When you purged all your social media accounts how did you feel? How did your life change...

When you purged all your social media accounts how did you feel? How did your life change? Deleted all my shit and transitioned all my accounts to my music alias, removed everyone, started over fresh. Barely touch my phone which now lasts me nearly 3 days on one charge. I go outside and do more shit with friends. I've also stopped looking at my phone whenever I'm in anxious situations and it's helped a lot with my confidence and interacting.

>didn't have any friends before deleting faceberg
>don't have any friends after deleting faceberg

At least I don't have to look at other people now

>When you purged all your social media accounts how did you feel? How did your life change?
I feel like I have way more time, and don't care about stupid shit anymore

I have never had a social media account or a phone that could do anything other than text message

Bumping this. Have fb, wanna delete.

I felt relieved. Watching constantly what my "friends" were doing was causing me anxiety, since I was all the time I was wondering if my life was worth it. In the end I realized that all of them were good people but there was no real communication with them, so I just closed all my accounts and I started to invest more time with people on my workplace or joining other activities. I never looked back.

Exactly, having friends from high school who constantly share what they're doing makes you feel like you're doing nothing with your life. But they over glorify what they're doing as fun. Without social media you have a lot more motivation. Now, what I wish I had the willpower to do was get Sup Forums out of my life but I like it too much. Been here since 2011 which is newfag tier but it's hard to leave.

I only had Facebook during highschool, pretty much a necessity unless you wanna be a loner... After I finished in 2010 I deleted it. I feel the same, just don't waste time on that site anymore.

This, feels nice to not be retarded.

All your info is still on their databases guys, lets just hope that some random employee doesnt decide to dig up your info one day and fuck with you.

I hate Zuckerberg, but he was right about one thing, people who trust him with their info are dumb fucks.

most of the people are barely active on facebook

also Sup Forums is the only social network I engage in, besides youtube, also want to leave this shithole but Homm general on /vr/ is just too comfy. I don't give a shit about porn any more because my dick is broken.

I've basically accepted I'll never be able to delete my social media accounts solely cause family members use it to keep in contact with me. I don't use Facebook itself, but I'll have the Messenger app so I can talk to them.

Why not get their numbers to call/text them?

Made account in 2007. Used it once a year. Stopped using in 2010 or so.

2018. Still friends. More money than ever. More business than ever. More pussy than ever. More fun than ever.

Why should I work for a jew for free?

I do, but they're all over the world so it's not such a simple thing. It's not so much me, it's everyone else. If everyone else stopped using it, I'd gladly delete it. But until then, I'm basically forced to keep it around. People don't even text me anymore, it's all Messenger. Even when I send them actual texts, they'll reply through Messenger.

It's extremely liberating, although I still use Whatsapp because normies don't use better messaging apps

Good thing I don't give a shit about people, I don't have to deal with first world problems like that.

>using social media ever in your life

Glad you purged it though.

You comment on youtube? Also Sup Forums is an imageboard not necessarily social media though it technically can be considered a form.

not sure if I'm still part of the botnet, but I have a Twitter account completely unrelated to me, just to follow a few things that interest me

Sup Forums is social media, let's not fool ourselves

also, people shouldn't brag about not watching TV, when they're probably the same amount of time watching crappy videos on YT

Harder to make friends.
I'm a first year student and everyone around ask me for a Snapchat and have to constanty have to say I don't use any social media. Giving out phone numbers has gotten more personal and not really a thing people offer anymore

Don't really feel any different.

There were two parts to it:
1. This 2. Isolation.

#2, I think, was the more difficult part of it.
It wasn't losing touch with old acquaintances, but it was my family, too.

My grandfather passed away and I didn't find out for almost 6 months.
It was later explained that my aunt had a Facebook messaging group for the family, and she used that list to start making phone calls to tell people. Since I wasn't on Facebook at the time, therefor not in the group, I didn't get the call.

Family members getting married, having kids, and other big life moments are missed because in their head they think "I can post it on Facebook and everyone gets the memo."
It's been 6 years since I've deleted my Facebook and that's still the hardest part.

since doing that i don't have any friends left. lost contact with them all 7 years ago.

Fuck snapchat, I like chatlogs especially if I'm having a conversation. It's bizarre people now have full conversations by sending a picture of their face conveying what they're saying with text over their face. I don't think trading numbers is too awkward or personal, if you make it awkward then it'll be awkward.

>people now have full conversations by sending a picture of their face conveying what they're saying with text over their face
jesus

Never created them in the first place and I feel great.
My anus is still virginal, while yours is stretched and disgusting

This desu. I only keep my FB account to talk to my highschool buddy. Can't wait for us to find another means of chatting.

Got rid of all the bullshit a year ago.
Friends know how to reach me if they want to chat or meet up irl.
I meet new people. Seldom happens, but I do. I'll give them my email and/or phone number if they ask for it.
Feels great being able to be productive at the PC. No more endlessly scrolling through bullshit newsfeeds and timelines.
This actually happened to me, too. I talked with a lot of acquaintances through fb messenger. Sometimes we'd even meet up for a beer. Communication with a lot of people ceased, but a few great friends are always around if I get lonely or whatever.

>How did your life change?

I have much more time for Sup Forums

2006
All I was able to do was view other people's lives and then feel terrible that I'm not doing any of those things. I no longer interact with anyone but my coworkers and immediate family and am unable to do so without making them miserable. Using it, not using it, I'm unhappy either way.

Deleted facebook, can't remember why but I got a really intrusive email that pissed me off and deleted it. Not a big deal never really used it never posted ever really, just don't have fb now lol.

Its not like I'm not a product for 20 other companies still, its just that facebook was objectively the worst with the smallest benefit for my everyday life.

This.

never used any social media unless you count steam and discord. feels good

Sup Forums is social media.

how do you purge your accounts?
don't twitter and facebook keep accounts and everything related to them?
how to do you delete info of yourself from the internet?
why do normals not like privacy?

Obviously that data will remain with the website. What I am asking is how do you feel without social media in your life.

>why do normals not like privacy?
They've pretty much accepted that no matter what they do the government is watching them so they don't bother.

I have a tablet I keep a barebones account for chat but that's it. I was very addicted to facebook since like around 2009 but then I lost my account because I forgot my email. In hindsight it was probably one of the better things to happen to me, but in terms of social improvement I can say nothing's changed, I am still alone as ever.

All I had was a myspace account which is gone and a fake facebook account

Used facebook till 2013, then got rid of it. I didn't use it all that much anyways, so it didn't make a real difference.

why do you guys have to delete your social media?

I have FB / IG / SC
but i only really use them as messaging services
if you exclude time I spend texting people on those apps,
I probably spend like 5-10 minutes a day looking at them

>people now have full conversations by sending a picture of their face conveying what they're saying with text over their face
people rarely do that
SC allows you to text normally,
with the option to save anything important

>SC allows you to text normally,
>with the option to save anything important
wow what a feature! i now feel very compelled to adopt this new-to-me chat/data harvesting app.

I've never had a facebook or any other kind of social media. However, it's really hard to avoid the peer pressure to get one, not even just to be in contact with people, but for the sake of having one. I don't like sharing what's going on in my life, and I don't care about other peoples' lives. It's kind of hard to explain that most of the time without coming off as stubborn and "in the stone age".

The same I guess. When I tried mysapce back in high school I only did it because some friends wouldn't stop bothering me about not having one and then I used it for about it month before I got tired of all the inane crap people posted. Was also annoying being constantly asked why I didn't have a profile with my real name and picture after making one or people I never even interacted with sending requests to boost their 250+ friend list.

Deleted my shitbook in 2015 dec, never looked back, I regret nothing.
I have a twitter acc with fake name and random pic with cock.li email just to follow a few twitch faggots and 2-3 companies

I have a diaspora account however, Sup Forums should check it out
>free software social network
>decentralized, you choose your server (called pod)
>you have control over your data
>deletions means deletion for good
>no "real data" needed, can use any name, pic and email you want. No need for phone number or any shady shit
>next to no censorship on the right pods

fpbp

i dont feel anyhow
i still comunicate with the people i care about
and just forgot about all the other 200+ "facebook friends"

stopped having feelings for people that aren't in my life.

The problem is, social media usage is just a symptom, not a cause. You are on social media right now, probably posting 10x more than normal.

The real cause is modern life itself is fucked up.

Considering what Google has done to Youtube I see a market opening for a competitor to make a superior service. Find disgruntled Youtubers and make them an offer in exchange for exclusivity. Get Pewdiepie to upload to your site in 4K and a week later he uploads to Youtube in 144p.

I started looking for a dumb phone again like the nokia 1110 but it seems every single phone now runs android. The cheapest phone my phone company provides is android. I genuinely want to get rid of this fucking smartphone so that I can have a long battery life and never have to worry about it being stolen or broken.

>I never looked back.
same here. Will never create another social media account. Adds absolutely nothing to your life.

Do you remember what was written in that email?

I've never had one in the first place. The moment I learned about them I immediately thought that it's a dumb fucking idea.

Here in third-world country dumbphones are still somewhat relevant here, mostly hovering around 20usd

Unironically, Twitter is already pretty close to it. Even Stallman had nothing to say against it until using it without JavaScript became almost impossible and it required a phone number.

The thing about facebook and instagram is that it is not that different to real life. It is a shitty version of the real life elements it reproduces, but still not that different. A girl looking for attention walks around the place and gets high on the looks, just as she does on instagram with likes. A guy dresses in fancy clothes to pretend he is rich, just like he does on instagram with his photos of rented hotels.

The real problem is that we are more isolated and we don't have any meaningful direction or purpose in our lives and so we waste it on these procrastination sites.

I never had social media to begin with. I could tell in 2005 that Facebook was cancer

there are some other video companies chipping away at different niches within that space rather than directly competing with youtube. eg twitch, younow, streamable.

Deleted it like two years ago

I was a pretty fucking pathological liar on facebook, if they have any data on me, it's probably a cloud of bullshit, even the name.

what i'm afraid of however is that i had a legit account, real name, real pics, real friends, fuck.

I stopped using it 3 years ago, but I wish I could convince my parents to do the same.
They're not very technological and every single one of them think I am simply being paranoid about it.

Deleting Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat/others is the best thing you can do to reduce anxiety and boost productivity.

I also recommend to disable internet connection when you're at home when you're annoyed.

I only signed up for facebook in university because it was how everyone wanted to communicate for some reason. Working on a group project? Let's make a facebook page for it! Need to send someone a file? Send it through facebook chat! This came with the side effect that everyone you worked with or knew was constantly updating you on their life like you cared what they ate for breakfast or where they went on the weekend.

I dropped it as soon as I graduated and suddenly nobody from school talked to me anymore--and it was great.

> (OP)
>Bumping this. Have fb, wanna delete.
Just do it. Youll feel like a better person

I first started because some girl wanted me to join. Girls want attention so try to make guys join. Guys join and give them attention.

I deleted all my social media accounts a year or so back because of Sup Forums. It was a great advice that I learned from you Sup Forumsuys and its one of the best decision i've made. I feel a lot different; I have more time on my hand, I don't look at my phone as much, I stopped caring for likes and shares and whatnot, etc. Thanks Sup Forumsuys.

>dat feel when you have to have a facebook for work

Goddamit I really don't want to use this shit.

This is completely untrue. All of my friends talk to each other with a combonation of normal texting with their numbers and sending pictures of their faces with text over snapchat. All my friends are 20 so maybe it matters what age group you're in.

your friends are complete faggots, and you too probably

is github a social media

I'd have to agree.

It's honestly a good feeling. Once you step outside of the narcissistic and hugbox-friendly culture that social media enables, once you observe it as an outsider, you can really see how ridiculous it is. And you will feel glad that you're not a part of it. As jaded and cynical as it sounds, social media really does turn people into toxic narcissistic sociopaths. You don't need that, and you don't need them.

I will also add that leaving social media causes you to become a better judge of character, interestingly enough. Girls that you would have been desperate for before, you will be disgusted by because of their lack of sense and dignity, but also disgusted at your former self for your lack of standards. And you'll have greater insight on society in general, and all the people in it. I have a lot more to say about this topic, but I'll leave it at that because I don't want to go off topic. Delete your social media!

>have practically lived online using all real info, pics and send all private messages through Snapchat or Facebook since I was a kid

Is it too late for me?

All your info has already been fed to "the beast".

When I realized that if you're ugly having a facebook/snapchat/instagram is fucking pointless.

/thread

Have old accounts I don't know password to or password to email to what do

Oh god
quit now

Then just delete it and let them text you if it's actually worth saying in the first place.
I never had facebook and keep up with friends around the world anyways.

>Snapchat and Facebook since I was a kid
UNDERAGEB& GTFO

deleting facebook was honestly one of the best things ive done.

i wish i never made one in the first place.

I use facebook as a messaging app because all my normie mates use it instead of whatsapp etc. I don't use it as social media and don't look at it beyond replying to messages. I don't know how people have the time to update shit all the time on all these different platforms.

i deleted my IRL account and made a shitpost account for the Hell groups that are decent

Bretty good user. No FB, twitter or instagram.

didnt feel much of anything because i barely used it anyway. i made a fb account, used it on and off for like a year. bunch of randoms that i barely even remember from school would add me and then never send me a message or anything.

my bday came around and people left me bday messages even though they never messaged me before. i mean it's nice they sent me that stuff, but it's just such fake bullshit. i deleted it like 2 weeks later and never used the site again.
