WHAT THE FUUUUUCK

WHAT THE FUUUUUCK

What are we supposed to do now? Buy AMD?

You were better off doing that for a while actually. Step out of your Stockholm syndrome.

Yes. Or get a ARM CPU and build a ARM desktop, but I don't know if there are NVIDIA/AMD (new gen cards) drivers for ARM or not.

Just connect a display/keyboard to a reasonable powerful tablet and you're done.

Relax, I don't think anyone has really noticed yet.

noticed what?

Haven't been on Sup Forums for a while. What happened?

major security vuln baked into intel cpus from the last ~10 years, only fix slows performance pretty significantly in some cases, affects all OS's

Intel has been cucked by x86 bug. 5-30% performance penalty once it gets fixed

Top kek. AMD laughing

What is the attack vector?
Do I need to install or run malware to get infected?

programs can access kernel memory any program can be attack vector. from gizmodo article says it could potentially even extend to javascript

the attack vector is userspace
even javascript might be enough

dont connect to the internet ever again
PROBLEM SOLVED

>even javascript might be enough
roflmao
intel meme BTFO'd by a sandboxed hipster shit lang

How do I uninstall the Javascript plugin???

How much money is this going to cost companies?

hundreds of billions
think of banks
think of the military
think of every single fucking idiot that decided to go Intel

2018: year of the AMD desktop

>tfw switched to ryzen last year from intel

Anything that runs in memory is vulnerable and the attack can be from a .mp4 or a .jpeg or js or a .exe.

feels like early years of the internet again
this feels wicked good
we're back in the wild west nao

post anime analogies

not "might", the proof of concept was javascript

is there anything suboptimal about running a ryzen with a 1070?

Felt like going on Sup Forums.
Found out thetes major attack vector in PCs.

Lucky I am!

O was about to buy a PC.

nope
good enough for games even on linux

Welp, guess it's time to switch to POWER9.

blueborne, krack, rowhammer, ransomeware, doubleganger, wanacry, heartbleed, trojans via AV, efi/bios injections
yup we truely are back in the 90s wild west ;)

In a stagnating world the ever evolving Linux will adapt and rise to the top.

>Linux will adapt and rise to the top.
LOL. yeah right

pic related

you can switch it off, you know

Switching it "off" still penalizes AMD with a drop in performance. There's simply no excuse for that nonsense.

iOS's A chips. iOS is safe.

...

Silly mactoddler tripfag, your crapintosh is no better off.

Well think about the companies like amazon that have billions in infrastructure that is 30% worse now. That is huge.

Actual adult here. I'll tell you kids what to do.

1. Wait for official patch and disclosures. Do *not* trust Sup Forums when it comes to computer security information, most people here are clueless or are brand fanboys.
2. Wait for benchmarks of the performance hit in real-world use scenarios. And do your own testing too.
3. Evaluate then if it's worth it to buy a new CPU.

Great advice.

>implying kids will give a shit about this
gaymen don't make a lot of syscalls

unless you have an Nvidia GPU
top zozzle

oh? how does this relate to nvidia?

did you forget how CPU bound Nvidia GPUs are compared to AMD's no driver shit?

i don't really follow graphics cards

Not making "a lot" is still making some. I'm sure we'll see a performance hit, maybe not in all games, but in a portion of them. Certainly not 30% or even close, but that remains to be seen.
The question is, is that going to be enough to close the gap between Ryzen and the 8th gen Intel shit? Because if it is, Intel is going to be in pretty bad shape even in gaming.
If you take into account that this shit just completely obliterated them in server/workstation workloads, if they also get fucked in gaming, they're in for a rough bit.

yea, all programs make at least some syscalls
things like load times will likely be slower
