You always get Federal Holidays (of which there are 10) off in the states unless you're working a seasonal position. Taking a few weeks in the summer and winter off is also common.
Id say the average is around 18-20 days off, give or take. If you work more than that you're expected to be oven a bonus. I worked over Christmas last year and my boss paid me quadruple my wage to come in to work.
