Is this thing worth crowdfunding and why/why not? What's a better alternative for it? Looks like it'll deliver, but not sure about the actual quality.

No it's a piece of shit.
Just buy a GPD like every other sane person seeking a UMPC or use your phone/tablet
It's a great idea but the execution looks iffy, without a real pointing device the GNU/Linux side is going to be DOA, and I'm not too optimistic about the android component either, I doubt it's keyboard-friendly.
Don't listen to GPDtards though, their bloated Windows-powered DSes are just as terrible and no "sane" person is wasting money on that half-assed gamer trash.
CPU vulnerable to some of the new spectre attacks. DOA.
Spectre != Meltdown
It impacts pretty much every chip worth a damn since 1995 in one way or another except some recent-ish SPARC T-series systems.
I'd just wait for the release model.
I was thinking about the GPD Pocket, but at that point, I rather just get a laptop. x86 however is attractive, but it has an Intel Atom processor. Pic related has 4G capabilities. I want to replace both my smartphone and my laptop but keep it small.
I mostly care about Linux terminals, not so much GUIs. I think with some work, the touchscreen could be used like a touchpad, and the cursors wouldn't be bad either.
The price jumps up by a whole $200 on the retail version, and I don't want to miss out on the deal if it's worthwhile.
Hence why i specified spectre. It's still an issue, and there are less shitty ARM cpus that aren't vulnerable. Also mediatek.
crowdfunding is for gullible people who desperately want to show they are smarter than everyone else.
Fuck it, I backed it anyway as my first crowdfunded thing ever.
By Allah, if this goes wrong, the west shall be in peril.
lmao that screen
>crowdfund
>falling for memes
Allah laughs at you
That atom will still run circles around arm and run most of what you want
not him but the pocket does a measly 5 something hours of battery life because of the atom. arm arch is the way to go for mobile devices.
Not for a device that I want to replace my laptop with
But if we're talking about a phone then sure arm is the only answer
depends on what you are doing on the laptop in the first place. that gemini pda thing has a cpu much better than the raspberry pi 3 b, which can comfortably do a lot of the things you would typically do. atom just hits that spot where it is too shit for anything intensive and too power hungry without satisfying the former.
Who the fuck uses a PDA in 2018? Use your phone dummy.
>phone
>keyboard
I miss the Nokia N8
Do the keys have proper tactile response or are they very hard to press and spongy like the Psion 5mx?
I believe it's an exact recreation of the Psion 5's keyboard, so probably. People have been saying it's spongy, some hate it and others like it from what I have seen.
Dude, GPD has the worst keyboard layout ever (the latest one). And also the atom processors are fuckable with spectre. Since the gemini pda is made with 10 core mediatek processor you are good.
Also as an added bonus it has LTE.
What else do you need.
Nigga wut? Most of the kind of neckbeard autistic fucks that would use something like this would be running a WM where they do everything with vim or emacs keybinds.
