Cuban Doctor Meme

I've heard that Cuba has one of the best healthcare systems in the word, by SJW's, and am wondering if's true, or just a meme. I have a hard time accepting something as fact from a country that is still a dictatorship, where speaking critical of the government including healthcare can get you in trouble, so I'm not sure how bias the reports might be, or how rigorous it is to become a doctor in Cuba compared to other countries.

Like there's any actual capitalism in most of Africa. Most of these countries have no industry or middle class and all wealth is owned by the president and his family.

A lot of Cuban doctors moved and are working here. They tend to be good, but not worth of their meme status.

Anyone who actually was a real doctor emigrated a long time ago. So-called Cuban "doctors" today are just peasants they took from the sugarcane field and taught a basic first aid course.

I read an article on how they educate doctors some time ago, it appears to be something of a mass education system, while my impression is it wouldn't easily produce many outstanding physicians the focus does seem to be on a minimal acceptable standard. These people do study hard and then go through some intensive internships in grueling conditions eg Africa. In all fairness they do use Western scientific standards and Cuba does rely strongly upon them as not just diplomacy, but up until the oil crash as a direct source of revenue as Venezuela for instance paid the Cuban state directly for their services and not the doctors themselves.

Despite the grim conditions I think it would be unfair to disqualify them as profesionals, there's no reason they should be behind physicians in other countries as medical journals are shared freely although they're probably unfamiliar with some modern equipment/procedures, nothing they couldn't learn in a few months in an adequate environment.

Now this is poverty, not necessarily bad care, unlike which in all fairness may not be typical as leaving aside cleaning suplies/suport staff issues is pretty much gross negligence.

I think truth lies somewhere in the middle, these medics are probably competent and good at improvising/ working in less than ideal circumstances, they're probably not top notch in the sense it would be understood in the US.

I very much doubt they do pseudo-science stuff, they may be forced to rely on herbs and such, there's many with scientifically proven properties, but that's not the same as traditional or magic medicine.

Now the funny thing is that Castro and his pals don't actually use their own hospitals. They fly in a doctor from Europe or something.

It's just a meme, because those physicians for some reasons always want to get away of Cuba.

There is also no accountability, there is no published statistic on how many people die due to malpractice because the number is so high
