What are the absolute, bare minimum skills you'd need to land an entry level dev job? I always see threads on here about people not finding jobs, or seeing ads for "entry level" asking for experience or a ridiculously long list of skills they want. What's the redpill?

Same requirements as for having a gf it's pretty much impossible unless you're a devchad.

But I've had a gf before and I'm no chad

an idiot manager

1. Minimum intermediate level knowledge in the programing language required in the job. They will test this with interview questions, learn it.
2. Knowledge of version control (git). Demonstrate this ability with a personal github project.
3. Being able to communicate clearly during the interview.
4. Showing aptitude for learning. They don't expect you to be hot shit, but they want to make a good investment.

>1. Minimum intermediate level knowledge in the programing language required in the job. They will test this with interview questions, learn it.
What does this mean?

In my experience not being an asshole is all it takes. Anything you need to know you'll be taught on the job. Everything you think you know is worthless anyway. Acting like a descent human being will get you hired pretty much anywhere.

like,, learn ??? ???

What does intermediate mean smartass
So what are you saying? Anyone that can't get hired is an asshole or autist?

fpbp
lol k chad

So you mean I went 40k in debt for nothing? What the fuck is this shit?

Who grill

Basic algorithms and data structures. Know thy sorting algorithms, trees, heaps and the approperiate containers for the job.

Where does this devchad meme come from? One of my early pajeet tier phone monkey companies had it's own dev team and they were the biggest bunch of autists ive ever met.

Well you've given me hope so an autist can still get a job? Is it just a bad time right now with the holidays and such?

nah, new year new me bullshit, lots of people come out of the Christmas break and think fuck it, time for a new job (like i am doing) so places will open up. Brush up your CV, learn to talk to people, apply everywhere.

good luck

if you are or were a student you should look for internships. everyone starts from there. they won't pay you jack shit but you will gain that very valuable experience you need to get a well-paid dev job.

Just meet the requirements listed on the job posting and don't shit yourself during the interview. All the autist/chad stuff posted about just means that you need to maintain basic interpersonal skills to come across as comfortable and confident in an interview because they'll need you to work with other people in any kind of job.

pussy required, no exception allowed

How do I get a Help Desk job? I have literally no IT experience, going back to school for CS this semester, and I've been doing uber for the last half year.

Can you get a job via telecommute or is being a chad a requirement no matter what?

The average Indian female coder is probably better then the average Sup Forums coder.

Internships and whiteboard problem solving practice using something like leetcode.com

Thats it.

Just apply. Help Desk is easy as fuck. Don't think that job will help you find a dev job though.

help desk jobs don't need experience. My first big boy job after stacking shelves in a music shop was in a call center at an ISP. We we're hiring anyone who could type, read English and answer a phone at one point.

1-2 years experience somewhere
>But how can I get experience if they won't hire me

Yeah welcome to the tech world!

Alright I will keep at it. Kind of wish places would tell me why they rejected me though so I could improve.

>to come across as comfortable and confident
I'll do my best.

Honesty at this point I just want a regular job that pays somewhat decently, thats at least in the same fucking field of what I'm doing. But everytime I see an ad for helpdesk it says required experience or skills. Makes me not want to even bother

>tfw always dress to impress for interviews
>tfw portfolio of projects showcasing everything from general logic/math skills to database skills to networking to backend/frontend knowledge
>tfw try to always be respectful and say sir/mam
>tfw able to talk about my experiences from projects
>tfw knowledge of git
>tfw full stack + general purpose like python/C++
>tfw i have my own personal site + another site for my most developed project which involves bash scripting, cron jobs, API querying, d3.js for data visualization, blockchain parsing, and aggregating financial data from multiple exchanges and a back-end API
meanwhile front end devs who know how to make a loading icon with simple css/js get jobs over me when i practice designing entire applications/systems such as full blown back end APIs for my apps and practice joining together multiple parts to create 1 cohesive app and still no job offers
>tfw interviewers never even email me back after 1st interview

i went into my most recent interview and felt like i killed it. he didnt even bother testing my technical skills cause i showed him my portfolio and he figured the answer was already clear. tfw no email after 1st interview, not even one to tell me i didnt get the job. i even asked for a salary on the low end of the range they were offering

my major isnt even CS, its corp finance and so i have 2 sets of specialized knowledge and id say im a decent full stack. still have a lot to learn about apache and other types of http servers but i can work my way around vhost config, port forwarding, etc. i also have experience with a MEAN stack as well as my main LAMP stack. run ubuntu 1604 as my daily driver and i have experience with RHEL as well. and i have a home server

tfw work my ass off everyday and no job :(

my most recent project is an accounting general ledger since i have finance/accounting knowledge. if this doesnt help me get a job i might just go work at mcdonalds for the rest of my life

You can earn experience at home you fucking retard. Programming is literally the only job in the world where you can get experience while being a NEET. Just don't be a lazy piece of shit and make something or contribute to open source.

Ask em dude, you are entitled to ask for feedback. You aren't guaranteed it but most decent employers or recruiters will tell you why
>tfw one place literally couldn't afford me and promoted some junior without giving him a payrise
small companies suck shit

i could agree, but she''s not a coder, not even a lame one.

Jeez, the amount of stuff one could use against you in a Sup Forums interviewer shitpost is amazing.

Damn. I kind of wonder now if I got rejected for some small thing like that. I'll make sure to ask next time.

if you mean that someone could identify me then cool im broke and no job so i cant offer you much

Don't give up user, but also don't stop working on getting better.

Be confident and keep trying.

Lie a lot. Don't make things up but frame your facts in deceptive ways while leaving out the negative details. You want to create a good image with your carefully selected motifs.

You might have to accept a shit job that goes against everything you stand for as a human being and programmer, but it will give you some experience. Then you can lie more on your next interview.

I've climbed this way to a median dev salary and I was unemployed and educationless until my mid twenties. Luckily, I'm handsome, have social skills and those years in recluse gave me sociopathic traits.

>Nish is a business development professional with 8+ years of demonstrated history in working on artificial intelligence (AI), cognitive technologies, IT, and health tech. She is skilled in sales and creating partnerships programs. She created and launched the digital agency partnership program within Watson and worked over 300 partnership negotiations within Watson.

Yeah, she kinda isn't comparable to the average Sup Forumsay that roams here.

Thats stupid. Let them reject you instead of rejecting yourself. Count your school projects and such as experience. Help Desk has nothing to do with CS and should be easily attainable.

8 years? i doubt she sucked her first dick at 21

I am a moderate autist (very talkative, but nobody wants to listen to me) and I have got two different helpdesk jobs, both of them very good by helpdesk standards, with a CompTIA A+.

You're overqualified for that job, perhaps?

Read the article dipshit, she doesn't write any code at all.

Impressive. It could be bad luck, it could be something is off with you (appearance, the way you communicate), try to figure it out user.
Also, if you apply to low-end dev jobs, you might be overqualified.
You can try to go freelance.

How many jobs have you applied to? Are you willing to leave your area and move? If not why?

For all I know you could be in bumfuck alabama which would explain the lack of dev jobs. If you've applied to less then 100 places you have a ways to go my friend.

My statement is still true regardless.

I have applied to no jobs and feel like there are no jobs that will hire me

the guy who made cuphead could be considered a devchad, pic related

>how a woman with no coding experience landed a job that requires no coding
almonds are activating

- some knowledge of vcs
- some experience, even on your own, with a couple languages
- troubleshooting skills
- communication skills, can you articulate an idea or thought process?
- have an aptitude for learning, you won't ever be doing just one thing, you need to show you can be eventually handed something be expected to just go with it and reporting back with results
- generally being nice and humble helps
- don't spout bs you don't know, be honest, say you don't if you don't, it's ok to not know everything

>only coders are supposed to touch or toys!!! reeeeeee!

Does Sup Forums really not know every company has hundreds of non coders working alongside coders? I'm a dev and I want there ass here to do things we don't want to do.

Dude you don’t need to know jack shit to be help desk. If you can build a fucking computer and spend at least a year browsing any tech forum you will know more than 80% of help desk people.

This

It's no surprise though, practically everyone who posts here is NEET.

- breathing
- knowing how turn on a computer*
- having a vagina

The easiest way into IT is aiming for the diversity hire.

* - this one is optional

bump

Have a decent github. That's pretty much it.
Make sure to have used a handful of languages for your project.
Take a look at language and compiler design at one point, it's always good to know what's going on "under the hood"

maybe you should read the article.

Why do your care about jobs so much

Do you code? Have you tried to apply for a job? Have your read their job offering postings? The requirements should be there.

>working on artificial intelligence
Don't know coding, today almost everybody claims be IA expert

Know people.

make an app that downloads json or xml data and displays it in a tableview and opens a new view when a cell in the table is clicked for ios/android/web/whatever
use git for version control

give me a quick rundown of Amy Addams cocaine addiction

What I don't get is:

University makes you study:
>Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Theoretical CS, etc., etc.

But every company here is hiring for:
>Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, WebDev'ers, Bootcamp-tier skills.

I am LITERALLY unqualified for any job in my city. NO ONE wants to hire me with my formal CS training. LITERALLY script kiddies from javascript bootcamps, and those without degrees, are MORE qualified than I am.

I CANNOT get hired. I been applying, applying and applying. Other software devs say I need "Ruby on Rails experience" or "know Javascript" and that knowing any other programming languages don't count... knowing algorithms/theory doesn't count... I am probably going to have to bag groceries this summer. No one wants to hire me with my CS training.

>What are the absolute, bare minimum skills you'd need to land an entry level dev job?
A pair of tits and basic hygiene

bullshit
>t.woman trying to get into the field
im in the same boat as
I've got great credentials, speak well, have a killer resume, but get rejected all the fucking time. Maybe it's because i don't have a twitter where I whine about oppression or because i dont have green hair or whatever, but fuck that shit honestly.

im sick of it though. I'm sick of following the rules and doing everything right and still being rejected for jobs. i want to fucking die.

This tbqh.
I can implement the best design pattern for a given problem, create an animated scene in opengl and explain to you in depth how a computer works at a fundamental level, but since my past 2 years have been spent learning and revising theoretical BS I have less experience and practical skills than your average pajeet.
Once I have the chance to gain real world programming experience i'm sure all the theoretical stuff will become actually useful, but right now I feel like I'd be better off as a bootcamp script kiddie.

hate to brake it to you buddy, but it's probably 100% your attitude.

Stop acting like a fucking internet smartass, be a real human bean for once

>the absolute, bare minimum skills you'd need to land an entry level dev job?
>the absolute, bare minimum
That would be "none", user. There are companies willing to teach you virtually everything you'll need to know. It takes more time but it's cheaper than hiring an actual specialist.

For many, IT background (literally any - just university will do) is enough to hire you.

>won't pay you jack shit
Clearly you aren't interning at the right places. The most I've been paid as an intern is $7k/mo, free housing, food, and relocation.

>$7k/month, free housing, food, relocation, and hourly blowjob

not him, but that's par for the course in SV and NY where companies hire the best students from the entire country. i landed a local internship in my small town, still made $18/hr

Do you people have any actual evidence internships pay this much? Because it honesty does sound like complete and utter bullshit.

For the former, see:
>glassdoor.com/blog/highest-paying-internships-2017/
>businessinsider.com/the-15-highest-paying-tech-internships-in-the-us-2017-5/#no-2-microsoft-7100-a-month-14
Of course, these are the highest paying internships from top-notch companies. The average is probably $15/hr - $20/hr or so.

As for the latter, it's personal experience. I can't be assed to dig out my W-2, sorry

And what do you do if you can't land an internship?

>Accenture
Had an internship there for a month. Got paid precisely nothing.
Something tells me it's not a company-wide policy but rather a series of anecdotes around the world.
