emacs thread? Just started using vanilla emacs for my email client. The shortcuts are fairly intuitive. The eww browser is ok too fwiw.

I use emacs for everything my man. Program in it, wrote my thesis in it, I even make presentation in it. You just need to do a few tutorials and try to do a project inside it. Its especially good for stats related stuff (better than rstudio imo)
Jack Evans
lol he thought emacs was user friendly like sublime or some other pleb editor. Emacs requires a certain intelligence level to use. If you can't notice that most the keybindings work with bash and other programs like man and nano you are more hopeless than you think and don't deserve emacs. I left Vim for emacs and best decision I could have made.
Chase Kelly
at least it's not vi/vim

What does emacs even have over vim?

emacs can do anything vi can (using evil) and much more
Brody Robinson

I use vim for everything. Why should I switch to emacs?
Jeremiah Walker
Why is emacs so slow to open? I just tried it and it takes noticeably more time to start than vim.
Also, I can definitely tell how people fuck up their hands with this. don't get me wrong, I use the emacs binds for stuff on the cli, but imagine using that shit for all text editing. damn..
Because vim shouldn't be used for everything. Where emacs can and is encouraged. Vim is supposed to only be used for quick text editing. Most people turn it into an abomination of plugins that weren't meant to be in a shitty scripting language. Where as emacs was made to never be left.
Jaxon Morales
run the daemon in the background, thats how its supposed to be done. And then use emacsclient to launch emacs. I put an alias so i dont have to type emacsclient
Jackson Miller
Yeah, nonmodal editing is harder on the hands than modal editing.
