If it's good enough for Linus Torvalds, it's good enough for you

It isn't good enough for him, though. He himself said he had to heavily modify it.

its for people that want to be redhats beta testers for free

>Implying someone who cant even install Debian can set the standard for whats good enough for me.

What makes you think that I share any of the same needs, wants, or preferences as Linus?

>using a kernel created by someone who cant even install Debian
Looks like you're the idiot here.

Literally contemplating live decisions now

i'll install it again once it gets stable. also, trisquel is better.

It's GNU/Fedora.
Linus Torvalds is just a kernel.

For me, it's the Fedora the best GNU/Linux distribution.

to me, it's not the distro that is important. it's the desktop environment and the package manager.

if fedora comes with a shitty desktop environment(like kde) i hate it even though i like fedora when i use it with a desktop environment i like

Why are you hating on the best DE?

Linus gets paid by Red Hat. It makes sense for him to eat their poop.

>sudo dnf install preferred-de
are you idiot or what? you can even have multiple de's and choose preferred one every time you log on

Come with me

Sorry I just don't like Facebook.

>want to do GPU passthrough
>all tutorials are in Fedora
>give it a shot
>?????
>jus werkz

It's literally a piece of shit tho

Ubuntu is so much better (till it gets hacked due to its popularity)

>Linus Torvalds is just a kernel.
His Tech Tips channel is pretty okay, too.

Fedora and Red Hat has the best virtualization support in all loonix distros.

Linus has no idea about distros.

Nice meme, but in reality you can do anything on any distro.

like how, did he detail the mods anywhere?

>you can do =/= best support

Should I use Fedora with XFCE then install KDE after? Or download the KDE version first?

Fedora + xfce is comfy.

>t. Brainlet
You also think Ubuntu is best for gaming, right?

it used to be until they decided to pull the plug for desktop

Ubuntu is shit

this is a /comfy/ thread now

>unregistered sublime

mods ban him please

everyone reply to him so he gets banned. it only takes 10 replies

personally I really dislike xfce. Think kde is the best to use, because it is the most similar to the windows environment which i'm used to.

I think both XFCE and KDE look hideous out of the box. But with both you can do tons of customization. Depends on what you want for memory usage or personal taste.
I also always felt like KDE was rather terrible with Fedora.

>KDE was rather terrible with Fedora.
y

Just felt half-assed and just kinda shoved onto it. Wasn't nice.

isnt KDE pretty much the same no matter the distro?

>not being a rebel by using the distro that made Linus yell at the maintainers because he had to sudo to change the printer settings on his kid's PC

Just like debian unstable it has a terrible brand name

Linux Devs are terrible Marketers.

yeah honestly the name is what I hate about it

riced the desktop, install screenfetch, classics...
Of course not, he will not use it by himself, jewhat pays him for ad.

>Marketing
>for a free OS

DESU I've had way better experiences with Fedora than with Ubuntu. I've had instances where ubuntu wouldn't support gfx/network hardware, but fedora would. I've always thought the Fedora install experience was nicer.

Sorry. I'm not an autistic Finngol

What's your point?

>Ubuntu is shit
This is true user, but that's only because all Loonix is shit.

At least he can install an operating system, unlike Stallman.

youtube.com/watch?v=umQL37AC_YM

I just actually gained some respect for this fat kike.

Linux is a (one) kernel.

Linus is completely uninvolved in the modern linux kernel actually. Really hr hasn't touched it since his uni days.

>le interjeckt maymay
kys

redhat is only company spending big on Linux desktop experience

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Lern tech winbabby.

>monolithic kernel
>"""tech"""

Running Fedora KDE and love it. RPM fusion is easy to get going, DNF is a great package manager, and the entire system is relatively bug free and fluid. I have tried other distros, but they never are quite the whole package like Fedora.

NSA Botnet

He's not using fedora anymore though.
Fuck off NSA/RedHat shills.

What does he use now?

No one knows. Most likely a Source Mage because it's so advanced, you should try it, it's for real BASH hackers!

Fake news

youtube.com/watch?v=S5S9LIT-hdc
>maybe I'm autistic or something
What did Linus mean by this?

wrong, i often see his pull requests

>if it's good enough for some random moron that nobody gives a shit about, it's good enough for you
quality argument

Last time I tried out Fedora, their software repository was really poor and I had to install RPMFusion to get the bare essentials, which I found to be really disgusting. I think that by default a distro should have everything I need.

then can you tell my why I get kernel panic when install the driver for my bcm43142?
arch linux does not do that

Hes not a nobody.

Dumb piece of shit Torovolos
Why doesn't he use Arch like a real hacker?

>If it's good enough for Linus Torvalds, it's good enough for you
that's the saddest marketing I ever read.

I wonder if he's aware of quick and painless it is to install an OS these days, probably thinks it's like how it was back in the 70s

>which I found to be really disgusting
>adding one repository is too difficult

fedora vs debian stable?

>no title bars
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

only problem i ever had was with my god forsaken graphics card but apart from that its real sweet.

debian ftw though

i3wm is superior to all DEs

do serious developers (working at google and shit) really use something like i3 at work?

Your happiness is fake news

Everything in Debian stable is like 3 years older than Fedora. Debian's concept of 'stability' has nothing to do with reliability.

>Ubuntu is shit
t. Brainlet

Kudos to suse

Guise I need help,
All I want is a linux distro to put on an old laptop and have its proprietary GPU drivers automatically installed.
>It's an old AMD Radeon HD 4350
>I don't want the open source drivers, they suck

I've tried manjaro, fedora and they only offer the open source, then I gave up.

Should I try ubuntu? I don't want to spend hours in terminal or searching thanks

Who cares about Torvalds.

>heavily modify

sudo dnf install gnome-tweak-tools

There are no proprietary drivers for old Radeon cards.
Fedora is great btw.
More stable than Arch, more recent than Debian and more libre and professional than Ubuntu.
And on top it's good and usable out of the box.

5 millions subs is not a joke.

Nobody, not until he put on the mask.

>There are no proprietary drivers for old Radeon cards.
support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=Legacy2&os=Linux x86

And this?

>no arm support
Get lost dweeb

> ctrl+f "selinux"
> no results found
Never change, Sup Forums. Always caring about the wrong things.

r u saying selinux is good or bad

I'm saying it's good, and Fedora with Gnome on Wayland is objectively the safest Linux desktop system available outside of ChromeOS.

>arm
the fuck you talking about? who cares about ARM

why gnome and not kde? that affects security too?

I've been saying that in dozens of Fedora threads. The red hat distros are the only ones with working MAC.Only fa/g/s don't know and don't care about it.

linus has redhat stocks
I don't

X11 is per design completely insecure. Wayland can't come soon enough.

It's good enough for Linus Torvalds, it's good enough for (You)

there is nothing that can't be fixed in X11
wayland is tablet-oriented trash

>X11 is per design completely insecure
Against what, my grandmother installing random Bonzai Buddy shit? Why would I make my grandma use X?
