>Most advanced package manager yet >Declarative configuration >Atomic upgrades and rollbacks >Easy to set up different environments and use software that you don't want installed globally >Great for programming because you can set up reproducible build environments
It's better than Gentoo. Gentoo wishes it was NixOS.
Luis Perez
looks very interesting
Easton Jackson
>Why aren't you using NixOS yet, Sup Forums? None of its benefits are significant to me.
Lucas Miller
Tell me how to setup exwm properly.
Joseph Ward
I have no idea what exwm is or does sorry.
Jordan Baker
Then I'm not using it.
Isaac Diaz
Does this distro have anything to do with lambdas?
Eli Robinson
No, that's GuixSD. Proprietary cucks need not apply.
Caleb Nguyen
Does it use systemd?
Wyatt Russell
Of course. This is an advanced, modern distro of the future.
Dylan Jenkins
The declarative configurations even include support for systemd. You don't just declare the packages you want installed, but even system services and so on. It's beautiful.
>he wan't inferior slowass package manager written in obsolete version of python
Levi Hughes
nice, thanks
Ryan Cox
What happens on nixos if you want a package that isnt in the repo? Say for example Waterfox.
Brody Howard
Call me when I can remove poetteringware from it. By the looks of it this will never happen though.
Gavin Green
This doesnt really concern me because I want experience with systemD since chances are every single enterprise linux will use it
Ian Myers
> It's beautiful. It's bloated as hell. The most bloat I've ever come across in a Linux distro
James King
bloat systemdick >all packages are kept in /nix/store oh shit!
Adrian Wood
What's bloated?
Colton Perez
So why the fuck are you replying to me? >>>/reddit/
Ryder Kelly
Bumping this
Easton Rivera
Nix is comfy, but I'm goin to try guixsd
Jordan Wright
but I am
Owen Powell
You package it yourself. It's quite simple to do on NixOS.
Ayden Edwards
Would probably be especially easy for Waterfox since you could copy the Firefox package for the most part.
Jason Hall
I am, in a vm. I'm learning nix expression language. I actually like guixSD better than nix atm, but I just can't stand compilation times.
Julian Diaz
What do you like about guixSD compared to NixOS? I've never tried the former.
Xavier Bailey
Not him but I like scheme much more than nix lang. I wish there was guix based distro but with non free software and systemd. As an Admin I use that shit daily
Julian Williams
does it have ez gui install?
Jack Collins
Well, you could install Guix package manager on top of another distro with systemd. Has someone experience with this?
Kayden Scott
Yeah that doesn't work well. Also it's not just packet manager. Nixos and GuixSD are purely functional distributions. There is a way to install nonfree stuff in kernel or nonfree programs for Guix but it will never be in official repos. I don't want to bother with that on work laptop.
Austin Johnson
It works fine for "standalone" types of applications.
Alexander Torres
Because I don't have a 12TB hard drive
Nolan Wright
>bloated declarative fags You might as well kill yourself right now >muh advanced package manager a package manager needs to manage packages, not make you a coffe and stroke your dick. As expected by systemdcucks. Does it run on PID 1 too?
