are a constitution and voting Congressmen.

Rights to certain stuff such as land, timber license, culture as well as their own sharia law.
We have 2 court system and sharia court is state matter while secular is federal. States can do their own thing as long as the sharia law is limited to max 2 years prison or less since beyond that is automatically secular court territory and non muslim goes to the secular court by default.

Hmm, quite interesting.

In Malaysia, each state has it's own Sultan/Governor, it's own parliament and in the case of Sabah and Sarawak, it's own Immigration Dept. Peninsular Malaysians need a work visa to work in Sabah and Sarawak but not vice versa. Sabah and Sarawak also has its own courts system. All of the Sultans take turns being elected to become the Agong (Supreme Ruler aka"King" of Malaysia every 5 years. The southern state of Johor (why is it always the south) even has its own Army. All land resources belong to the individual states. All sea resources belong to the Federation. International treaties and the mililitary belong to the Federation.

This dual courts system is due to State's rights. During the British colonization, the powers of Sultans were stripped except pertaining religious and traditional customs. The shariah courts falls under this category and hence the absolute right of the Sultans. When the Federation was formed, this was carried over. This situation was challenged multiple times but the States right is sacrosanct.

To some extent (immigration, particularly) that's even more state's rights than the US. And I can understand

Spain is a federation in everything but name.

How so?

If Spain is a federation, UK is one too

>why is it always the south
That's what you get for hanging out with Bugis pirates in Riau for too long.
>All of the Sultans take turns being elected to become the Agong
Except for poor Sultan Kiram.

US, Australia, Switzerland, Canada, Austria and Germany.
