Is there any other use to NFC beside payments? My country already has card chips and while I can see it being slightly handier I usually like to root my phone so I don't think I'll get to use it.

Quick Bluetooth pairing

I had an NFC tag under my netbook's palmrest, when I tapped my phone to it it'd set up a Bluetooth PAN.

I'm planning on getting an NFC implant. Can I get my phone to unlock using NFC?

Automation.

I put a tag in my headphones. Scanning it starts bluetooth and music player.

I also put a tag under the top of a cupboard in my bathroom. Placing my phone there sets volume to about half and starts an internet radio stream.

New zealand uses nfc to top up transport cards, that give a discount when used

I use it to check how much money I have on my bus pass.

It works great for pairing with bluetooth speakers as well.

How much battery does having NFC constantly take up on most modern SoC?

Magisk let's you root and keep Android pay.

not on samsung because of knox.

Is there anything to look out for when buying NFC tags? Or can you just get any old crap like ebay.com.au/itm/20x-NFC-NTAG203-Smart-Tag-Sticker-for-Samsung-Nexus-Sony-Android-Devices/151270056136

Depends on usage and your phones capabilities. I still use a Galaxy S3 and I have most success with mifare classic tags. I cannot write Mifare ultra light for example so I cannot use those for automation because I need to write a link to it.

Checkout what standards are supported my your phones nfc chip and get one of those.

Sounds cool. Is there much of a difference between using nfc and autobarcode?

Dunno, I never heard of autobarcode.

Innovate when, if you don't know the use of NFC.

I use it for my OTP codes with yubico.com/products/yubikey-hardware/yubikey-neo/ and play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yubico.yubioath&hl=en

This is clever, I'll consider this for my laptop

I think Nintendo Amiibos are NFC

In iceland you bump phones before sex to check if it's incest

It remains unclear whether incest is good or bad

We use NFC to open doors at my job.

hmm, that's normally RFID and not NFC

Easy solution, don't buy Samsung.
