absolutely

Would depend on the cost but I probably would. I currently have ATT dsl

Don't start a fight you can't win.

Are you stuck at 3.0Mbps?

hellooooooo autist

I forget. I think its somewhere around there

I hate speedtest.net

Yes.

I don't care if my connection is 20mbit or 20000mbit. It makes no difference when most websites don't even load at 20mbps.

But you can use a fast connection for more.

Like downloading stuff.

>1 Gbps Verizon Fios
$200/m

vs

>1 Gbps Google Fios
$70/m

but why? that makes no sense

yes.

Talk about severe autism...

I don't mind sticking with Charter if they get close to Google Fiber speeds for around the same price.

they wont

Yes

Also, fuck Verizon

Fuck yourself.

user, you have better internet than my parents do, and they live an hour away from me.

>the state of the U.S. internet

Why are you all using speedtest? There's always fearmongering about botnet on this board but have any of you read the privacy policy?

Only as long as they don't use that gay CGN shit.
But it'll never be available anywhere outside US, so who cares.

nigger everything is a botnet. Just accept your fate. If you really want to be off grid you would have solar, self-sustaining food, and no internet.

Yes, I got 10mbps atm

I'm just saying. You may be okay with speedtest selling various information about you, but I'm sure a lot of others aren't.

what's the best site to search for broadband providers in your area?

I hate google botnet but I would get it because I hate my shitty ISP even more.

I'm pretty sure going from my internet to google fiber would be the equivalent of going from a black and white tv with no sound to a 4k HDR tv with dolby atmos. I don't think I could comprehend the implications of having an upgrade like that

Honestly. I'm willing to give up freedom to have good internet... I have a shitty Australian ADSL 6mbps connection (barely even hits 6mbps)... Send help.

I want to say yes if I could tap into the fiber lines without using their (botnet backdoored) equipment. I have less than ok downstream and an absolutely abysmal upstream. I just really want a faster upstream so I can actually host things and upload things.

I would love the upload, but I'm more than fine with Spectrum Gig (940/35).

I have no idea how Google Fiber didn't start off in the big cities.

Instead, Google chose to start with fucking Kansas City. Kansas City. What the fuck. Google should have started its fiber services in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, etc. Dumb as fuck.

LA and NYC are both owned end to end by Verizon and TWC/Spectrum. Good fucking luck getting past two of the largest ISPs in the country to build your own fiber network.

OP here. Kansas City was held hostage by TWC/Spectrum until Google came and anally fisted them.

They still try to aggressively peddle their terrible cable internet to all. When their people approach me I just say I'm a Google Fiber customer and they immediately shut the fuck up.

...

Hell to the fucking yes

>If Google Fiber was available in your area, would you get it?
Yes I even signed a petition for them to do so a while back, but unfortunately our local monopoly is too strong.

speedtest.net reports speed lower than it actually is.

speedof.me is best for it

I was, within the last month, quoted 24$/month for 1mbps DSL as my best non-wireless option.

What do you think?

speedof.me is always much less accurate for me

sure only because it's cheaper than ATT, but otherwise I'm good on the speed front.

>virgin media
Seems like you made the right ISP choice.

You know Speedtests are going to vary even within a few minutes of each other, right? That's kind of how it works.

I want to move to Underriver, they have Gigaclear there.
1Gb unlimited for £80pm

30 cents a month for gigabits ya of course

You an Ookla shill?

No, I'm telling you how speedtests work, you autist. Try fast.com, openspeedtest.net, whatever others you want to use. They're all going to vary between the sites and servers and even minute to minute.

> Speedtests are going to vary even within a few minutes of each other, right?
That's why I just retested for you, autist.

nah, can't complain really
unless it cost me the same including a landline

For me the Speedtest app on desktop always gives better results than the browser test. It seems that the browser test doesn't run long enough to get to the full speed stats, like the desktop app.

It can't be variations in traffic, the difference can be up to 200Mbps.

It's not because our socialist government bans any of comcast's competition.

We can't stop the government from doing this because liberals/democrats literally support comcast and these government interventions in the name of "net neutrality".

I may not have the fastest internet there is, but it's pretty good considering I only pay 10€/month.

are you retarded

"win"? Verizon has better peering than google. Period. I win.

It's a 10 TB monthly soft data cap, meaning if you go over 10TB in a month they give zero fucks, if you continually go over 10TB a month, all the time, then they switch you to a business account, and lets be honest, if you regularly do over 10TB of traffic a month from HOME, you should be paying business class rates.

...

Yes. Currently I have 4 business grade connections to my house just so I can operate from home. Although I've managed to get a discount with the three ISP's I go through I'm still paying out of the ass for subpar connections. I have four 200/200 connections.

Honestly, why not just pay to have a fiber instillation?

You're probably looking at $10-20,000 depending on specifics, potentially more if you're rural as fuck. But it shouldn't be all that difficult.

I have the option for 2gbps from Comcast, all they want is $1000 to install it. They cover $15,000 of the installation costs. Then $150/month from then on for the service. No data caps, with static IP address.

>there are Sup Forums autists living in my metro area

I live in Australia and do have fibre optic but due to how the government and the company (NBN Co) charged with laying down fibre and set things up and run it they aren't allowed to provide gigabit even though the hardware is capable of it. It's fucking absurd. I've jumped through hundreds of hoops going back and forth with local policy makers, ISP's, NBN Co and other parties and I cannot get gigabit on a single line due to 'policies and regulations' but I can get 4x200/200 lines.

that should be criminal... Why you guys gave up on FTTP I will never understand, biggest fuckup of your entire countrie's existence so far.

Honestly no, I can get 500/250 (GPon fiber 5-25ms latency) or 500/120 (P2P fiber ~1ms latency) on the cheap and I'd sacrifice some speed for knowing my ISP doesn't care enough about me to spy on me.

>using botnet ISP

It's in the area I'm going too, but I hear they are slowly dying..

They'll probably be sold off to a larger ISP in the next few years, google is unlikely to expand and reinvest in it at this point.

Corruption, not stupidity.

Without any doubt of hesitation

I have gigabit internet available and I don't subscribe to it.

>tfw comcast only gives 1tb monthly cap for home

Depends on your state, in most of the north east there is no data cap (because we have actual competition)

Shitty government was voted in and scrapped it. It's pretty shitty. I'd be happy with 100 down and 40 up. But I can't even have that...

>tfw not even 16mbps down and undder 1mbps up

Yes. I pay 99.99/mo for 20down/1up DSL with no alternative

Only if it was free.

...

Same, except 9/10mbps Down, 892 Up. I just want faster up, honestly so I can do things outside my home.

The thing that pisses me off about Google Fiber is how fragmented its service area is. I currently live in a house that has Google Fiber, but in a few weeks I'll be moving into a different house six blocks down the street, in the same general neighborhood of the same city, and that house is not in the Google Fiber service area.

I try to keep away from Google stuff. I don't like the idea of my search history being turned into ads. That and I like my Verizon. 130$ a month for gigabit internet that's fine with me.

Nah, I live in a town that runs their own municipal fiber network, so my ISP is literally my city government.

I had one of those back in the day. When I clicked on network neighborhood I could see other peoples shares. hah.
