forgot the subject /glmg/ - GNU/Linux Minimalism General
James Thompson
You fucked it up again. Where's Crux and Slackware?
Camden Butler
No more fucking distros. Fuckk off you inbred cunt
Dominic Hill
meanie!
Aaron Wood
>Slackware >not bloat LEL
Brandon Ortiz
>this picture
Fuck off, user. Can't live a second without woman?
Thomas Bailey
...
Isaac Davis
I used to think the same. But apparently Slackware installer lets you pick exactly what packages you want it to have. It can literally be as minimal or bloat as you desire. Also it doesn't use systemd.
Nathaniel Bailey
Yeah she's bloat. He should have put a cute loli like I did.
Lucas Hill
that whore is not minimal at all
Asher Walker
Whores are never mimimal you virgin
Angel Wright
Eat shit and die.
Chase Gray
you first
Michael Cox
Does anyone have advice on making my email more /minimal/? Currently using Thunderbird. I tried Mutt and Alpine. Neither of them were usable (SMTP never works no matter what I try).
Adrian Mitchell
alpine is too minimal. use fucking debian. god such fuckin brainlets
Austin Scott
>alpine the distro I meant the email client...
Justin Butler
whats the most minimal WM that supports unified theming of various qt and gtk applications? Openbox?
Austin Diaz
Your gtk and qt themes have nothing to do with your choice of WM. Back when I actually gave a shit about themes, I used to use lxappearance to change my icons and gtk theme. qt I think has a config option to have it mimic your gtk one.
Brandon Davis
ufetch isn't working even tho I have the latest nodejs. What do?
Evan Long
How much of ram do you guys usually use in this thread? Just curious
Hunter Ortiz
...
Carson Fisher
Most of my applications are totally in the terminal!
Is there any guide for a terminal only setup? Some things would be nice to have, like a statusline for example.
Lucas Taylor
Fuck minimalism. The most minimal thing about these threads is the smart.
Samuel Parker

Cameron Robinson
Even palememe ends up using quite a bit.
Angel Richardson

Ethan Green
Mutt isnt working? wtff
Isaiah Foster
8mb without xorg 20 with it and much more with firefox running
Gabriel White
this on a really oldlaptop
Nolan Wood
yeah. I try to use the builtin SMTP, it fails. I try to use postfix/sendmail or whatever, it fails. I try to use msmtp, it fucking fails. I try to use Alpine (the email client) as an alternative, and I have the same issue. IMAP works just fine. I can see my emails. But I can't get sending to work.
Caleb Ramirez
a really bad image of it without x
Lincoln Collins
>10MB wow
Noah Anderson
sigh. what distro are you using
Benjamin Garcia
Is she free as in freedom too?
Landon Lewis
I tried it on my MacOS host system. It shouldn't matter though, right?
Zachary Rivera
Alpine is the best I just came here to say this and will do so for the rest of this general's life.
Not mine, but if you know how to do this, pray tell
Lincoln Baker
Nigger it does mattrr. fuck off uwu nigger
Justin Anderson
>thread about minimalistic Linux >posts picture about attention whore Nixie Pixel No.
Jacob Nelson
>Nigger it does mattrr How?? does mutt have different config options on GNU/Linux or something? That seems highly unusual.
Luis Jones
YES BITCH. I KNOW YOU WERE FUCKING WITH ME. MUTT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE ON DEBIAN YOU FUCKING FAGGOT. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS FISHY. YOU ARE FUCKING USE MACOS YOU STUPID FUCKING BITCH MACOS ISNT FUCKING GNU. GNU IS NOT UNIX.YOU KEEP FUCKING COMPLAINING ABOUT IT NOT WORKING MULTIPLE TIMES. OF COURSE IT DOESNT FUCKING WORK, YOU ARE USING MACOS
Michael Lopez
how can you recognize someone from an image where you cant even see the face?
James Clark
You're an idiot. It's easy as hell, but if your a ranger user, save yourself time. It's broken. I'm not sure if ffmpeg crashes a lot, but that was an issue as well. I'm not ready to sacrifice basic programs for the sake being cool on these threads
Elijah Morales
>getting this triggered ok, ok. I'll try it on my void. I wasn't aware that mutt, a program that was most certainly not meant to be GNU specific, would fail on macOS.
Leo Gomez
>implying I use GUIs/desktops Terminal only Alpine for me, friend. Use it for my ssh purposes. Also calling others idiots in this thread isn't cool. Refrain yourself from that next time.
William Ramirez
I'm almost ready to do my Debian minimal install but before I got to it I'm stucked trying to figure out my lappy wireless card BEFORE going into the process. The thing is I downloaded Speccy to check my card and the thing seems to be malware... It goes haywire and RAM usage shoots up to 2-3 GiB and locks my 4GiB lappy. I have to shut down manually. I made a google search of Speccy malware and I got hit for CCleaner malware. Apparently CCleaner was using javascript to store info of targeted PC's on Sept '17 but apparently it's all resolved now. Makes me wonder if this is related to that.
tl;dr I'm stucked with Debian netinstall because of Speccy
Lincoln Jones
I have just installed Armbian (Ubuntu based) on my Odroid XU4 but I don't need the desktop environment for jack shit. It's a headless server. How do I remove the desktop?
Kevin White
you realize there are plenty of semi nudes of her? she even did a calendar
Ryder Walker
install alpine
Thomas Roberts
Can I install snapd on it?
Sebastian Rivera
>snapd I hope not no botnet/bloat please on Alpine
Xavier Cooper
whats that and why would i want it? it came with this distro but i removed it because it was not used for anything but it was always running and wasting ram.
Thomas Fisher
It's one of those new packaging systems. Flatpak would be another one. I could see wanting one of them on Alpine, because it could allow the running of applications that heavily depend on glibc.
Juan Diaz
>3DPD Dead thread, try again.
Ethan Hill
> Refrain yourself from that next time.
Be quiet idiot. Go massage your mom's feet for allowance
Ryder Robinson
slowly making it less bloated
Elijah Hernandez
I actually am research funded through Alpine and ssh reasons. Also, be nice please. We're just a small group of 20.
Oliver Morris
>in a minimalism thread >firefox Please use dillo only.
How are libthread and libtask better than pthreads? I ask because I have little experience with pthreads and none with the two.
>musl, ucLibc, DietLibc Same question as above. I took a quick glimpse on the documentation of one of these and they boast including less code in your source files than glibc. But how are they compared to glibc when it comes to time and memory performance of their procedures, stability, thread-safety and such?
Is Meson (a build tool) "harmful"? Is fltk "harmful"? Any non-"harmful" graphical libraries (I assume SDL is "harmful")?
>Emacs is harmful Now that's edgy.
Logan Gomez
umm check the archives. you newfaggot
Alexander Morgan
Using Void more and more daily since I'm still a winbaby because gayms but I love how it works since day 1.
Kayden Hughes
How do repositories work? I'm mostly curious if I need to be worried about what software I find and install from official AUR and Manjaro repositories or is the software moderated by Arch/Manjaro?
Cameron Jenkins
The default one in your Linux is managed by whoever made your distribution If you add them like in Ubuntu (the ppa thing) then that would be you telling Ubuntu to add a new repository that is not managed by Ubuntu
ranger works fine on Alpine you retard, you literally just comment out one line and it fixes the segfault
Michael Hughes
Anyone have any opinions on crux?
Isaac Wood
From what anons were saying in the old thread, it's one of the more minimal "suckless" distros out there.
Elijah Watson
Fuck no you nigger faggot. Im on to you. Stop spreading lies
Brayden Wright
Tbh, TempleOS is probably compromised after they caught him
Robert Cruz
that a viper-like album cover lmao love it
Noah Rogers
I installed linux like 3 weeks ago and ive tried ubuntu netinst with debian and now im on linux mint with cinnamon Will I get fucked too hard if I try dwm with lets say debian?
Zachary Collins
no you won't. dwm should work the same regardless of distro. Big note here though: never download it from your package manager. Always get it from suckless's website. dwm needs to be recompiled to reconfigure it (the config file is the C header file), so getting it as a binary package means you can't tweak anything. desu, I have no idea why distros pacakge it.
Leo Butler
today I learned t b h translates to desu. fuck this website.
Ryder Cooper
what distro do you think would be good to try it out for a newbie like me? Im probably just going to try it out in a virtual box for a whike
Julian Hernandez
what did google mean by this?
Luis Davis
>I try to use postfix/sendmail or whatever, it fails. So you can't send mail with postfix at all? As in sendmail "i can't stop sucking dicks" |sendmail [email protected] doesn't work? You didn't configure something in your SMTP server details correctly. Is it trying to submit to your ISP's server over port 25 instead of 587?
