I'll continue calling Android Android just like I call Debian Debian.
>look, i just downloaded a linux app from the linux play store
But user, you are doing it wrong, linux isn't an operating system it is just the kernel.
The kernel is the operating system.
Wait shitroid is linux? This explains why it's such a shitty bloated OS who lags like hell.
HAHAHAHAHA this board keeps sucking pajeet dick while the biggest pajeet OS is linux.
Android is a fork of Linux
...
No, the kernel is just one part of a complete operating system. More specifically the part that creates a uniform interface to the different supported hardware.
The Linux kernel can be (and is) used by multiple operating systems like Android, Ubuntu, LEDE, and hundreds more.
Android is not fork of anything. It was a brand new operating system using the Linux kernel.
>It was a brand new operating system using the Android kernel.
FTFY
Android has games
Linux has no games.
Android isn't Linux.
That "Android kernel" is a modified Linux kernel. You could argue that the "Android kernel" is a fork of the Linux kernel.
The no games meme needs to die, emulators run on every OS.
IIT: people who don't know what "kernel", "operating system" or "fork" means.
emulators aren't games
call of duty is a game
Android in itself is a fork of the Linux operating system.
There are lots of games for OSes using the Linux kernel, fa.m You're right about the Android isn't Linux part, though. An engine is not a car either.
Emulators are used to play games such as Call of Duty.
Even iPhone runs Linux on the modem.
Most "Apple" users probably have their iJunk outnumbered at home by devices running the Linux kernel and not even know it.
Linux is not an OS.
It's also a colloquialism for operating systems that use Linux as their kernel
No it's GNU.
Learn what a colloquialism is.
Yes, and iPad is a colloquialism for "Tablet" by tech-illiterate old people. Calling "Linux" an operating system immediately puts you in the "I'm on Sup Forums because I haz smartfoen" category.
Android is a fork of the Linux operating system in the sense that they took every part of it, and well, forked it.
Not in the slightest.
You cannot take any part of something that doesn't exist friendo. There is no "Linux operating system" (link me if you believe otherwise). Android has no ancestor OS. It's new OS using Linux as its kernel with modifications.
>what are APIs
Linux is just a kernel.
Yes, it is. My mother in law for example insists on calling every tablet an iPad, because that is all she knows. Do you want to sound as stupid as my mother in law? Go ahead and call Linux an OS.
>Leenocks is just a kornel
I'll continue to call Linux an OS because when I'm discussing operating systems that use the Linux kernel, I'm not just talking about GAHNOO. And even when I am discussing a Linux OS that uses the GNU userland I won't use the retarded name as it's unfair to other developers such as FreeDesktop.org and those who created systemd. Fuck RMS and his insufferable whining.

The Linux operating system includes GNU in its product
Then you should also stop calling the linux operating system "Android".
No, because I'm talking about a specific OS. Just like if I'm specifically talking about Debian, I call it Debian.
Linux is not an operating system. GNU is, Android is, Windows is, macOS is, Linux is a kernel, NT is a kernel, XNU is a kernel.
GANOO PLUS LUNUKKS
I'm not referring to the GNU thing. There are hundreds of Linux distros (with or without GNU, I don't care) that all have a name of their own. Calling Debian, Ubuntu, antiX, Mint, Arch (300+ or so more) all "Linux" isn't very helpful in a discussion about said operating system. If you say "Linux" I first have to ask "What distro?"
Don't be that guy. If you discus a Linux distro just call it by it's name (which isn't the name of the kernel).
>If you say "Linux" I first have to ask "What distro?"
If I said "Linux" I wouldn't be talking about a specific distro.
bait
With the Linux API system? Could've fooled me.
Linux is an operating system when you take into account its entire operating system.
>tfw you took a java/scratch course in highschool so now you can lurk on Sup Forums and be a l337 h4x0r
kill yourself user
Posting more Linux API charts
So we established there exists a Linux API system and a Linux kernel.
Still nobody can link me to a page where I can download this "Linux operating system" you all claim to exist somehow.
...
Yes. And all of these make up the Linux operating system, which Android forked.

>inb4 emacs is an operating system
Maybe the Wikipedia article can help to point you in the right direction

Oh, wow. So a kernel with a documented way of talking to it is an operating system all the sudden.
WSL wants to have a talk.
Android/Linux -> calls it Android
Gnu/Linux -> calls it Linux
do you see the inconsistency?
>The operating system does everything an operating system does
>It's still a kernel i swear
There is no inconsistency, In both cases I'm talking about operating systems that use the Linux kernel, which includes both Android and operating systems that use the GNU userland.
Android is ab operating system which includes the Linux kernel, the same amount of Linux kernel as in GNU/Linux systems.
You'd have to be pretty far into the Unix politics to think that the Linux operating system doesn't exist.
It's the same denial that you see in actual politics.
As a user I cannot interact with that "operating system" you describe.
The you should have no problem linking me to the download page of the "Linux operating system". As long as you can't all your arguments are invalid.
I only see a linux kernel.
You can download any distro of the Linux operating system.
Fuck those stallmanites and googlist thiefs!
...
And finally he falls flat on his face.
I can indeed download hundreds of distros using the Linux kernel.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Distros of the Linux operating system all include the Linux operating system, so thanks for proving my point kid.
Who cares about a botnet os spreading the botnet message. More important is your freedom. Install a custom ROM, use fdroid and if you're a programmer, feel free to help with replicant.
So you are saying there is no "Linux operating system" after all? All I can download are operating systems using Linux as a kernel? Why do you first pretend it exists only to admit it doesn't after spamming a few API charts?
Thanks for the charts btw. They give a lot of insight how the Linux kernel communicates with the OS that uses it.
...
>Distros of the Linux operating system all include the Linux operating system
You entirely made that up yourself. Never did I say Distros of the Linux operating system, because it doesn't exist. I never saw a Linux distro that calls itself a "Distro of the Linux operating system".
...
Not him. Please describe with your own words what an operating system is. Not any specific one, just what the term means. Avoid using any brand names. Failing to do so will result in a lifetime of shame.
After completing this task, please explain what a monolithic kernel does with your own words. No brand names should be used. Failing to complete this task will result in a lifetime of shame. I'll wait but I won't hold my breath.
>this denial again
We've already been through this, user. You don't seem to know what a distro is, either. Each distro comes with the complete Linux operating system.
>but distros don't have anything in common
Kill yourself please.
...
...
It's the closer we'll get to the "I'd like to interject for a moment" pasta and somehow that makes me sad
I always count Android as one of many Linux distros. It doesn't come with GNU and infamous systemd.
>I always count Android as one of many Linux distros.
Doesn't every one?
I sometimes hear Android and other Linux distros are two different things for some reason.
If Android uses the Linux kernel then it's a Linux distribution. It differs a lot from GNU/Linux distributions but that's a different thing.
Android is a forked operating system from Linux, so it shouldn't be considered Linux per-se.
Distros like Debian/kFreeBSD are really just the Linux operating system running different kernels.
Linux doesn't even need its kernel to still be the Linux operating system. Really makes you think.
Any kernel mod disqualifies to be called Linux?
>he didn't know Android is literally Linux
We're laughing at you, not with you, son.
>Distros like Debian/kFreeBSD are really just the Linux operating system but without the Linux operating system
no
It's still using Linux APIs while having a different kernel. The FreeBSD kernel is also compatible with the Linux API, making the Linux operating system.
I think you should really try Debian/kFreeBSD sometime.
>I think you should really try Debian/kFreeBSD sometime.
No thanks, I've no interest in that clusterfuck.
It's a shining example of the modularity of the Linux operating system.
Excuse me, but what OS was Android forked from? Can you link me?
I must admit my question wasn't sincere. Android wasn't forked, fa.m It's the Linux kernel with bionic libc and toybox as userland.
If you consider Android a fork then it should be a NetBSD fork since it previously got some core utils from it.
Android wasn't developed from the ground up, user. It's based on forked components of the Linux operating system.
No NetBSD. It's a NetBSD fork using the Linux kernel.
>no Linux
>Linux
no
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Debian,
is in fact, Debra/Ian, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Debra plus Ian.
Debian is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning Debra system made useful by the Debra corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the Debra system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Debra
which is widely used today is often called "Debian", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the Debra system, developed by the Debra Project.
There really is a Debian, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Debian is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Debian is
normally used in combination with the Debra operating system: the whole system
is basically Debra with Ian added, or Debra/Ian. All the so-called "Debian"
distributions are really distributions of Debra/Ian.
Calling Debian/kFreeBSD a Linux operating system is completely retarded. Where the fuck is linux, faggot.
Since Ian is no more I just call it Deb.
Stop acting like there's a "linux operating system“. You can't even bout linux by itself, how would you go operating?
Tux racer > android games
You can have linux without gnu see android
