Rockist racists

racism and homophobia

Because they're stupid. They also lack the contextual understanding to appreciate how much the seeds it planted changed music forever.

Try hard >muh Led Zeppelin, "i only listen to REAL rock and roll" DUDE WEED LMAO plebs being plebs

Gays and blacks. Also because it sucks but that's just an excuse.

/thread

It dominated mainstream radio for years, presumably people turned on it because it was seen as the lightweight pop of the day

>In March 1978, the Bee Gees held the top 2 positions on the US Charts with "Night Fever" and "Stayin' Alive", the first time this had happened since the Beatles. On the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for 25 March 1978, five songs written by the Gibbs were in the US top ten at the same time: "Night Fever", "Stayin' Alive", "If I Can't Have You", "Emotion" and "Love is Thicker Than Water".

True, but they also tend to think that any music that's dance-centric, synthesized, not rock-based, or lyrically unrelated to the straight white teenage boy's frustrations isn't "real music", so there's no way to win.

Musically, disco is the anthesis of the popular black music preceding it. Without dark lyrical content and social/political messages, disco was a return to the classic fun, feel-good dance music from about a decade prior.

What's interesting about this to me is that disco is basically just black punk-- a response to a bloated dead horse in the music industry. Punk's loud return to simplicity is not really that far off from disco's quieter return to simplicity. Yet people who hate disco the most tend to be punk rock fans. Cest la vie I guess.

A handful.of purists complain that disco saw the death of real instruments and real musicians, but that's as bullshit about disco as it's bullshit about the Moog as it's bullshit about the theramin as it's bullshit about the electric guitar. New technogy is always gonna be feared.

To add to this, it's like looking back on listening to Skrillex or Indie Folk, the quality of the music is up for debate but it's more like looking back on yourself and who you were while listening to said music.

Because it's vapid beyond being fun to listen to and it isn't even that. Most of it's cheesy, tacky and annoying.

The quality never really mattered to me. For the most part it was just fun dance music, and I'd rather have it topping the charts than trap and brostep.

Yeah, arena rock was really embarrassing

>topping the charts
>actually listens to radio
Lel

Rodney's British Disco in LA was a bumpin club that played British rock music.

When disco got popular and Rodney's wasn't playing disco, they lost alot of business and ultimately had to close down.

Also, disco is actually shitty.

>disco is actually shitty.

People who say this usually have an incredibly narrow understanding of what disco is

The Black Arabs were a pretty neat idea. 10 out of 10 Malcolm.

What's the best disco song ever?

Disco musicians were the Ariana Grandes and Selena Gomezes of their time. It's no wonder people disliked the genre so much.

Because they're literal plebs

this, pretty much

>tripfag
>uninformed opinion

What a surprise. Disco was a massive genre with many facets that ranged from the populist to the niche.

Rock With You but I'm probably saying that out of nostalgia

Where's your proof?

6/10
4/10
5/10

do yourself a favor and just filter without responding, they all vanish when they realize they're talking to themselves

Best disco album, coming through...

Because somebody could possibly have fun.

the "disco sucks" movement was culmination of racism (people burning records by black artists that weren't even disco), homophobia, economic recession and especially overexposure. pretty much everyone and every corporate entity cashed in on disco and made shitty novelty songs. it was everywhere.

there's a nearly endless amount of great disco records released from the early-mid 70s to the mid 80s and a lot of people deprive themselves of it for no good reason desu.

It should be noted that generic 70s folk rock saturated the radio far worse than disco.

because it's "gay"
>meaning their insecure and can't enjoy some melodies unless the music is super macho.

underground/club disco was a lot different than mainstream pop disco btw

Did someone say super macho youtube.com/watch?v=AO43p2Wqc08

I Feel Love

It's just shitty funk music.

If you can listen to funk why would you ever listen to disco?

Those disco artists actually had talent

GOAT of all time

Disco is one of the worst things to come out of the 1970s.

If there was any downside to the anti-disco movement, is that a lot of people confused disco with FUNK, and a lot of good funk bands broke up because of it.

Funk was/is pure, while disco was pre-manufactured pablum shoved down people's throats. The final straw for me was The Beatles' Stars on 45 record that came out, and the people who put that out didn't even have The Beatles' permission to ruin their songs like that. Funk lives, but disco SUCKS! Learn the difference!

kek

anything nile rodgers touched

Are you autistic, by chance?

Does your mother suck cock for meth or oxy?

a lot of disco was really good bruh

youtube.com/watch?v=vFLiz5JP6dc

epic. wish i was a teenager again. now talk about disco or fuck off back to your le wrong generation threads

the only correct answer

hip hop is black punk
synth pop is white disco

if you want to do that

this is better than any funk youtube.com/watch?v=GUvT-7-DJDQ

the instrumental and stylistic diversification of disco led to post-disco and experimental forms of disco developing, and it's really sad that it was sort of stifled by the backlash to the genre as a whole. although in reality "post-disco" just formed into hip-hop and house music.

Does anyone else remember when youtube classified everything as disco including like pigs by pink floyd.

Funny because Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 is actually disco.

Because the 70s was an awful decade full of homophobia and racism.
There was nothing wrong with music like this youtu.be/SsaFa-NHkFg?t=1m28s it was just extremely catchy, different and anti-rock and a lot of people saw it as a threat.

It was associated with gay culture

lol it had literally nothing to do with racism or homophobia.

quit pulling shit out of your ass, guys.

i wonder how many of those angry rockers in OP pic now have grandkids who look like this

>anything nile rodgers touched

so ur mum then.

Nile Rodgers was a better musician than anything those clowns liked

>this is pure and this is not
>he thinks music is objective
>he thinks there are superior and inferior genres

run like hell is literally disco too.

>ywn like a windrammer as you fuck

absolutely not

Money is almost disco too.

how about the latent homophobia and racism that anti-disco was a violent manifestation of?

>disco
>good

Please. its 100% disco.

youtube.com/watch?v=U13xOvDa19U

>muh rock

It's gay

>racism and homophobia

> non-Italian disco

im glad they protested

that shit is a crime

youtube.com/watch?v=355Fk8drgZE

You guys are a parody of yourselves.

I like how nobody's able to come up with musical reasons as to why disco was good.

...

that's a matter of taste
but you can't deny 'i feel love' changed everything forvever

sorry forgot to put "against" as the first word

>I like how nobody's able to come up with musical reasons as to why disco was good.

The basslines kick ass

youtube.com/watch?v=UdYwglFL6iM

>musical reasons

>mfw a pleb calls disco good near me
