Gnome is bloat

>gnome is bloat

i debunked this myth

it's only bloat when it's fedora gnome

gnome is bloat though, doesn't matter how much you show on your workspace buddy

it's either fedora or the gdm

I'm not impressed. 600MB RAM in use just sitting with a terminal open is rubbish.

why is it rubbish when windows and mac use up over 1 gb with no windows open?

I said nothing about windows or mac, and I don't use either. Obviously using more than a GB just sitting with no windows open is ridiculous. I was comparing GNOME with a non shit linux desktop like XFCE.

>gnome
>manjaro
>ricing
>terrible rice
>cantarell 11

literally kys

gnome with manjaro only uses 200 mb more than xfce. big fucking deal.

It's not ridiculous there is tons of stuff that goes on the background. You just arbitrarily throw a fit over a non-issue because you're autistic

just use xfce and you'll forget about bloat

Just not be autistic about your ram usage when you have like 8gb free

Install LXQt.

some people actually use their computers for stuff other than jerking off to porn and posting retarded shit on Sup Forums and might benefit from not having 10% of their memory wasted

Damn right!

I use my computer to jerk off to retarded shit and post porn on Sup Forums,

haaahaaahaaaa

>Tons of stuff that goes on the background
>Thread about bloat
Jesus Christ pajeet, reading comprehension.

You definitely don't use your computer for any work when you're installing obscure Linux distributions and bitching about non issues like your OS ram usage

>my OS is bad because it uses an amount of ram I arbitrarily deem unacceptable because I'm autistic and like to convince myself that this is important

Meh, KDE with systemd is like 400 meg.

>600mb RAM used
HAHAHAHA

>starts a tiny dick contest
>guy next to you blows you the fuck out with a smaller dick
>it... its not a big deal!

uh, don't start stupid threads then chump

>600MB on *fetch.

With just urxvt and neofetch I have around 240 MB of used RAM from 3.8 GB

>single
>threaded
>shell

>622MiB
>not bloat

...

pretty good OP, if I had 8GB ram I'd consider running it
le arch is bloat meme

Fucking bloat.
Back in the day 128 mb of RAM was a bloat too. So GNOME is a fucking bloatware.

>600+ MB
>not bloated
consider sudoku

>nathan
>manjaro
Checks out.

Too bad it still lacks the file picker bloat.

When you're voluntarily not on 4.16

>gnome is bloat
and sux too

that looks like what you'd find if you walked into the special ed room of an elementary school and the teacher allowed the smarter kids to use technology one day a week so the disctrict allowed them to use that

good comparison
>let me excuse the bloat of my system by comparing it to the absolute worst offenders of bloat
try comparing it to a minimal gentoo installation, or even a devuan system with xfce

Just reporting in. Full time developer running Void GNU/linux with just i3 at work. Never had any problems.

>Oh no, this terribly bloated distro uses almost a whole gigabyte of the 16 I have! How could I live with this?
Autism.

My windows uses around 500mb ram.

>Packages: 1144
>RAM: 622MiB
Just fucking leave man and never come back. You filthy pig.

A
FUCKING
FOOT

>tfw 8gb
>tfw ramlet

boy, i have openbsd running on pentium 2 with 32mb of ram, and it's usable. take you 600mb and shove it up your ass.

>why is it rubbish when windows and mac use up over 1 gb with no windows open?
They are not exclusives. They both are rubbish.

I don't understand you people why do you even care about ram? you have fucking 8gb available

>Just reporting in. Full time developer running Void GNU/linux with just i3 at work. Never had any problems.

I was the same when I worked as IT. Can confirm that and that developers there used Manjaroo and Plasma.

you are the reason for 32mb large web pages.

>measuring ram usage
Why? Why not actually benchmark something fundamental like window rendering?
Or even just start times.

BLOOOOOAATTEEDDD

I don't know what XFCE is or does sorry.

>it's fedora
Get on my level

What's that cute little sprite thing from?

>much less features than KDE
>still more bloated

github.com/stark/color-scripts

Called elfman

>over 1k packages
Yeah it's bloat

Becuase is BS, KDE is bloated as hell (in memory and options), but disabling Akanodi and Baloo makes use less memory.

It is though. (and I rebooted before I took this)
I want to move to Openbox so badly but I can't afford to be without my school laptop at full capacity in the middle of the semester.

If you use a graphical login manager, you should be able to set up another session with openbox to mess around with.

I've used linux for years but I'm still not comfortable in my ability to not break everything when I mess with stuff (It happens far less frequently than it did at first, every year or so instead of every month). I worry that I'd break the session manager or xorg or something else and have to reinstall rather than waste time fixing it all.

Only when it's a clean install, not on very high RAM and possibly 32bit.

Personally, I prefer Cinnamon I like much more over GNOME and Cinanmon is waaay mooore comfier to me than GNOME ever will. Cinnamon is fucking great even if it does feel a lot like a Windows. I'd honestly rather stick to Cinnamon over WinShitBotnet anyday. Cinnamon is just just nice and simple and that's just the way I like and prefer muh de. I'm not autistic enough to switch over window managers, though

font?
fetch?

>All that fucking wasted terminal window space just for a fucking fetch

Resize that terminal profile size, nigger

nobody cares that you have ocd

>the theme of the thread is optimization
>LOL WHY DO YOU CARE THAT YOU'RE NOT BEING OPTIMAL
yes, he's the one with autism
not you
never you

>all these faggots intentionally wasting idle RAM
no wonder you faggot NEETs never get anything done

If I remember correctly it’s Misc Tamsyn. The fetch is just neofetch but the scrot ran before the command finished.

what can you do with it?

gnome wayland causes mpv playback micro stutter (probably mutter)
weston doesn't
>arch
>radeon

>622mb ram usage when idle

Yup, bloat.

Meanwhile, glorious Xfce uses half the memory and looks twice as good.

>Using 30% more ram for something that looks worse is fine

The absolute state of gnome users.
