I'm a Seagate victim. Somehow rescued the data by reading small group of files after keeping the drive in the fridge.
It is not even funny when you have lived through it.

Man I fucking love floppy disks. I miss them so much. They just looked so awesome and felt so great to use. If only they had more capacity and speed so people would still use them in today's age. At least I have this mod (pic related) to keep me going for now.

I do have a question though. We have SD cards. Why don't people just make them bigger (floppy disk sized)? Wouldn't they be able to store more capacity that way as well?

>I really like floppy disks!

No point, just buy a 2.5" SSD with a USB port than. The point of SD is to be small.

Well-deserved (You), that was nuts.

What system(s)?

former seagate user here too, the stress I went through when my drive shit the bed was fucking painful

I've seen this guy before, really cool PC mod. I kind of want to do that myself. Not just the floppy mod but building a modern system in an old chassis, I have an old IBM Intellistation that I think could work well

my hard drive started clicking during startup a month ago and my laptop wouldnt boot up no matter how many times i tried. I smacked the shit out of my laptop and held it upside down and it booted up. Its been a month now since that, I havent turned off my laptop in fear that it wont boot up again. I haven't heard clicking sounds since.
how fucked am I?

Very. You have backups, right?

>Using sneakernet to get a game from a friend's house
>Game compressed and put in 3 floppies
>Third part of the compressed file corrupted, sector error on disk

I'd still use them as coasters even if you could fit a gigabyte on them. The only people who claim to miss them are nostalgia-goggled "90's kid" morons who were still shitting in diapers when they were relevant.

Modern flash and spinning rust USB mass storage devices out-class them in every single way; convenience, reliability, portability, capacity, you name it. The only thing a floppy disk is good for in 2018 is booting and setting up an old system, then loading USB or network drivers on it so it can use a real file transfer medium that doesn't destroy itself after three read/write cycles.
