>"install [os other than ubuntu]"

well enlighten me then, what DO you have to fear if you have NOTHING to hide?

...

>something could happen
>BUT ONLY IF ALL NINE PLANETS ALIGN...
oh no, i'm so scared.

Still waiting for Erik Schmidt posting his passwords.

The same shit that happened to britfags some weeks ago.

>solove.txt

the uk is still on the map and britbongs are still around. couldn't have been that scary.

whatever makes you sleep better at night user

>using being gay twice as an example of overreach

jokes on you, i don't take nudes/lewds and get them leaked on the net.

i literally don't understand what i should be afraid of. laws changing? nothing i can do about that but vote. reasons two and three in your pic are complete bullshit. 'privacy' as a basic human need is a joke, too. rich public figures seem to be doing just as well (if not better) than anyone else. and by the way where not talking about putting cameras in the bathrooms of every citizen and leaking any and all data or passwords they might have, we're talking about surveillance. if you did nothing wrong, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO FEAR? no government agency is going to blackmail you, you're not important. even if they start following you around and read your emails and look up your porn searches, they can legally do nothing with that data until you do something wrong. they can't make that data public, either so what do you care? if you have nothing to hide, literally nothing can happen to you. nothing. feel free to prove me wrong

will you post your real name user? you have nothing to hide right?

my real name is david, but i don't see how this is relevant. posting private information publicly on the internet is different from government agencies spying on you behind closed doors.

nice strawman and good job avoiding the question.

i'll ask again, what should i be afraid of if i literally have nothing to hide (from the government or the law - realize how this does not include random strangers on the internet).

i have broken no laws other than copyright laws, i have nothing to fear. that's a simple fact, i don't live in a shithole of a country like china, russia, north korea or the united states.

I like this one for it uses the faggots.
Fuck them, but it can be useful.

your full name. what you post some neet looking pictures on your crapbook? maybe you don't want your political opinions to be seen? nothing to hide remember?
>(from the government or the law - realize how this does not include random strangers on the internet).
so, you're afraid of random strangers on the internet with no real power over you, but not afraid of random strangers in government with real power over you?

the government is bound by the law, random strangers on the net are not.
why would i be afraid of someone that can only punish me when i do something wrong? i mean when i'm not doing something wrong of course

also, just because i don't hide my views and opinions doesn't mean i have to spout them around all the time. but why WOULDN'T i want people to know what i look like or what my opinions are? when is the last time you have left your house and talked to people for fucks sake

i'd post my full name, if it wasn't against the Sup Forums rules just to prove a point, but i digress.

>no controversial opinions
>not breaking any laws other than copyright
>not fucking insane

tell me what i should be afraid of.
tell me what will happen to me if i continue doing what i'm doing.
tell me and stop answering this question with counter question.
literally just say what should scare me. you have been avoiding doing so since you started this shitty thread. one might wonder why you can't give a straight answer and be done with it.
as of right now, the statement 'nothing to hide, nothing to fear' has still not been debunked. useless thread

It may be a correct statement, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to not want other people up in your shit, government or otherwise.

Stop Breaking the law.

>the government is bound by the law
The government also routinely decides to change (or just ignore) the law when they find it inconvenient.

>why would i be afraid of someone that can only punish me when i do something wrong?
They decide what things are wrong or not wrong, arbitrarily. See above.

>tell me what i should be afraid of.

>All i got is some regular porn officers, that and some banter with my friends
>Well look at that fucko, being racist was made illegal two days ago and I see here you called your friend "nigga" here
>Plus the age of consent was raised to 21 yesterday so you now have 52 instances of child pornography on your phone
>GET ON YOUR KNEES FUCKO!
>CROSS YOUR LEGS AND CRAWL TOWARDS ME WITH YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!!!
>I DIDN'T SAY SIMON SAYS!!!! *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*

>The government also routinely decides to change (or just ignore) the law when they find it inconvenient.
and at least in my country they can't retroactively prosecute me for something i did while it was legal. you are still not giving me a straight answer.
>the trial
kafka's character was killed in the end. now that is something i'd be afraid of, but that will also never ever happen. my government doesn't go around killing. you must life in the third world, where i might agree that you should be afraid even if you have nothing to hide. but i life in a decent country, so i am still wondering what _i_ should be afraid of. so far you have given me nothing.
you sound like a insane schizo from pol
this

so, as long as the laws never change against your opinions of 'right & wrong' and the government keeps listening to what you want, you're okay with them seeing all your conversations, movements, associates and opinions. what what if they do change and they stop listening to you? no country in the last few decades had that happen.. nope.

I leave the house everyday and I too have social media. difference is I don't have some childish notation that random strangers I've never met before have my best interest above theirs.

kek, what government may I ask?

>If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear!
>Just get your ID, you have nothing to hide right? What's the big deal?
>OH SHIT TRUMP IS PRESIDENT, IF ONLY WE HADN'T GIVEN THE CITY ALL OF OUR INFORMATION!!!!!

Time stamped pictures when?

>what if
what if the universe ceases to exist tomorrow? oh boy, then we'd be fucked i'm fucking scared now

>random strangers
they are not random, they are employees of the government. they aren't chosen at random and they have to obey the law, i'm fine with that.

>they do change and they stop listening to you
then i make my voice heard with my vote. i live in a democracy, i'll accept whatever the majority decides and if i don't like that, i'll move to a country that doesn't suck. so far i didn't have a reason to do that.

my country doesn't have issues like that. good thing i life in the first world, not the third.

germany.

this isn't /soc/ and i have no interest in presenting myself to random people on the internet, as i have previously explained.

Why dont you taste my dick? You arent gay right? Then you have NOTHING to fear, right?

>not posting pictures of yourself
Why do you have something to hide? You're such a hypocrite

m.youtube.com/watch?v=OBM_VwgG92g

>just trust the government, surely they'd never do anything wrong

are you attempting rape? what you are doing now is sexual harassment. stop breaking the law. why do you techie types have to be so cringe. lol

do you only leave the house wearing masks and costumes? the government could see your face otherwise

>my country doesn't have issues like that
Until it does you moron, that's the entire point.

I don't know anyone in the FBI and I don't know anyone at Google. If I am not going to give you, a random stranger, access to all of my intimate information then why the fuck would I give an organization full of random strangers the privilege. Because they have to follow "the law"? Since fucking when? Last I checked HRC is still walking the streets, the law means jack shit until they decide that it does, and they will change it to suit their agenda.

You just better pray that fucking you over is never on their agenda or you will very quickly regret your stupid and naive actions.

>i'll accept whatever the majority decides and if i don't like that, i'll move to a country that doesn't suck. so far i didn't have a reason to do that
The will of the majority does not erase human rights and nor should it ever affect them, including privacy. This is the one time I think calling someone a cuck is appropriate if you're just saying "well I'd just move." You're like those people who were shouting they'd move to Canada if Trump got elected and then made excuses and didn't do shit when he did. You'll just be a good goy and shove whatever the nanny state wants up your ass.

Threre's an even worse attitude:
>everything is botnet anyway
>being spied on is normal
It's the new generation of people who were born into the botnet and don't attempt to fight it anymore.

I don't, but user can't say "privacy doesn't matter at all, unless I don't FEEL like posting my picture". When talking in absolutes "nothing" to hide, you can't then say "I don't want to upload a picture of myself because (reason)" because then you are shooting yourself in the foot

>it happened in Russia
>it happened in Germany
>it happened in Japan
>it happened in China
>its happening at this very moment in Venezuela
>but surely it could never happen here. My country couldn't possibly ever be taken over by a totalitarian dictatorship.

Post your real name, your address, your social security number, and a list of your current fears

>my government doesn't go around killing
top kek ISHYDBT

>N-no, I don't want to because I want my privacy

>Until it does you moron, that's the entire point.
yes, i get that you guys are afraid of things that have a slight possibility of happening at some point in the future.

you could also be in a car crash tomorrow. or you could get mugged and killed. or die of a heart attack. or destroy your eyes in an accident and become blind for the rest of your life. you could get parkinsons.

yes, these are all possibilities. but they are unlikely.

in my opinion it is fucking idiotic and childish to run around scared of uncertain things. things that will never happen. the german government won't repeat history during my lifetime, i can guarantee you that. they won't start killing their own citizens, at least not in the foreseeable future.

so i'll ask one last time. what do i have to fear if i have nothing to hide? that the laws change and something i do regularly becomes illegal? ok, yeah, i'm not afraid of that happening. it is too unlikely.

>My country couldn't possibly ever be taken over by a totalitarian dictatorship.
it's ironic because his country already has been taken over by unelected politicians.
>what is the EU

>user predicts the future
What's your secret? Why are you posting here if you have such a unique and actuate view of the future? Can you list all of your active emails and their passwords here? You don't have anything to hide, so that means we won't find anything you wouldn't want us to see

>the government is bound by the law
The government is bound by laws which a democratic society does its best to ensure it follows. They are not magical laws that the government could never change if given the opportunity to, given lax voter surveillance or the power to disregard the voters without repercussions.

i already corrected myself, i have nothing to hide _from the government_, so i have nothing to fear _from the government_ (which is the main villain in this discussion).

of course i am afraid of random tinfoil hat schizos on Sup Forums. you should be too. that is why i won't post a picture here.

i am not 'hiding' i'm simply 'not sharing'. there is a difference

I have yet to read a rebuttal to "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" that isn't either a Slippery Slope Fallacy, Appeal to Fear, Reductio ad absurdum, or loaded with ifs maybes coulds and mights.

("Well then pls post all your passwords and credit card numbers" is a Reductio ad Absurdum)

>LOL JUST POST UR ADRESS AND SS AND PASSWORDS HERE IF U HAVE NOTHIN 2 HIDE XDDD
stop with this strawman, YOU are not the government, YOU have no right to access this data. the government does. and YOU voted for this government.

>if you progressively give up more rights the government will progressively infringe more on your life if it so wishes and government are not automatically bening
>hurr slipperu slupe u said "proggresivly"

kek ta joos thought that too lelelellele

I was unaware that security could tell the difference between workers from your government, which are perfect humans with perfect systems that would never do anything bad, and not your government entities, which then your security system goes "excuse me, sir, you are not of our good government, I can't let you in," and then the person hangs their head in sadness because they were defeated. Which systems can do that?

The argument isn't that those with nothing to hide still have something to fear.
The argument is that every single person, no matter how seemingly benign or how legal the data, has something to hide. Guaranteed.

Then what you really mean is that you have nothing to *hide*, but many things that you want to *protect*.

The reason many people don't want their personal info held on government systems is not that they fear surveillance, it's that they don't trust the security of those systems against the intrusion of people who would use that info in other ways, so we'd rather protect our info as much as we can.

>isn't aware of loveint
>thinks people with access to the data don't abuse it for blatantly personal needs
>thinks those people don't have friends that can sway them
nigga u dum
scenario: some nut wants to shag yer bird and knows a guy with access to GOVT_SPYING_DB_X
he convinces his buddy to help him (e.g. tells him you're beating up your GF, you're a pedophile, drug dealer, organized crime, terrorist or any other horse of the infocalypse)
uses data the govt "responsibly" has on you to fuck your shit up
e.g. get you fired, ruin your reputation, ruin your chance of being hired anywhere where they do the most cursory background check and other character assassination strats
or just blackmails you with the above to achieve whatever goals his cunty mind has

with ubiquitous surveillance, all of us become public political figures. It's not about "got nothing to hide", it's about "got nothing to lose to a dedicated adversary who may be a random manipulative/blackmailing cunt"
shame that idealistic delusional fools like you comprise the majority of the public and as a result everyone's protections against such fuckery suffer

And just because someone feels they personally don't, doesn't mean they can take away someone else's need, desire, want, for privacy. It's a negative right, you must not infringe upon others use of it.

I could die in a car crash tomorrow. I wear a seat belt to make that less likely.
I could get mugged and killed tomorrow. I stay away from certain neighborhoods and don't flaunt money to make that less likely.
I could die of a heart attack tomorrow. I keep my weight under control to make that less likely.
I could destroy my eyes in an accident and become blind tomorrow. I wear goggles when I use power tools to make that less likely.

I could be arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay tomorrow. Or more prosaically I could be harassed by law enforcement because I have political opinions that they, or someone else in government, doesn't like. I look out for my privacy to make that less likely.

Germany is in more danger of it than most, due to the kind of complacency you're exhibiting. Bad things are most likely to happen when you think they never will, because thats when you don't bother taking precautions against them.

>"nothing wrong"
wrong might change over time you know. It's subjective

>you could also be in a car crash tomorrow
Seatbelt
>you could get mugged and killed
CCW
>or destroy your eyes in an accident and become blind for the rest of your life
Sunglasses
>you could get parkinsons
I could also get cancer, to prevent it I don't smoke. You can't choose genetics, but you can choose not to just give all your shit to the first idiot that shows up to your house with a fake badge you stupid faggot.

Pot is now legal in California, so why don't people report themselves to the authorities as verified pot smokers?

Because Trump could easily make it illegal tomorrow with an executive order and guess what, the police now have dirt on millions of morons who assumed that nothing could go wrong. All they have to do is raid their house and charge them with possession along with literally anything else they find in their house that they deem noteworthy. Been buying a bunch of shit online? Guess who's getting persecuted for not paying their use tax! Your stupid ass.

If you do not understand the importance of negative rights then you are either a child or a lost cause. Thank god our founding fathers were smarter than you.

>How to get what you want in 4 easy stages:
>1. Have a target "thing" you wish to stop, yet lack any moral, or practical reasons for doing so?
>2. Pick a fear common to lots of people, something that will evoke a gut reaction: terrorists, pedophiles, serial killers.
>3. Scream loudly to the media that "thing" is being used by perpetrators. (Don't worry if this is true, or common to all other things, or less common with "thing" than with other long established systems—payphones, paper mail, private hotel rooms, lack of bugs in all houses etc.)
>4. Say that the only way to stop perpetrators is to close down "thing", or to regulate it to death, or to have laws forcing en-mass tapability of all private communications on "thing". Don't worry if communicating on "thing" is a constitutionally protected right, if you have done a good job in choosing and publicising the horsemen in 2, no one will notice, they will be too busy clamouring for you to save them from the supposed evils.

Idiot

Answer my question, faggot. Which computer systems and security systems can know if the person is you or someone you're okay with looking through your data but can also prevent literally everyone else from getting in?

>In 2013, the director of the Safe Internet League (a voluntary censorship group in Russia) claimed that pedophiles, perverts, drug dealers “and other creeps”[5] were using the Tor anonymity software, as a reason why the software should be outlawed.

no computer system can do that. good thing computers are operated by human beings that CAN tell the difference.
another strawman...

>perverts
Is that Putinspeak for "gays"?

1. i don't live in the third world (the us)

what you can take away from this thread.
AMERICANS should be afraid, even if they have nothing to hide.
EUROPEANS are fine, if they have done nothing wrong.

dw.com/en/germany-quintuples-arms-sales-to-saudi-arabia-and-egypt/a-41370500
david.. why are you giving weapons to saudi arabia?

So what is preventing some bad entity from getting into your shit? You trust the government, so you don't secure your systems, yet you don't want someone getting your personal photos, bank info, bad stories you've written in your free time, so you increase security. Personally, I don't want my images being tied into scams, malware, etc. And since I can't prevent that after the data has been leaked, I want the best security and privacy I can have by default.

I use windows, google, firefox. Always searching for Seaport Hime related stuff or uploading in the cloud. In hope that one day an ad notifies me that she lives near me and it's interested in me. Or i could a living one and get a another shinkaisei-kan for free.

You sound like a German

>only if you, the people, voted for it
I'm getting exactly what I voted for, less immigration and more global authority. And it costs me exactly zero privacy concessions.

What are you getting?
What is the government giving you in exchange for all of your information?
I dare you to answer, answer and be ridiculed.

>if you don't like the government making it illegal to have a private life you should move to another country
>this is a good and reasonable argument

>1. i don't live in the third world (the us)
Kek.

sure, do you have a warrant? can i see your badge? i will happily provide the requested information once i know you're authorized to access this data.

Also, all of the NSA shit is automated.

the answer is also money. i'm on welfare

i don't have anything to hide, but i do value my privacy. if you are not authorized by the government to access this data, i may have ask you to kindly leave.

But my greatest fear is false accusations!

But your personal info is already not private! You can post it here

>i don't have anything to hide, but i do value my privacy
There is no privacy behind glass walls.

This is also my greatest fear.
>be a human male

My only wish is that you were American, so you could starve on the street like you deserve to.

> don't have anything to hide
you absolutely do though. That's exactly what you're doing now. It's 2018 my dude. With your email, first & last, and maybe DOB I could probably steal your identity. I could ostensibly use your social media to get you fired from your job. Ruin your relationships, post your darkest digital secrets online, etc.

So you do have something to hide.

But you seem to be implying that only governments can access this sort of information when that's not the case at all. I know it's not the case because no one in their right mind, including you evidently, would post that information on a public internet forum.

the great thing about surveillance isn't beating off to brazilian puke porn, it's showing everyone in the government that i did.
