That's interested. I just discovered a bunch of artists related/compared to Reich, but have not delved into Reich yet.
every time I try to find the words to explain how important this is for me I fail
Been listening to more Jackie-O Motherfucker since I'd only listened to one album before and they're very consistently amazing so far.
To elaborate, if you don't know about this guy, he is credited with being one of the inventors of Minimalism, and similarly to what this dude says he turns out to be related to a whole bunch of shit I like, namely super repetitive krautrock and other stuff like spacemen 3.
link?
Literally not a single mention of this band in the archive, either.
Butterfly Train.
I guess they could be considered a Built to Spill side project? Longtime BTS bassist Brett Nelson was the frontman.
Drums of Passion, some tradition African music
Not trying to derail the thread but James Blake's new album really is everything I wanted and more
forgot pic
Also this
You fuck with Hallelujah Chicken Run Band or Kassa Tessema?
dude, awesome.
you might like or dislike this, but i think it is well done. this group did an album of Black Sabbath covers, in the style of ancient church music using baroque instruments with the lyrics translated into latin and all this shit. (excuse my possibly incorrect specifications of all these details)
NICE
Yeah man this is definitely very good. I like this style, I think the Santo Domonigo De Silos Monks did stuff sort of like this, covering popular stuff but it's extremely layered and hidden through the chants.
I had an album, I believe it was some sort of field recording of tribal Indonesian music. The first song started with some plucked arpeggios and then shrill but really expressive and powerful singing. Probably female. never been able to find it
I am now seeing that there are 20+ volumes of Smithsonian field recordings of indonesian music
It was probably among those.
Fuck. Hard to find.
Nevermind I found it in 5 minutes. I have no idea why I think this is related to the post about african tribal music.
nice
i've been looking for drum-centric african music but all i can find is exotica
Reminds me a bit of a music of Madagascar album I have
what's exotica?
is it this

For me the best african shit ever is Radio Mali
This is my go to album for that certain late night mood. weirdly, it's one of the most psychedelic albums I've ever heard.

Reich is a great contemporary composer.
He got started in the 60's, way before Spacemen 3, or even Kraftwerk.
When you've listened Reich, try Philip Glass to compare and contrast.
Good to see so much african music in here... i've recently just discovered Fela Kuti and Tony Allen etc and cannot get enough. What's your favourite Fela release bros?
dunno i kinda like em all.. haha
Inna Pivars & The Histriones
Rafael Anton Irisarri
Tracy Bryant
I've been getting really into Tangerine Dream recently. I own Zeit and Hyperborea on vinyl, and I think I prefer Hyperborea.

When I was younger, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I'm older see it face to face
And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place.
And I was green, greener than the hill
Where the flowers grew and the sun shone still
Now I'm darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down, give me a place to be.
And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I'd see when day is done
Now I'm weaker than the palest blue
Oh, so weak in this need for you.
god damn we lost a brilliant one
Ministry
always ignored them because of the industrial label
