Humor / Terminal commands

Can we have a linux terminal humor thread? The last thread we had was pretty fun.

Funny/Useful/Stupid commands welcome.

You're going to hate sl very quickly if you use it over a slow serial terminal connection.

...

Here's a quick shitty template.

Ubuntu is not really linux, I mean Ubuntu users don't really interact with linux, they interact with a layer of programs and a GUI stack, slapped on top of linux.

>he doesn't use ubuntu minimal + openbox
wew :)

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

DIR=dir/of/your/chan/pictures ORIG=$(date -d "Oct 1 UTC 2003" +%s); echo "$(find "$DIR" -regextype posix-basic -regex ".*/1[0-9]\{12\}\..\{3\}$" | grep -o "1[0-9]\{9\}" | sort | head -n1) $ORIG - $(date +%s) $ORIG - 5k / 100 * p" | dc | xargs printf "You are %.0f%% a newfag.\n"

explane

it's using the gcc /gnu compiler collection) to compile the short little piece of code defined between the "echo" and "gcc" part wich generates random noise, then uses aplay, wich is the default kernel level audiopalyer in linux to playback the compiled module
nothing special but pretty neat

there isn't anything random about it

This is a comfy meme.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Ubuntu, is in fact, Xorg/Ubuntu, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Xorg plus Ubuntu. Xorg is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Ubuntu system made useful by the Xorg-core, Xorg-server, Xwindow-manager and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the Xorg system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Xorg which is widely used today is often called "X11", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Xorg system, developed by the Xorg Project.

There really is a Ubuntu, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Ubuntu is the userland: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Ubuntu is normally used in combination with the Xorg desktop stack: the whole system is basically Xorg with Ubuntu added, or Xorg/Ubuntu. All the so-called "Ubuntu" distributions are really distributions of Xorg/Ubuntu.

>"You are %. 0f%% a newfag. \n"
You tried

Meant to reply to

not sure what you want to tell me

"Not easy, but worth it."

this iis a cute meme but i dont understand it.

My favorite.

You will understand when you try.

have you ever used bash?

ive got limited experience with linux and what i have is about 10 years out of date...im not even sure what bash is.

Bash is the command line shell typically used on Linux (and MacOS) these days. The little blob is supposed to be a unix shell, and it enters in a command or program in the first pane. In the second pane, it sits there, and nothing happens. Then, when it presses enter, the command entered is executed. This affects some change in the shell or system at large.

i get the jist of whats going on i just dont understand the commands, also dont get why its just sitting there in the second pane all the time.

Try running them in a unix shell

>also dont get why its just sitting there in the second pane all the time.
Because it hasn't pressed enter yet. Either that, or the person who originally made the template didn't want it to only be three panels.

curl -s -L raw.githubusercontent.com/keroserene/rickrollrc/master/roll.sh | bash

I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Most computer users who run the entire Linux operating system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.

>not just piping it

This is really neat

Anyone care to explain how this exactly works?

under rated

apt is trash

You're wrong. It's systemd/Wayland/Ubuntu now.

Nigga, what?

Why you make a folder called pub on the root dir?

this one took me a sec.

just
alias sl='ls'

it's a c program, which is piped into gcc to compile it, and then run... the program outputs an audio file (i.e. some binary), which is piped into aplay which plays it

Maybe stop fucking up typing ls then?

I like this

Kek

oh no he's retarded

Is there more?

That's hard links. Symbolic links are more like a Windows shortcut file, i.e. a pointer.

More precisely, it calculates 8-bit audio samples by the formula x = t * (42 & t >> 10), where t is the current sample number, and outputs to aplay, which defaults to 8 kHz mono audio output for raw input.
You also can experience with the Byte Beat app on www.windows93.net.

First one turns the manpage for G++ into a warm welcome to the balloon parade.

Second one turns the man page of bash into the navy seal copypasta.

Also, I think OP is a really nice guy, the best. And Hiro? I don't think there are any words in the english language to express my absolute fucking distate for this dumb fucking spam filter and jewgle captcha. If I ever meet hiro in real life I will cut off his penis, fuck his toes, rape his mother, and go pablo escabar on his stomach. Cut those intestines out, wrap em around his throats, fuck him from behind, and use em like reigns. Hiro is my horse-boy and I am his rider. Neeeeigh.

>Error: Our system thinks your post is spam. Please reformat and try again.

Eatshit, hiro. Sell this website already so I can stop coming here.

>Started using a linux a little bit ago

At least I get the train one.

Those, who created these bytetunes are geniuses.
