Jackson C. Frank is such a sad case, man. I can see myself turning out the same way, but without the talent.

Townes Van Zandt, listen and weep into a bottle of vodka, or water if you're sensible: youtube.com/watch?v=3hrfjSaW8TQ

Crack the Skye kicks ass but I doubt it's a contender for saddest album, OP.

How about some meme albums like rollercoaster, the white birch or star is just a sun?

Fuck off

Doesn't get much more forlorn than this.

>a white ship sails on a black sea
>takes my love from me
>and it takes so long
>but then I understand
>i understand.

didn't this suck though?

Carrie & Lowell.

OP here, I'm inclined to think it is, but I am very personally attached to CtS.
I had listened through it a couple of times and thought it was a great album. After one of my closest friends committed suicide however, I listened to it nearly non-stop for a week. I later read up on the whole deal about the album really being about the suicide of Brann's sister Skye, and how he was found trying to dig her out of her grave and all that, and it clicked with me. The lyrics and the story of the paraplegic boy astral traveling to the Czar weren't supposed to make sense; like the compositions, they are abstract thoughts meant to convey those sometimes hysteric feelings of despair from after a loved one has committed suicide.
Listening to it still brings me to tears, the last two songs being downright heartbreaking.

I have gotten some good responses in this thread, though, and I wouldn't be too surprised if there were much sadder stuff out there, but I have yet to hear something as immersive and sad as Crack the Skye yet.

I honestly think that it's the best pop punk album from the last 10 years

Soupy voice is so full of emotion

And I wanted to be brave it's a lyrical masterpiece

The whole album it's really fucking good

cool I've listened to and mostly liked all their other albums so guess I need to check it out

It evokes a huge range of emotions, though it's sad and heartfelt I wouldn't call it the saddest.

Pic is to me the most immersive album when it comes to not being happy. To the extent of being so sad that it has turned from sad into disturbing. OP I can see why the sadness of losing someone to suicide can be damn sad, but to have music that does it from the perspective of the one who committed such an act goes to a whole new level.

I think it has to be this. The album itself is depressing enough and makes you feel as if you are drowning. But the back story to it, honestly makes it even more depressing.

pic related is a fair nomination though.

I agree. This album, to me, involves so much self-loathing as to no longer see oneself as human. It is very draining.

If you like female singers, this one takes the cake of sadness, disappointment and heartache that occurs in life, especially after the loss of a girlfriend, just skip the song "Zombie" because it's annoying as fuck

what is the back story? I love this album, can't believe there was one without me knowing about it

>it's a "A song is bad if it's very popular" episode

it's mostly just generic pop rock

It's not a long story, but it seems that the guitarist who also does vocals got an arm injury that resulted in him not being able to ever play guitar again, and killed himself in 2008. Weighing Souls with Sand seems to be his "swan song".

this isn't sad, though, I find it extremely uplifting with shades of melancholy

ultimately it's hopeful though, I think

I'm Irish and Zombie hits me hard as fuck

maybe you have to be Irish to appreciate the lyrics I dunno

it's a good song he's just being contrarian

pretty sad but also really joyful, easy one of my favourited abums from the last years

...

Anger is a little more fitting.

>filename
Also, agreed. This album is amazingly beautiful.

...

>dude my dead sister is a bear now lmao

Feelgaze

definitely getting feels with this album, holy shit

...

Nah, the way he talks about pain, or how helpless the second half of a Screw is, or I'll Do Anything For You, or all of Coward. Anger's definitely there, but it's the ultimate helplessness within the submission of early Swans that reigns supreme.

i'm honestly fucking embarrassed by how often i listen to this album. so good

it's not a bad song because it's popular, it just doesn't fit the album's mood, and it's a shame that Zombie gets played the most on FM crap radio because it's angst-y grunge worthy alternative 90's rock, there are far better songs on "No need to argue", than the infamous annoying ZOMBIE

the lyrics are all fine and good, but the vocals are not aesthetically pleasing on the ears.

I'm not being contrarian, everyone in the whole fucking world can love that song all they want, I can do without it, I find it very boring

>vocals
>aesthetically pleasing

great regurgitation on your part, I'm impressed

i find this album quite soul crushing desu

thank you

once i read le backstory i cry everytiem

who wants to listen to someone wailing on going Zombie ie ie ie ie ie ie ie ie ie forever and ever, it's a childish and stupid song, that I'm sure the lead singer Dolores hates it to this very day....their biggest hit, is a crap song, it's like Blur being known for "Song 2" aka the woo hoo song, it has to be dumb as fuck for people to like it, dumb it down for the masses

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting

Maybe the Stranger and Titan, but the rest of the album is pretty uplifting IMO

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY

certainly not that one

Always fucks me up. The Kursk usually hits me the hardest.
