Owned or used? We didn't get a computer in the house until Windows 95. The first I ever used was my elementary school had some Apple IIGS that we go and play like Oregon Trail and Number Munchers and stuff on occasionally. I was born in 1983.

Amstrad Counterpoint - 1984

1986, the first computer my family got ran Windows 3.1. Initial OS in that time frame weren't your primary OS. You had to alternate between MSDos and Windows since Windows didn't have low level access to hardware until DirectX came around. I didn't really use this computer for much, it was a curiosity and I played some games on it that a friend of the family installed a year or two later. Raptor, Ultrabots, Duke Nukem, Lemmings and some Jetpack man game I can remember. It came from QVC with some CDs with a one being called "Jukebox" that had a boatload of free games and demo. It wasn't until Windows 95 came out that I started using computers more since some really good games started coming out; Diablo, Doom etc etc.

I have to ask here... Name the game, puzzle/platformer, 386/486 era, was a side on platformer, you had 4 critters of different colour and different abilities to control. The level design was something like lemmings, and you had to complete the level using the right critters at the right time ect. c'mon oldfags, help me out.

I had a Commodore 64 before the IBM XT with MS-Dos but I'm not sure if that basic interface is a OS.

Fuck me. 3.1

You can kinda argue that the BASIC interpreter is an OS of it self. But I always feel odd doing so, so thats what I noted "Commodore 64 +GEOS" myself.
Played around in GEOS paint as a kid with a Atari 2600 joystick before I knew what Windows was.

First computer I used didn't have an OS exactly. It was a mainframe to use toggle switches to enter code. I guess the first OS I use was System/360.

I still have a floppy somewhere that boots to DOS loading the bare minimum to get games from 1990 running, sets up the PATH to use executables from C:\DOS and displays a custom PCX logo made in Deluxe Paint because gaymer bling hadn't been invented back then.
