What does your home nas/server look like Sup Forums?
What does your home nas/server look like Sup Forums?
This is when I was first setting it up, so its kinda messy. I've since cleaned it up.
stay mad normies
Why would one want a personal NAS? What's the point?
>what's the point
where else are you going to store all your cute anime girl images?
Lol xenserver.
Enjoy your soon to be nerfed hypervisor
...
it's changed a bit since then, no up to date pics that aren't a blurry mess tho
Quiet, uses fuck all power and streams all my movies/jewish propaganda to my TV
>implying i keep my animu degeneracy on a networkable device.
...
looks like mine, but only one
No pic because I'm lazy and it looks like shit.
Setup:
>raspberry pi 2+
>1TB external HDD
>external wifi adapter
>webcamera for top security
>externally powered usb hub (soon)
it fucking sucks compared to this shit here, but hey, its home-made
webcamera for when your house gets raided by police for cp and you need a heads up?
duh oc
>not adding the self destruct
No, but it might be a good idea to write a script for that case, thanks user! Always giving a helpful hand
not that guy but i have 24TB of HDDs in my pc case specifically dedicated for sharing and just share the files to other devices over my home network ...not entirely sure why it makes more sense to take those drives out and put them in a separate case, it's just another thing to build and maintain.
>self destruct tied to when bitcoin crashes again since you will have an hero'd
not my pic but looks like this
its home-made
yes, you plugged some shit into some other stuff
congrats user
What do you use yours for? Do you run Windows Server?
reminder that if you use windows server at home you deserve nothing but the rope
it's not this bright IRL but it feels like it
someday I'll slap a resistor on that fucker
nice lens flare

this is unedited
with a powered disk attached

Hi Nathan.
...
You fucking n-word lmao. That's retarded.
That metal rack is gonna fuck with the signal from those antennas...
You a nig nog or something?
Would like to see updated stuff though... whenever you get the chance.
just gimme meiling and yuyuko
I need to set up proper network storage, right now i just have a media computer with a decent amount of storage but im too lazy to get it set up, also not sure how i should / want to do it.
Pleb-tier: buy a router with a usb port and connect an external hard drive to it
Normie-tier: grab an old laptop and turn on OS built-in filesharing
Poweruser-tier: buy a NAS and a couple of hard drives
Autism-tier: buy an enterprise-grade server and run it in your bedroom closet
I was leaning towards just getting all new drives and getting a NAS and have proper RAID set up i just dont feel like spending the money particularly.
What are some good NAS to get if i do decide to do this?
>implying i'm not autism-tier and have a full rack going full blast
Ah, well i have to say i would much rather have that but it's not worth the extra space (and electricity). Guess ill just find a NAS from WD or something on Amazon
This case with a asus motherboard with a j1800, 4gb ram, 2x3tb wd red and debian 8.

3 x HP Microservers (storage)
2 x Z400s (hypervisor)
4 x Optiplex 990s (workstations & Hypervisors)
1 x Promise NAS
Got most of it cheap on ebay over time, mostly use it for home lab experimental stuff. Somewhere on the low power kit is a plex/sickbeard/transmission/emby/pfsense/sabnzbd hairball that does general house stuff.
>stay mad normies
You can't just be hapy or pleased with what you have? You have to rub the noses of others in it when you post your pic?
Fucking stupid arsed kid/ Grow up.
I never understood why so many people own their own servers, do all of you really run websites?
If so, what kind of website do you run,
kinda curious what types of sites Sup Forums runs
Netgear r7500v2 router with an Arris SB6141 modem.
Not sure what my parents pay for but right now I get 240 down, 11 up, Comcast in the greater seattle area.
The netgear will just drop WIFI all the time. And when it goes down, it's down until you reset the router.
I've tried updating to the newest firmware. I'm home from college right now trying to fix their internet.
Looks like r7500v2 have pretty shitty reviews online and the WIFI dropping is a common issue. Some people fixed it by rolling back to an old firmware (which would introduce security flaws, and command injection vulns)
I have a nice high end netgear modem I can let them use. Do you think that would fix it?
1. Roll back router firmware to outdated but working version
2. Try new, high end, matching netgear router I have
3. Return the piece of shit netgear router, but what would I replace it with?
>buy wall mount cabinet
>put it on a shelf
???????
>never understood why so many people own their own servers, do all of you really run websites?
Nope, use it for storage, streaming, and backup. I could use a regular portable hard drive if it was only storage and backup, but I need a little extra for streaming throughout my house
But mine's uncolored aluminum
I understand storage and backup, but why streaming?
>he thinks servers are only good for running websites
>work at place
>place has stuff that falls out of warranty
>consumer stuff is better
>don't even want it for free
I don't know what possesses people like you to take that crap. It's garbage.
Muh big bad esxi host was great 5 years ago but now it's a 1200w paperweight.
aye, I've got to pull the pi cluster out today to repair my fucked up attempt to move rootfs to usb flash drive so I'll maybe take a pic then.
Its just a netbook that sits in a corner
Based
fuck off fat pedo weeaboo neckbeard scum
Nice to see another person with the same idea as i had about putting a tape drive in one of those g7 microservers.
Do those ibm ones not fit far enough back to be flush with the face? The hp/quantum one that i use does, bit cozy granted.
...
why do you even need that?
not your personal tech support. WTF not even the right thread. Try the stupid questions general.
A bunch of shitty J1900 Celerons and an ancient Atom? How am I supposed to be impressed?
J1900's don't even have AES acceleration.
At least use the Braswell Celerons.
The point of a NAS is that it, theoretically, uses less energy than your main rig, and it could always be on.
Once you set it up, there's no real maintenance.
>using celerons ever
if its not Xeon it has no place in this thread
Don't listen to everyone else user, I think your server is cute :3
Which HDD size provides now best price pet TB?
Last time I've compared prices it was 3TB.
its still 3tb
*click*
>desktop with a mess of virtual machines
>desktop is server running shit like samba and firewall shit
>second sub network is slave to firewall rules
>ran out of 3.5 bays so took another old computer, filled it full of drives, set up samba, fstab mount samba on first computer, point first computers samba to second sambas mount point
>pokeface.jpg
Im still getting hdd transfer speeds so it worked out fine in the end.
A BT hub, so you're in the same country as me... i feel dirty now i know that you are that close
Which model do you have?
How weird is the conversation whenever your meters get checked?
Not him, but you can store all your media on your server and watch it on any device
Doesn't bother me at all, I'm a cheery soul so I chat away to them. Not that they come anymore since we have a smart meter now
Getting it installed was a good excuse to tidy things

house fire waiting to happen
Feels bad man, might have been cool 10 years ago.
A server is a server, Xeons and Celerons both have their places.
10 years ago it was more like this
DS212j, it's about 5-6 years old now.
>Raspberry Pis in a NAS is something to brag about
You do realize those only do 100Mb/s on their ethernet port, right? Even less if you have USB devices attached, as it's controlled by the USB bus. Only way to get it faster is to use an overpriced USB ethernet dongle, which will max it out at an unstable 250~Mb/s.
i have literally inputted 240v straight into an rpi for a few hours straight and all it did was create magic smoke in the first few seconds.
how loud is it and what's the power consumption? been thinking about something like this myself.
is that the asus ac1200+g?
I ordered a chinkshit SAS/SATA connector and didn't go for a right-angled one. Straight one adds way too much depth. The unit itself fits nicely so I'm just waiting for a replacement connector then it should sit flush.
This weeb again
...
based grandpa weeb
What the fuck. Why?
nope, AC1900
My desktop hackintosh works just fine as "home nas/server".
>using processors with hardware seucity flaws
ahahah HAHAHAHAhahaHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
even fucking Tavis Ormandy (chief security officer at Google's Project Zero) laughs at you
Just got this bad boy and
Well fuck me sideways
I'd like to buy 4 cheaper HDDs and test out a NAS setup on an old PC
But FreeNAS requires 8GB of RAM minimum.
Is there a less resource intensive way to set up a NAS with a RAID-like filesystem.
Redundancy isn't even a requirement for me at this stage.
jesus dude, throw that fucking thing in the trash
Has anyone tried Rockstor?
It uses btrfs which needs only 2GB of RAM apparently?
Is this a viable alternative to FreeNAS?
Thoughts?
