/Phil Collins/

Let's just talk about how amazing he is. Genesis better after that hack Peter Gabriel left.
Best Genesis song?
Best solo song?
Also...dump some Phil.

He really is a genius. His arrangements and instrumental ability far surpass that of Prince's but it's cool to hate on Phil Collins' pop music because he's white, even though he was just as influential to the 80s sound. When Face Value came out nothing sounded like it

>but it's cool to hate on Phil Collins' pop music because he's white
No one thinks that, you weirdo.

There is literally no other reason why he gets so much criticism. His feet are held to the fire for the color of his skin, while hacks like Prince are celebrated around the world for writing hits like "Jack U Off"

Well idk where you're from where that's the case, but it could be because I'm British. People adore Collins, all ages, here.
I just think it's cause Prince had more of an image, which is what made him an icon, like Bowie. If Phil made himself an image, he'd be celebrated the same way.
Also I've never seen or heard anyone dismiss Phil because he's white.

Dumping some of my favorite Collins Genesis tunes.

The Face Value version of Behind the Lines is good too

Just listened to the whole Genesis discography for the first time. It's funny how Phil's voice is so similar to Peter's. It's almost like Bon Scott vs Brian Johnson. Still their every album sounded almost the same after Gabriel left. I won't be surprised if they actually just the same melody with slight changes.

But Phil is amazing really. I'm very fond of his '80s production.

One question though: I tried listening to Face Value after No Jacket Required. And for some reason In The Air tonight sounded really cloudy, weird, I don't know. What's the deal with its production?

>best Genesis song
One for the Vine

>best solo song
Take Me Home

But I like Peter Gabriel better tbqh.

Brian Johnson sounded vaguely similar to Bon Scott at the beginning but after a while his voice became virtually unlistenable.

That picture looks like it could have been taken today. Just some random millenial hipster dude.

I don't think people hate Phil Collins because he's white, it's just that his music was overplayed in the 80s to the point that people got sick of him. Not his fault, mind you, but I can see how someone would get annoyed by that.

And to add insult to injury, the overplayed tracks are usually his weakest. People know him for Sussudio, Against All Odds, You'll Be In My Heart and shit like that, but his music is far beyond sappy love songs/ballads and not everyone is exactly aware of that. There's a lot of hidden gems in his solo albums, especially Face Value, Hello and Both Sides.

It's where mac de marco lifted his style

Brian Johnson alway looks like he puts inhuman effort into pushing sounds through his mouth. It's like he's trying to shit every time he sings.

Actually, funny thing: you may have heard Axl Rose has swapped him for the current AC/DC tour. The irony is… Again, it's hard to tell the difference for me. It's much smaller than you'd think.

But the best part is that his voice is so much fuller of energy. Axl may have been a crazy guy, but his voice is just amazing.

both sides is his best album

Don't Lose My Number is a song about a jew running away from an antisemitic group.

>mfw there are two Phil Collins threads at the same time, so I assume Phil has died.

hell be fine

He made the only good Tomorrow Never Knows cover to exist, so props for him

I want to start to listin Phil Collins, any recommendations albums where to start ?

Genesis - A Trick of the Tail or Duke
Solo - Face Value or No Jacket Required

Why do I see Hello, I must Be Going recommended on most lists? No Jacket Required is so much better imo

I assume it's because Hello is more on the same vein of Face Value, which is usually regarded as his best album.

No Jacket Required is better to me because it's more consistent, while Hello has some bland tracks here and there and I don't really like the You Can't Hurry Love cover.

Always loved this one.

dubs don't lie, RIP Phil.

I love Phil, No Jacket Required is in my top 5 ever. That is all I have to say on the subject.

I remember someone saying that David Draiman sounds a lot like Phil Collins.
