anybody care to explain what pvrpose this or hotmail desktop serves? does it gives any advantage over browser gmail client?

it saves your emails locally.

>gmail
nice bait there

thunderbird supports multiple e-mails at once from almost any provider and saves e-mails locally
also the performance is 9000< times better than using browser's cancerous javascript client

Why don't people use Evolution? It's much more cleaner and faster imo

cause i never heard of that

>saves stuff locally
>RSS
>can manage as many addresses as you wish all in the same place
>is (or at least feels) safer than doing stuff with the same browser you use for porn

>Evolution
Just Geary for me, thank you very much.

Claws mail user here

Claws is brilliant but doesn't play nice with 2 factor authentication, at least not with Office365

Gmail is what it is, but for many people including myself it's too late to go back.

>does it gives any advantage over browser gmail client?
For personal everyday usage they're total overkill of course. Things like that are for working with hundreds/thousands of mails and mail accounts.

True. I have not bothered with 2fe so I don't know about this. But I have used claws for several years now. It suits me

>try to open an email from a client with 10 mb worth of attachments
>takes a few seconds to open
>open another email in a new tab
>switch to previous email with the 10 mb attachment
>takes a few seconds to load

Fucking fuck Thunderbird. What a piece of huge shit it is.

>working with Kekzilla's products in 2018
You asked for this.

Works on my machine :^)

I'd like to see you transcoding 10MB of base64 in a whim.

>not using the superior Mail.app

what is a better alternative to gmail?

bokunopico.com

any non-botnet client
cock.li is breddy good

are you using a toaster?
I have literally 0 problems with thunberbird on ubuntu(or arch or any other distro) on a 10 year old laptop

protonmail

>those domain names
what if I want to get hired somewhere

HR tend to be women, so they'll subconsciously say "cock... yummy... HIRED!"

literally on the main page, second domain name is airmail.cc, nothing wrong with that

When you have multiple mail accounts, Thunderbird is a great way to have them all in one place. Also, web clients for mail are mostly terrible tbqh.
Thunderbird also has a really useful ability to set up complex custom filters.

It's still on the same page as multiple Nazi memes, and of someone gets curious about your domain they'll look it up.

I have windows 8.1 and just use the mail app that comes with it, never gave me any problems and does it's job.

If your email provider doesn't have a web interface, then it fucking indispensable

You should ALWAYS use a separate email for important formal shit like applications anyways so people can't just search your email and see all the different sites you're a part of.
Simply forward your emails from it to the one you mostly use.

If you are in IT it definitely pays off to just host your own email domain by the way. It comes over as a hell of a lot more professional than just resorting to the good old [email protected]

thunderpird :-DD

>not going to your interview with [email protected]

this

>have to start using two emails after years of having only one address
>decide to install a proper email application like a civilized white person
>out of the loop completely, recall Thunderbird
>install it and start fiddling around
>suddenly it freezes when I try to move several hundred mails to another folder
>ISuckCocks.js is not responding
>what the flying fuck is this JS webshit even doing here
>after a few minutes shamefur dispray, Thunderbird finally manages to unfuck itself
>check the memory usage
>450 MB
>mfw

What is wrong with software developers nowadays?

It isn't multi-platform.

If I wanted to spend my time learning an e-mail client that only works on a OS, I would use Outlook or Apple Mail

javascript

I can access my 10+ email addresses at once and access all emails offline.
Also RSS reader.

Stop using Windows. Never had problems with Thunderbird on Linux.

defeatist shill

>does it gives any advantage over browser gmail client?
Yes, not having to use the browser.

>Stop using Windows
I'd love to, but to do that I'd have to start using it first.

Then upgrade thunderbird to the latest stable version. You are probably using some outdated or bleeding edge distro.

Compact your mail folders once in a while to speed things up.
