Suicide.

Nobody needs another fucking rapper, seriously.

don't it's too late
hip hop is at its all time low with trap any kid can make a hit now and then fade away
go make edm or start a band tbqh
hip hop is dead

future, young thug are already getting washed up with kids like yachty and uzi getting popular by the second

People told me bands were outdated; EDM sounds cool though. What if you wanted to be an underground rapper?

Be unique.
Don't do some generic trap shit or whatever, try to innovate.

go right ahead

I grew up with a guy who's considered the best battle rapper in my region, and watched him developed.
Things he's done right:
from the very beginning he was writing CONSTANTLY, filling notebook after notebook full of verses he'd come up with. He has great, witty, vivid verses, and he's not pretentious at all. His favorite rappers are Method Man and Danny Brown - this is not high brow stuff. But he works his ass off being as good as possible. Most people he knows who want to be rappers sound pathetic and lazy compared to him, because they're not as dedicated as he is. He's obsessive.

Find the rap community around you. Some people suck - most of the hip hop groups in our city are pathetic. Most of the rappers who went to our high school, and my college, sucked. But then he found a group of rappers who volunteer for a hip hop radio show, and they're all great. They gave him practice freestyling, they were critical peers, and they were supportive. Finding other people to bounce your work off is a huge asset.

Take every practice opportunity you can, even when you don't feel like it. The people you meet and battle will push your forward and give you valuable experience.

Things he did wrong:
Don't let mediocre rappers weigh you down. He's spent too much time working with the lazy wannabe rappers we grew up with, and isn't taking advantage of the impressive people he's met. He does this out of loyalty. This is a mistake.

Take advantage of opportunities. Don't stay in your hometown if there isn't a worthwhile scene there. Find out who the biggest names you have access to are, and record with them. The more weight your name carries, the more important people will want to work with you as producers, DJs, etc.

Are you black?

If so, get dreadlocks and dye them an abnormal colour. Start dressing weirdly. Find a weird voice and rap over trap beats with this voice. Make weird ad lib sounds. Say weird shit in general.

You will become a superstar within the month.

Are you white?

Don't bother.

Study Drake for rhythm.
Study Nas for rimes.
Study Kendrick for delivery.
Study Madlib and Noah 40 for beats.

My advice is to start writing down rhymes, and then say them back aloud to yourself. Listen to hip-hop songs that you already like and use the artist's flow to remix your own lyrics.

Your aim is to become a poet of sorts. So get to writing. Think up themes around which you can center your rhymes, but remember that in hip-hop what you're saying usually isn't as important as how you say it. So make sure to practice and make sure your stuff sounds cool when you actually say it out loud.

lol

if u really wanna rap you gonna rap.
either u a rapper or u not.
its the way it is.

you literally gotta not care about being successful and get satisfaction from the fact your music is finished rather than people appreciating it. its a lot more interpersonal to be focusing purely on words you are delivering to an audience rather than honing the skill of playing an instrument

write a list of all the things you currently think a rapper "should" rap about. Probably money, struggle, women, etc. Proceed to never rap about any of those things. Or if you do, only do it if you're gonna say something about that thing that has never been said.

this reads like a backpacker reddit poster

Hip-hop is dead.

Master a British accent and make grime. That's where the money's at.
