My monitor is an HP w1907s (says so right on my desk) it sucks ass, super old and is just mediocre. But my boyfriend is getting a new one so I can have his old. So I'm just waiting for that.

what is the point of this shit

Privacy and anti-glare

Dumb question since I've been using VGA the majority of my life (may be more of a video card question): my video card, connected to my monitor via DisplayPort, will not detect my monitor, and thus refuse to display anything to it, unless I turn on my monitor before my PC. My question is: would a more "primitive" connection (such as DVI) bypass this "feature"?

...

I think it might be a "feature" of your graphics card.
I've got a monitor plugged via DP and a TV via HDMI and it will not display shit on the monitor during boot, only after it's loaded the drivers in the OS (the card is aGeforce 760).
My laptop doesn't do that I think, but I'll give it a try.

2xSamsung 24" 16:10 TN ccfl

Stole them from work.

Washed out colors, lots of hours so yellowish backlight.

Since europoor no plan to upgrade.

If monies would go for 34" ultrawide, maybe even 29", 2x24" is just too wide for me.

uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/XvfmP6/asus-monitor-pg279q

Pretty happy with it.

Are there any 32" 4K monitors that don't suck?
Everything out there seems plagued by terrible reviews, I just want a flicker-free monitor with good color reproduction that doesn't have tons of backlight bleed or terrible contrast and viewing angles.

Dell aw3418dw

X34. Looking forward to the X35 and it's HDR support. Once get a vertical resolution of 2160 on an ultrawide with all the other features I'll be content.

Dell U2515H

LG 43UD79-B (UHD IPS)
Extremely happy, will only upgrade when equivalent 120 Hz models (preferably with strobing or variable refresh) come out.

Are there any OLED screens? The only ones I heard about that were affordable where on laptops like the spectre 360 or the alienware 13. Was anything announced at CES?

What's a normal age to grow out of 16:9?

Any interest or opinions on JOLED?

Looks like it's starting to become market ready

Afaik, they supplied the OLED screen on the Thinkpad Yoga which was deemed impressive

While waiting for prices on good 4k monitors to come down I did the stopgap method: Sony XBR43X720E

This is actually a surprisingly good 43" IPS monitor sold as a low end 4k TV with chroma 4:4:4 and they deliver 4k at 60hz. It is missing the shitty smart tv features and all the post processing shit that makes a TV normally unsuitable for use as a monitor, while still delivering an amazing picture and monitor-tier input lag (18ms).

Most monitors these days are 10-24ms input lag (they advertise 1ms response time but hat is different). Asus gaming monitors like the $1200 PG348Q are around 14ms while most Samsung monitors are around 24ms. For a 4k TV to hit 18ms puts you right in the middle of it all, and it is less lag than the Philips, Samsung and viewsonic 4k monitors.

rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-usage/pc-monitor

These periodically go on sale for $450 or so (I got mine for $600 Canadian). The higher end tvs all perform worse as monitors, and for a monitor to match it's picture quality at that size you are normally looking at $900+.

tl;dr

When good G-sync monitors come down in price and when GPUs are powerful enough to make use of 4k 120hz, I will upgrade to a true 4k 40" monitor, but until then these Sony TVs are one of the best kept secrets as PC monitors. I will never be able to go back to a tiny 28" monitor ever again.

tfw not enough shekels for an ink monitor

Samsung c24fg73, curved VA panel. Was great so far. Ain't moving from 1080p until 4k@144hz is a thing.

If you're not using a square one, you're a CIA NIGGER.

I've been looking at some 55 inch 4k TVs and I have noticed most all 2017 model TV have gotten leagues better in terms of input lag where there usable for PC use. Some even do 120hz at 1080p which is somewhat of a bonus if you cant do full 4k on your GPU in games yet

The difference between 4k TVs and 4k monitors now is shrinking fast. As I said the thing that limits modern 4k HDTV performance as monitors is all the extra feature and post processing they pack into HDTVs. This is why lower end 4k TVs make the better monitors, but some high end LG are also amazing (if you have room for 55").

I hate to say it but the 4k console gamers could the ones driving the low lag HDTVs. As consumers they wants sub-20ms input lag for the same reasons PC FPS players do. As a bonus this means precise and crisp mouse tracking when using the TV as a monitor.

I find 40 to 43" is perfect size for a 4k monitor. Text size is perfectly comfortable to read without scaling and it is pretty much the same as running a 4-monitotor configuration from a few years ago only on one screen.

Even all the higher end TVs that do have image processing, input lag is still very low since you can always just put it on game or PC mode which disables image processing. There is a 55 inch LG in the living room and it stays on game mode even if where just watching TV because it looks more natural than all the other settings

>being either a gay or a woman

That guy

how can you find out how many monitors you can connect to a laptop ?

including resolution / refresh rates ?

on a thinkpad p71 for example ...

Asus MX239H and MX259H

Reminder to calibrate your monitor once every 4 weeks.

I use i1display pro

>$250+ for a scam

>scam
You're a cuck or blind if you have never noticed the huge difference before and after calibration

>every 4 weeks.
why?

My 24" 1080p is a tad too small, what's a recommended size/resolution for productive and gaming?

tcl p605

literally all monitors are shit, so I went to tvs so I could hat least have screen realestate over hardware based AA

>what's a recommended size/resolution for productive and gaming?
There is no real answer to this it's your preference, needs, GPU power that matters more than a general recommendation

Well how can I tell if it's any good if I have to buy it to find out?

tcl p605

55 inches, but the local contrast eliminates backlight issues, and when rgb is 255 255 255 im able to see delineations of 1-2 off so the colors are very accurate, then its 93% of the adobergb like standard.

granted, tcl just showed off their new version that has brighter lights and more local contrast points so that would be better if you can wait.

hdr isn't worth it till you get a VERY bright display as dolby hdr is masters expecting you to have 4000 cm/2 or an oled.

there any good not fucking retardedly expensive alternatives?

1200p was good for pc monitors without to much of a premium, 1600p always had a 700-1000$ premium, and im not sure if there is a non 16:9 non ultrawide resolution in the 4k area.

if i have tjese spcs and a budget of 900 dollars what monitor or pair of monitors should i buy?

tcl p605 is currently among if not the best tv for input lag, being 14ms with local dimming.

I personally find this to be the biggest you could get before pixel size at 4k really becomes an issue

Most tvs even in game mode have 30-50ms of input lag.

it's generally a fairly big difference, but is it a 200+$ difference? honestly, calibrating based on images is good enough for non professional use.

backlight changes over time, pixels may also be weird over time.

I would get a tcl p605 or is successor for one monitor and a stupidly fast tn for gaming.

that way you get the fastest pixel response time and can play fast paced games on it, and you get the fantastic tn color and contrast for video, daily driver, and games that aren't fast paced you can play at 4k.

>Your computer monitor is arguably the most important peripheral
Was true pre 2000s before the lcd take over.

it was less important pre lcd, as nearly everything was good

lcds come in so many flavors of fucking horrible you actually have to shop around.

>it was less important pre lcd, as nearly everything was good
Not really. Most everything was shit. Resolution being the big thing.

>still no 4K or above 120hz~ between 27 and 32 inch with real 10bit panel for an affordable price
why live, I have a meme korean monitor as a main one and every week I find a new stuck pixel, though I used to fix them by taping a few times, now they get stuck forever
Also, yes, it's that monitor that Linus showed some days ago, but I got it like half a year ago or more.

>30-50ms of input lag
Maybe 2 years ago, but 90% of the new 4k TVs I've seen are always 15-20ms in game mode with the worst I've seen is the Sony X900E with 35ms.
My scope is limited I will say as I've only been looking at 55 inch TVs

Pixels shift over time

Buying a monitor but not making use of its full potential is a much bigger waste of money.

2 x BVM-E251

U2715H with a U2414H in portrait. Haven't fell for the 144hz meme yet.

Where can I go to see side by sides of FHD vs 4k and 60fps/hz vs 90+?
I'm pretty sure the display models at Best Buy and such run off the same feed so it's unlikely if anyone but the store tech support knows the feed quality (and if the feed is like, 720p 30fps, then the employees probably can't arrange anything to help me).

B&H

Current: one dell 2007fp in landscape, one dell 2007fp in portrait
Just ordered dual dell u2412m monitors. Can't wait.

I don't get your meaning. This store seems to have one physical location and I'm not keen on traveling across 5 states to look at a hardware display.

Good luck then. Most store won't do what you're asking. Try to find a pro store nearby.

What's it like having your face a foot and a half from a 43" monitor?

Hey great, a dedicated thread.
I'm looking for a monitor for gaymin on a 1070 TI. Which type of monitor should I be looking for? I want to game in 1440p.
There are a couple monitors Ive found WITH G-Sync, and since I'm a cheap ass, the lowest ones sell for around $469. Thing is, these are TN panels and Ive heard that those panels are shit for color and whatnot.
On the other hand, there are many more IPS panels available that are much cheaper (BenQ is one manufacturer) but with no G-Sync. Ive heard IPS are great for gaming on, despite higher input lag.

I've done that with a 43" 1080p TV, other than the abhorrent DPI it was kind of nice

Depends on what you play. I play WoW and would rather have nice IPS quality. But if you play like counter strike you want something faster.

I mostly play rpgs and the occasional mmo, Im not too into fps

TN is absolutely disgusting. These few ms aren't really noticeable, and if you actually really cared you'd gayme on a CRT or something.

Only the best, my man.

>What's it like having your face a foot and a half from a 43" monitor?
Whats it like using multiple monitors?
Whats it like using any other 40" monitor?

This isn't a fucking 14" laptop that you lean over like a hunchback. You sit a few feet back from any monitor (minimum 30" to 40" for any monitor regardless of size). On this desk without leaning way forward I cannot even touch the monitor with my arm fully extended (and I am 6'4" with very good reach).

A 40" monitor just lets you read text at native 4k without scaling and it is all very easy on the eyes. It's just as natural as reading text on a 22" monitor at lower res.

Get the IPS.

>65"
>but intended for the desk
>4K
>HDR
>120hz
>low latency
>Gsync
There's no way I'll be able to afford one, but fuck me if I don't want one. This thing checks every box. I was literally asking "2160p120hdr when" in a monitor thread last week.

Thanks for replying, I guess.

give me that with AM/Q/OLED and in a 27~32" format, please.

I have the Samsung C32F391 32" 1080p VA panel curved monitor. It's better than my previous monitor (Viewsonic 27" 1080p TN panel).

do you have a microcenter near you?

27~30" 5K OLED/MicroLED 144Hz monitor when?

and affordable when?
It looks like 2025~30 will be it.

I don't need affordable, only that it exists

Then it would be like +1K, probably 1300 or so.

i'm kinda hard pressed on cash, especially after gpu prices went up. So should I get a 144Hz monitor (1080p) or something with a lower refresh rate and considerably cheaper

that's still low, dell launched a 4K OLED 60Hz monitor for $3500

asus.com/Monitors/VP228H/overview/
is this ips or tn or what is it I can't tell

either TN or VA

could the fact that they don't disclose it be a sign that it's tn?

Save your money if you're strapped on cash.

maybe, but those viewing angles are a tad bit too good for it to be TN

>VP228H
It's TN

I've got three Dell UP2415Qs. The pixel density is unparalleled

alright.
would you consider it an upgrade from samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/led-monitor-a350-series ? I'm getting it for free

oops, meant for

>unparalleled
talk shit get hit amazon.co.uk/Dell-UP3218K-UltraSharp-Ultra-Monitor/dp/B0727ZQ21F/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515563223&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell 8K Monitor

The Asus is a newer monitor so it should be a little better you'll have a 2nd screen to use atleast

Looking to buy a new monitor with a $550 price limit but have no idea what to buy. I have done some research so far and some of the things that a scare me away from making purchases are dead pixels bad quality control and ghosting issues.

>Sony XBR43X720E
dude what is the european version called? I cant seem to find this anywhere in europe?

this is always the correct answer

KD-43XE7096 or KD-43XE8005 for the updated one

Keeping focus on your facebook feed

My monitor was doing kind of the same thing except it was when i put my computer on sleep it wouldnt detect it afterward. Just switched back to hdmi since I found no working fix

Mein nigger, I hope you are absolutely shure and dont make me waste 500 euros. this should have the same response time and 10 bit.

Thats some good tranny porn going up there

I'm considering buying AOC G2770PQU 27” off of amazon, am I an idiot?

Acer X233H 23" 1080p.

I've had it for years and never had a problem with it, other than having an hdmi port and no audio out.
