SpaceX is the only agency I'm aware of taking welfarbux from the fed. And SpaceX isn't the only competitor in the market, and frankly Blue Origin looks better from a performance standpoint. Beyond that engineering is a diverse field that can be applied to virtually anything, so no, the engineering grads don't owe Elon a bit of praise.
