good, crypto is actually useful

>yfw the cia niggers created buttcoin so people would stop looking for ayys

Shitty article.
Academic institutions shouldn't even be using gaymer tier GPUs anyway.

>t. retarded coiner cuck

it makes me feel like someone is baiting me to open BBC link

>Not getting workstation GPUs for professional work
Wut.

Crypto is useful for druggies.

>implying retard miners aren't buying workstation shit too because they don't know what the fuck they're doing

>bbc.com/news/technology-43056744
>technology
wrong board mate

wut

It also hinders Einstein@Home, Rosetta@Home, and several other projects but people love reading aliens even thought Seti@home is the worst possible project and seti as it stands is misguided and unjustifiable.

So is cash

Let's get the basics like money in order before searching for alien poon.
>Fiat and privately-owned central banks are fine.

>technology is in the url

>Power and GPUs are being used to allow anonymous financial transactions that circumvent (((banks)))
>versus being used to run fourier transforms on random noise

I'm trying to think how this situation could be better.

Or we could use the processing power to crunch data from the LHC, LIGO, and search for cures to diseases via Rosetta instead of using the power to create autismbux

Because the @home projects are more than random space noise. Seti is one of many that span particle detection and analysis, gravitational wave detection, and cancer drug and treatment simulations.. seti just happens to be the most vocal because who run seti@home tend to be the same autistics who immediately jumped into blockchain mining

Do aliens have cryptocurrency?

CERN fortunately has a good bunch of storage and processing power on its own. They don't really need it now, I think. I think it did help before LHC and the data center were built though.

Yeah I already participated in LIGO's work. Mission accomplished.
space.com/38471-gravitational-waves-neutron-star-crashes-discovery-explained.html

Ran just fine on my CPU by the way. Also ran on a GPU that can be had for $50 right now.

It has processing power but the @home project also incorporates data from other centres as well like FermiLab

PS: Here's a short article about their storage cluster. Note the growth rate and obvious funding behind this.
ceph.com/community/new-luminous-scalability/

Other boinc projects need you more now, I say.

GTFO disgusting junkie cocksucker.

Proof of work is cancer. It's like the paper clip making AI.

The point is not just to detect but also to identify. If I remember correctly the object was to search and find gravitational waves, after that continue processing data looking for more large or smaller events, with the goal being to find the WMAP equal for Gravitational Wave Astronomy.

As long as they don't mess with Hentai@Home is OK for me.

No the point was to falsify relativity. Now they have cool jobs doing cool shit and are trying to keep the grant money rolling. Meanwhile Einstein@home ran just fine on CPUs and GPUs from a decade ago.

It will happen eventually, but I think the internet might actually put up some resistance for the availability of waifus and chinese cartoon porn.

The point wasn’t to falsify relativity it was to test it for the search for gravitational radiation which GR predicted as an side effect, the project is now transitioning to look for smaller events the LIGO team cannot immediately identify due to the limited budget and power they have and limited window of observation

...

>GUYS, GPUS CAN BE USED FOR THINGS OTHER THAN GAMES
>LIKE MINING CRYPTOCURRENCIES, A TOTALLY PRODUCTIVE AND USEFUL TASK
>someone uses a GPU to do something that isn't mining cryptos or playing games
>WHY WERE THEY USING GAMING DEVICES TO DO THAT?

Well user, which one is it? Are GPUs useful for more than just gaming, or are you admitting that a graphics processor should only be used for playing games?

If there is a demand, increase the sell. Fuck off and stop blaming your life problems onto others that paid for their GPUs in full.

either way, it's a waste of money, so who cares?

But aliens don't even real, why would you donate your processing power into something that literally gives you nothing in return? At least with crypto you can buy drugs.

These searches for alien life are actually quite useful, even if they don't ever find aliens.

Quite a few pulsars have been discovered because of them.

Or you can use Einstein@Home and look for Pulsars, or a normal radio. SETI is a waste of resources.

Bitcucks will defend this.

I can't believe I wasted my gpu on crap like seti@home instead of bitcoin mining back in 2009

Why does hentai need distributed processing? Are they coming out with a hentai-drawing AI?

So I'm making money AND protecting the Earth from Alien invasion?

>winning

>muh crypto drugs meme
You can buy a lot of shit with crypto that's entirely legal. You can also screw the banks out of their SWIFT fees by transferring funds via crypto.

It's not about processing power but bandwidth and storage, basically a huge CDN, probably with more nodes than CloudFlare and Google combined just to deliver Hentai.

They why advertise it as a search for alien life? Seems pretty stupid to me.

Because using your resources to help search for aliens sounds cooler than to use them to search for quasars to your average person.

faggots
if we find extraterrestrial life we are doomed
