It's 2018 why don't we have 64-bit colour yet?
It's 2018 why don't we have 64-bit colour yet?
No point when there's no visible quantization with 8 bits.
The human eye can only differentiate between 256 different colours (8 bit).
We do,
Bull fucking shit, just like how humans can't see past 60 Hz right?
Human eyes can dither input, which is why 8bit is more than enough
What about super see-ers for whom 24bit colour still looks dull and washed out. The monitor fidelity crystals just aren't doing it for me anymore.
*sigh*
videophiles are the worst
we don't need it

Suck my dick

how new are you?
...
Less if you're colorblind
only racists see color
16bit should be enough. I still see gradations on 10bit and it pisses me off.
We already do with subpixel rendering, you ignoramus.
you have a 30bit+ display?
i certainly hope you're trolling
monitors can't hear past 32 volts
almost choked on my coffee I don't know why this is funny
my sgi workstation did
no one really cares
Alright then tell me, what is this a picture of if your eye can differentiate between similar colors
410 Hz 128-bit monitors when?
Vulkan supports shitloads of color formats, including 256bit modes
We just gotta wait a decade three to use it
Why did they spend time doing that? Graphic APIs rarely last more than a handful of years.
It's arbitrary
They could have made it 5 billion bit capable just as easily
>2 bits per channel RGBA
MODS
>muh microsecond reflexes
The human eye can only perceive 256 colours at 69FPS, max res 420p.
there's a difference between perception and conscious reflex
even if you can only react to something 200ms after you perceived it, if you perceive it 2ms sooner, you're still 2ms ahead
The human eye can see 7,000,000 colors.
RGB color is 8 bits. So altogether for the colors you have 24 bits. Each color has 256 shades available so we get 256 x 256 x 256 for each color. The result is 16,777,216 colors which can be displayed.
We don't need more bit depth, we need a larger color space. Unfortunately, three colors are insufficient to reproduce every color the human eye can perceive, even though we only have three types of cones, and even if you can vary each color with infinite precision.
The issue is that we don't have the ability to /independently/ simulate each of our cones: en.m.wikipedia.org
*stimulate
>RGB color is 8 bits.
8bit RGB is 8bit.
"RGB" doesn't stipulate how many bits there are
>TIL scientists who are just now learning that people's heads can be sustained are able to know exactly how many colors we can see.
I'm calling bullshit here.
>The human eye can see 7,000,000 colors.
[citation needed]
I'll wait till vsauce makes video about this.
you can't see past 23fps.
astronomers use 48-bit color images and some very special people can see more colors.
